How were you supposed to know that was over there?
>>
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/ps/562865-final-fantasy-vi/faqs
>>
You aren't naturallybut the difference between games then and now is that back in the day this was literally the only game you'd have for years so you had time and developers expected you to just try and everything
>>
>>738529563
Unironic real answer zoomzoom, by buying and using the Prima official strategy guide.
>>
>>738529563
why do nipponese games do this shit? you'd have to be completely autistic to find some of the "secret" areas that are in their rpgs
>>
Because that's something that FF games have had for multiple game up to that point, FFV even has a theif skill that can help you see hidden paths and the games introduce you to hidden paths naturally by showing you early on in the game a chest just right out of reach and I was able to figure this type of shit out playing these games blind.

Well
Yeah.
>>
>>738529563
You buy the Prima strategy guide, silly.
>>
>>738529563
If you've been playing video games since the NES, you've been trained to click on every spot and push onto every wall to find hidden and secret stuff.

Actually that isn't the full story because the text covers it
Here's another screenshot taken after as well to show something even more damning
There was actually a chest there already
If there's a chest there already why would you ever think that there's another one right under it?
How were you supposed to know that?

Old school games require you to check every nook and cranny.
>>
>>738530162
okay that's evil. what makes japanese developers do this
>>
>>738530218
But anon.. it's painted yellow..
Well, brownish. But not green.
>>
>>738530162

that's what you get for play JRPGs or as I call them GayRPGs
>>
>>738529563
By spending an additional $50 dollars on this bad boy.
>>
>>738530379
they expected you to put the treasure hunter character in your party who reveals where the chest is
>>
Secrets are cool, and there's no reason you should expect to find everything.
You won't get everything in life either so if that upsets you so much then just die I guess
>>
>>738529563
if you aren't smashing your interact button on anything and everything you aren't even playing the game
>>
you were supposed to stumble upon it after asking "hey why does this corridor go down here"

if every player finds every secret every playthrough they're not secrets, they're chores

>>738530428
brown is a hue of yellow
>>
>>738530615
Question for boomers how the fuck could you ever convince your parents to buy you shit like this when they already bought you the game?
>>
By being told by the strategy guide they sold separately.
>>
>>738529563
Now you realize, before guides, before gamefaqs, before internet, gaming was full of obsessed autist that will check every part of the game trying to find secrets.
>>
>>738530924
because each game and guide got passed around by a whole gaggle of kids
>>
>>738529563
>ribbon
Newsflash zoomoid.
You didn't beat the game.

>>738530924

Pixel hunting was just part of JRPGs back in the day
>>
>>738530379
To sell the official strategy guide of course.
>>
>>738531079
This guy gets it.
>>
I found it without a guide. You see, if you go all the way down left you can go one step farther down then you can if you go all the way down to the right. This indicates that there is something there.

Did anyone else in the whole fuckin thread find it on their own? I'm severely disappointed

/v/ would cry this is dishonest game making
>>
>>738529563
This was back when gamers were LESS (I said less) gay about this whole "I NEED 10000% COMPLETION I NEED EVERYTHING I NEED TO SEE EVERY PIECE OF DIALOGUE HEY SIRI HEY GOOGLE PULL UP FINAL FANTASY 20 FULL 100% WALKTHROUGH ON YOUTUBE" bullshit.

You could put obscure secrets in a game and like 0.5% of players would ever find it. Then they'd tell their friends who would never believe them, until they try it and see that it works. It created a fun and interesting atmosphere of gaming where mystery was well and truly alive. It is also important to note that something like a Ribbon is not necessary to beat the game. That is another thing, modern games are also obsessed with getting the strongest top tier best build ever and the best weapon and items and everything and if they are 99% efficient instead of 100% they cry. It is cool to learn that you missed the super secret strongest sword in the entire game after you beat it, because if you play the game later you have some cool goal and mystery to work towards. You didn't need it to beat the game so stop whining.
>>
>>738531174
It's still better than what we have today. Coin-eaters and guide-only secrets aren't anywhere near the level of actual scams and psychological manipulation that we see in the modern age.

I blame TES and Bethesda for this current mindset gay gamers have now

Fact, FF versus 13 was always designed to be a cuck story, Fact.
It's even in the name of the game versus 13 didn't desrve a real name because it's a cuck

>>
>>738529563
You're not supposed to get everything
FF since 4 was always balanced like that
>>
>>738531227
Very well said. Hit the nail on the head perfectly. I don't know when things changed but back then people used to accept that they don't get or even need everything but now they must and will even ruin entire quest lines by looking up a wiki to see which option gives the best reward then also cry if the rewards are divergent.
>>
I played ff8 and Edea casted death three times in a row in 20 seconds, this game is pretty hard
>>
>>738531474
>4
3, it had an absurd amount of secret buttons that open secret rooms with chests and shit
It was a wall-checking simulator
>>
>>738531646
Generally when that happens you reset fight to get a chance where RNG doesn't just straight up fuck you.
>>
I can't really remember but i think an NPC drops a hint about there being a secret on such-and-such floor. NPCs could have useful information if you just talked to ERROR
>>
>>738529563
by playing the previous 5 games that teach you about this

For me what's worst is missable stealables. If you don't have a guide there's literally no way you would know that :
A. You need to steal it from a certain enemy or boss
B. You'll never see that enemy or boss again
C. That was the only way to get that particular item
Yes you could spend your entire playthrough stealing everything but given the success rate and essentially taking one of your party members out of the equation for every fight it was an extremely tedious affair.
FFIX starting you with a thief class is particularly egregious for this.
>>
>>738532256
there are no missable stealables in 6
90% of them are just potions
the other 10% are random weapons you can buy in shops
>>
>>738532256
Stealables are supposed to be taken as bonuses, not collectables.
>>
>>738531268
IT'S NOT???
>>
>>738532256
now I'm paranoid. Which stealable is actually missable?
>>
>>738531079
this for real. i have some, both officials and unofficials

>not mashing confirm the entire playthrough to find secrets in any game
