Thoughts on "Emergent Gameplay", /v/?

okay

I forget, was that the term for low-effort sandbox shit where the devs basically say "Here, go make your own fun"?
>>
>>738526441
It's for low IQ retards amused by flashing lights and whistles.

Something like that, but it's like they give you so many tools to use. And it's up to you to decide what tool to use and when.
I had fun with Cyberpunk's version of emergent gameplay.

How many games are there with actual emergent gameplay?
>>
>>738526441
taking Bounty Hunter jobs way above my level in Star Wars Galaxies, then kiting the target all the way back to town so guards would kill him for me

Ah, I was thinking more so the whole Open World Survival Crafting genre where they give you a map, some enemies, maybe some building and skills, but no actual end goal outside of not dying. Then you're suppose to talk about the stuff that "might" happen out of sheer coincidence.

I feel like people give the term a bad connotation, because it was really showcased by BOTW. It was fun killing bokoboblins by rolling logs onto them, or launching them into the stratosphere with the physics engine.

It just got bland really fast, because BOTW was just a tech demo at the end of the day.

i don't know what the fuck that is
>>
emergent gameplay is when i click on /v/ - the video games and go argue in a thread about politics and cooking instead of playing games and/or talking about them
>>

Extremely hard to create

Does Hitman count?
>>

No, it's for where things can change from unexpected interactions in the game. One of the first examples was Far Cry 2 where taking out a check point could suddenly have patrol vehicles drive up and start attacking the player, while having an ammo box blow up and set grass on fire and just make the entire situation more chaotic. It's basically just a fancy way of saying, "Not scripted or set encounters."

I remember playing Farcry 3. I was scoping out an outpost, when a fucking tiger just wandered into it, and killed everyone in the camp. I got the cleared camp with ghost points too.
