I never understand this. That's how it works, that's the real world. You could do a densely packed huge world but that's called "a city" if you want a whole geographic area and also hugeness and also realism we really don't cover the entire planet like couruscant, there's going to be huge swathes of nothing but fields, wilderness and ur mums vagina caverns. I thought that was the whole point of abstracting and compressing game worlds so you don't have to drive for 30 minutes to find something interesting.

Just make the map not-miami if you want that. Add in the traffic for realists to go "no not like that" I fucking give up.

>That's how it works, that's the real world.
It really sucks that video games can't take creative liberties.

The point I was making was about them seemingly repeating GTA V map with no innovations, which hopefully is wrong.
One of the biggest titles and they are playing it safe? that leaked may just looks way too close to GTA V, maybe because the shape of Florida is what it is so they kind of fucked themselves over by making SA the way they did.

The other point is that in GTA V map all the other towns are dead and borderline abandoned as some sort of funny social commentary.
Real Life LA has a bunch of satellite towns, but SA feels dead outside of the actual city.
Wilderness is fine and having remote wilderness is great, but the way GTAVs map was balanced was off.
Including even minor city on the other side of the map so you don't have to go back VC all the time would help the wilderness, not hurt it.

>>738523373
Because the content is spread out well and the pacing of the story has you tackle the map in parts so you compartmentalize them as such.
>Los Santos
>The Sticks
>San Fierro
>The desert
>Las Venturas
>>
>>738522209
Don't get why retards act like the wilderness is worthless. Do you never want flatland desert to experience the driving mechanics there? do you never want mountain roads to experience the driving there? It's an outright different game experience, just as it was in San Andreas, and leads to both gameplay AND tone variety.

>bro but why is the wilderness 2x bigger than the city
Because its emptiness is literally part of the fucking point. You can't have the experience of driving in flatlands or mountains, and how that impacts gameplay, without them being the size of the flatlands or mountains in question
>>
>>738523373
>Why does SA still feel massive to this day
because rockstar practiced black magic and the consequence wwas getting sued by the us government and Hillary Clinton.
That map size for a PS2 game is still ridiculous, its still bigger than GTA 4
>>
>>738522593
Fuck I hate the GTA V map so god damn much, it's about 80% wasted space where you never need to visit
>>
>>738522209
At least there will be proper varied wildlife in the wilderness on the levels of rdr2, gta 5 was fucking barren except for a random cheetah that insta killed you
>>
>>738523373
San Andreas content is all at the far corners from each other and there are effectively no direct routes from one city to other until you've nearly finished the game (at which point there is a fairly direct road from Los Santos to Las Venturas). Think about trying to get from Los Santos to San Fierro and how many twists and turns there are. You either drive through a snaking mountain road or take the long way around the bottom of the map. Travelling between San Fierro and Las Ventures is similar.

It was a very intentional design to keep areas distinct and seperated by making the actual journeys from A to B as indirect as possible.

V didn't need to be designed that way because it didn't have the limitations San Andreas had, which is why they did the opposite and literally made a super highway that circles the entire map so getting from A to B is always efficient
>>
>>738523645
what really kills gta 5 is that the map is stacked on top of each other so you can only really go up or down to visit other regions, 6 already looks better by having interesting places in all directions
>>
>>738523645
Absolutely genuinely hate people like you. Calling that waste space is possibly the stupidest shit I've ever seen. The entire section middle section is very specifically required to seperate the city from Sandy Shores, both geographically and for gameplay, and has a ton of interesting roads to drive on and cool unique architecture and world design like farm land, rivers, the Vinewood sign. The Chiliad Mountain State Wildneress is used for multiple missions. Why the fuck have you shown FORT ZANCUDO as being "wasted land"?

Fuck, man, you didn't even like Mount Chilliad?

But sure, we could have had like 5 more Los Santos streets instead of actual location variety if we got rid of the deserts and mountains, yeah
>>
>>738523763
True that, GTA V needed more big built up areas like Los Santos, if GTA IV looks remotely like what people will think then it'll be a huge improvement

It's going to be mainly vice city but Port Gellhorn will be a sizable city to the left of it. My main reasoning being that it will have its own dedicated police department as apart from GTAV which have county sheriffs for its smaller towns. That's how it more or less is in real life, the police serve cities
>>
>>738522037
something fucky is going on with the scale here. there are 2 airports and theyre sitting just 3 airport runway lengths apart from each other. that will look ridiculous
>>
>>738527693
If you're talking about the large stretch of road to the left of the map, that's not an airport that's a car race track. If you're talking about the one at the bottom on the islands, that's a military airbase

>>
>>738520884
Ridiculous. How can they charge $99.99 for this level of quality. Why, it should be worth $109.99! Gamers could hardly complain when this much game comes out at the low low price of $119.99! Think about how much value they're cramming in a game you only have to pay $129.99 for!
>>
>>738520630
The irony is, if the map were really that small, the game might (almost) have enough content to fill it out, such that it justifies its size. However, in reality, we all know it'll be an even bigger map than in absolute area than GTAV, and even more shallow than the previous sandless "sandboxes" R'tard Mumbai has barfed up.
>>
>>738527907
complex NPC simulation has never been R* thing. sure, there are some interesting interactions with the player, but if left to their own devices, they kind of just go about without any sense of purpose. The empty parts of the map exist to sell Shark Cards. You need to buy the faster vehicles to complete the GTA Online missions and outrun other players. If you don't buy, you die.
>>
Everyone talks about the land map, but I feel they could have created some crazy underwater areas. Coral reefs, sharks, octopuses, old ships with gold chests at the bottom of the sea, cartels using mini submarines to smuggle drugs, etc. And possibly some mini islands here and there you can go to and also dive nearby to find different fish species.

GTA6 will not flop, but if they fuck it up somehow it will spell disaster for their projects down the line

>>738528904
Look at the alleged leaked GTA VI map and compare it to the GTA V one.
Then compare it to the LC, VC, and SA from 3D era.
In 3D there is a different approach to each map, with VC arguably the weakest.

In the HD era compare IV to V.
It should have felt like IV + Wilderness, but did it?
It didn't feel like V was building upon IV but rather taking a side-step.
If that leaked map is true, and I hope not, then VI map design seems even more stagnant or best it is what they tried to achieve with V, 13 years late.

I think the windy roads help. Try to go from point A to point B, and you'll go through twists and turns, and it's the map is broken up forcing you to go around.

finished the game for the first time a year ago (was too dumb to pass the plane missions as a kid). the map still feels big because of how its layout is designed. routes are intricate and there is enough terrain blocking for your brain to assume there is much more around you. helps that there is a lot of variety so there is more information for you little dome to process.

Nta but GTA5 do waste the space, while at the same time it needed more empty wilderness.

I wouldn't say "you need a reason to visit every square meter!".
But you've got essentially nowhere to go that isn't in sight of something you've already visited (unless you add fog to hide it)
As another anon said, you basically only move up or down.
You don't travel to another city because there's only one.
The wilderness is essentially not used unless you chose to roam there yourself.
Many places are only used in online missions.

Airplane gameplay is just a bonus but you have little reason to take one for travel because it's faster to drive or take a chopper.
>>
