Is this the most journobait game ever?
>nobody ever heard of it, zero advertising
>’minimalistic’ gameplay
>story driven where the story is millennial nostalgiabait (speaking as a millennial)
>overly stylized visuals, that also betrays a lack of technological experience
>unanimous 10/10 reviews across all major outlets
You have to actually try to be retarded enough to think this is legit.
The only question is was it paid reviews or did the devs know what journos eat up?

I always have to laugh whenever millennials try to create these ‘punk rock’ characters with skateboards and skinny jeans, only for them to inevitably be revealed as coming from super-wealthy, crime-free, picturesque neighborhoods and loving two-parent households

The original reveal trailers were highly visible on Geoff's show and/or Xbox showcases, thougbeit.

I don't know why they didn't just make a movie. It wants to be a movie. It's basically a movie with minor interactive elements. If it was a movie, it would be extremely derivative but still pretty cool and would probably be mildly popular. As a game it's just garbage. Complete media mismatch.
And by the way, nothing screams "90s" like the shitty fucking low-frame animation style popularized in 2018

This is the best game i played since Chrono Trigger, i feel like i just started playing SNES for the first time with my brother that passed away years ago. The gameplay is the most revolutionary concept that it will change how we see game as a medium, every dialogue makes Tolkien obsolete. I've been crying everytime i hear the main menu theme, i brought this game 10 times already and i just changed my pronouns to She/her. Thank you /v/ , my buttcheeks will be forever yours in this mixtape

Can you finally make one thing clear for us? The LGBT tag on Steam. What "wokeness" and how much does the game have?
I can endure a fag or two. I don't mind skin colours either. Both things exist in real world, so they can exist in a game, unless it's 90% of characters. But does the game feel like typical progressive preaching or is it moderate and just tells a fucking story?

I feel weird.

I really shouldn't care about this game at all. It is not made for me, I do not need to play it, it is being made by a studio that I do not care about. They are not taking away resources from a game I love to put into something I don't. It is not live service. It really isn't bad for the industry.

Yet I have such a strong, adverse, negative reaction to it. Way more than AAA slop that I actually think is hurting the industry. There is just something about this pathetic wallowing in nostalgia that just infuriates me on some kind of fundamental level. Living in the past and replaying sepia toned flashbacks of things you never even experienced. I dunno. It's weird because I am old enough that the music should be 'nostalgic' for me, but I just look at this and feel a strong sense of embarrassment.

nta but you don't need to be forward with full on trans etc propaganda to be woke. The game has people that take on completely unisex roles. You can't distinguish between male and female by their behavior, and at times, like with the main character, even by their appearance. There is no division between genders, the girls try to act like boys, the boys aren't masculine, etc. It's a rewriting of 90s history because the real 90's had very clearly defined gender roles. Girls definitely behaved and dressed like girls, and boys behaved and dressed like boys. It's revisionism. It's not 90s at all.
>>
>>738524487

That’s 90% of media made in the past 15 years. We stopped looking forward and retreat endlessly into the better days of the past. Michael Jackson is the most popular movie theaters AND the most popular artist on streaming.

>There is just something about this pathetic wallowing in nostalgia that just infuriates me on some kind of fundamental level.
It never really feels sincere. It's like it's co-opted as an "aesthetic" or used for nostalgia bait. It's lazy.
>We stopped looking forward and retreat endlessly into the better days of the past. Michael Jackson is the most popular movie theaters AND the most popular artist on streaming.
It's like everyone just decided to collectively give up on innovating or having standards. The past was better than now by a large margin, but the answer to that is to make now better, not get stuck looking backwards. There's a kind of patheticness to it, and I say this as someone who almost exclusively engages with old media instead of the shit we have now.
It's kind of like a bread and circus thing. People allow themselves to be cattle being milked with endless, low effort nostalgia bait products. They'll grin from ear to ear as they're reminded of better times, but they won't admit that those times were better, or why. Instead they will tut and wave their fingers at you for even suggesting it, and then go right back to consuming nostalgia product with that same dumbfuck grin plastered on their face as they wallow in the consumer icons of their childhood.

>>738531375

I think there's something to be said that not every moment needs to be blended and commodified, or made into art.

And I think as an adult you are meant to find your teenage years embarassing but valuable, perhaps a little personal, but ultimately fleeting and done with.
The idea of revisiting it in art is just sort of pathetic, almost like an admission you can't grow up. Especially when it's just middle class first world problem stuff, it genuinely couldn't be less relevant.
I used to think wanky stories about people growing up as asylum seekers was cringe but like...there is some value there. This "remember the 90s" shit has literally nothing to say.

The thing is, the aesthetic still has some value and could be applied to some game with more complexity, but of course no, it's just some visual novel that plays itself.

>And I think as an adult you are meant to find your teenage years embarassing but valuable, perhaps a little personal, but ultimately fleeting and done with.
I get what you're saying, and obviously being too fixated on the past is not healthy, but I think it's silly to suggest that you are "meant" to feel something in particular about any stage of your life.
>>
>>738531375
It's because it's so cheap and psychologically manipulative. Namedropping old songs and pointing the camera at 90s objects like you're expected to stand up and clap for each one. Like holding a toy in front of a baby to get it to smile. You would have to be so developmentally stunted and repressed to be entertained by something like this that it just feels insulting, and the fact that it even exists, let alone is getting unanimous praise from the gaming press, feels dystopian. This is the level that they think you've been cheapened to. A permanent mental infant who smiles and claps when the bright colorful 90s toy pops up on screen.
>>

NTA but that's a fantastic way to put it
>>
>Look how BADASS and METAL the characters are they STEAL SHIT and REBEL AGAINST THEIR LOVING PARENTS don't you think they're awesome?
I don't mind characters being idiots and I don't mind romanticizing the punk rebel archetype, but it's weird how desperate the game is to present the characters as cool, without actually giving a reason to think they're cool
So far they seem to have no redeeming qualities, unless you count them being vaguely fond of each other. Is it like that the whole way through?

Just watched the trailer for this. The target audience is 100% for Netflix "people": Fans of strangers things or those series just about 2 gay/lesbian teens and their relationship is the whole premise of the show. Little to no gameplay was shown in the trailer I watched: just all the names of bands they got for their target audience to gawk at; make them think being gay and listening to old bands is a personality. Shit looks like it will play like Dustborn.
>>
>>738543008
>Shit looks like it will play like Dustborn
It's even worse than that. It barely plays at all. 99% of it is completely on rails, with you occasionally walking around a bedroom or doing a disconnected minigame. You don't even choose dialogue.
It's even less of a game than any other movie game or walking simulator that you can name.
>>
>>738543008
THE CHARACTERS ARE NOT EVEN GAY AND TALK ABOUT BOYS THEY WANT TO FUCK MY GOD
>>
>>738543289
>or doing a disconnected minigame
Sorry, I shouldn't call it a "minigame" since there's no interaction, method of scoring skill, or pass/fail state. It's just moments of slight interactivity like pouring a slushie or skipping a rock while everyone talks.

titanium court is a similar journo game actual gamers don't care for.
>>
This game is made by the former vocalist/guitarist of a band called The Galvatrons, whose music is throwback 80s music. So nostalgia bait appears to have been this guy's track record even before he started making games. Seems like another typical case of someone from another industry coming into games with no real understanding of the medium and using them as a vehicle to push whatever artistic "message" they want to push (in this case that message being cheap nostalgia).

'90s was the last bastion of everyone liking white people. '10s was the beginning of all the political movements that were anti-white and it coincided with the stomp clap hey era. It was also officially the death of rock as we know it. Coldplay, Imagine Dragons, The Black Keys etc. all being championed as "hard rock" on the radio but it was the beginning of the pussification of white music.

No, only in the sense that it was released on a gaming platform and purports to be one. It's really not one. It's a shitty movie with incredibly minor interactive elements. It's lacking interactivity even by the standard of movie games and walking simulators. You don't even choose dialogue.

I will remind you today how these "experts" spent hours in cuphead tutorial and gave crimson desert low scores because the controls were too hard to learn.

>>
>>738545680
>It's lacking interactivity even by the standard of movie games and walking simulators.
I thought the same from looking at footage. The closest thing would be David Cage games but those actually have branching narratives and are well-written. So where is the praise coming from?
>>
>>738545638
>By the way 1-3% of all users who buy games leave a Steam review.
Usually, but you're thinking of organic reviews. If a bunch of fake reviews have been purchased for a game with low sales, the review to purchase ratio can be significantly higher.
