Also, mine isn't even 512MB, and it's been running for almost 2 days.

Because we are NPCs and parrot whatever the Valve bots online are saying without applying an ounce of critical thinking.

>Opinion on loot boxes?
EA, Activision, Epic, Rockstar, etc. = BAD
Valve = GOOD

>Opinion on invasive DRM software?
Origin, Battle.net, UPlay, Rockstar Launcher, GOG, Bethesda Launcher, Riot Launcher = BAD
Steam = GOOD

>Opinion on software collecting telemetry and selling your data to third-parties
Everything that is not Steam = BAD
Steam = GOOD

>Opinion on controllers?
Microsoft, Playstation, Gamesir© = BAD
Steam controller = GOOD

>Opinion on game prices?
Epic Games AAA titles for $0 = BAD
Steam sale = GOOD

With these levels of brainwashing, I feel like Valve is on-par with the psychological operations departement of the CIA. Or Valve fans are just THAT dumb.

What should they use instead? There's nothing that can replace web UIs and that isn't a sidegrade at best. The only clear upgrade would be to build from scratch your entire UI that is capable of mimicking web layout and play videos inline and do fanciful animations, and that's just too much effort for too little gain.

That's funny because EGS also uses Chromium, the exact same thing Steam uses. So they're both RAM hogs of the same degree.

Both are bloated and neither is designed to be a webpage replacement. They're optimized for replacing program UIs, not for rendering long pages that are 20 screens tall.

I don't "know", but probably because you need to do some kind of account authentication to download and run games and access your account data and the like, and then do all kinds of secure transactions between payment providers and Steam if you want to buy games. None of this is exposed to developers so you'd have to hack and reverse engineer a ton of things to get even the basics of Steam to work.

Valve lets you conveniently trade your items and buy stuff from loot boxes, which most other companies do not.
Steam's DRM is considerably less invasive to pirate than the alternatives, are there even people shitting on Xbox controllers and shilling the Steam controllers? cause I haven't since any of them.
And Epic thinks giving free games is a good excuse not to add any of the other great features Steam has in regards to community tabs, refunds, etc.
The problem with the arguments of "But why do you think it's fine when Steam does it?" is that they either ignore the context behind Valve's implementation or their facts are completely made up. That's not to say they haven't done stupid shit, but their controversies are quite few and far away compared to any other game company.

ssaaaar you MADE the thread to kvetch about epic being shittier than steam
>>
>>738536325
>Quality control
EGS literally allows crypto shovelware on their store because Steam doesn't. That is the literal opposite of quality control.
>>
>>738536325
saaaaar epic's only purpose is to provide free games to add to steam's non-steam game library
and pay you to cry about it
>>
>>738532816
Would you take the chance the sun doesn't rise or whatever
>>
>>738537062
People would rather buy games on Steam when they're free on Epic.
>>
>>738537101
well yeah, if you have money.
epic's launcher is a nasty piece of spyware that was snooping into your folders and uploading shit to their servers openly.
specifically your STEAM files.
epic calls that "outdated implementation"
which just means they found another way to do that.

They implemented refunds after some European court case ruled out they had to. They never did it because "we are sooo pro-consumer guys... just trust us". I'm fairly certain many other things were forced upon them by legislators, and were NOT implemented out of altruistic reasons.

Nigg what? Timmy proudly opened his arms up for cryptoscam garbage because Gaben told that shit to fuck off.
>No gay ass Facebook social features
More like barely any features at all.
>Nice and simple
Yeah, it's "simple" alright. Do I really need to remind you Timmy needed a long ass time to add a shopping cart, a feature you will find on every indian web browser store?

no one told them to do it outside of australia
reminder that sony and nintendo still don't offer refunds the way valve does

I literally have hundreds of games on steam, console loser. Even japanese games get pretty solid PC ports now and PC gaming used to be considered a joke by japanese. Hell, I can't believe how spoiled PC chads are with fighting games alone now. Back then there were only some crappy attempts to make a fighting game for DOS and then in the 2000's it was completely barren, if you wanted to play fighting vidya on PC you had to emulate and even then emulation still had to improve in some aspects. Meanwhile now there's fighting vidya getting native PC versions all the time.

They still use embedded Chromium regardless of whether they also use UE. If they ran embedded Chromium in UE, that'd just make it worse.

>>Quality control
Nice try shill, EGS is still desperate to look like they can have as many games as Steam.
If they cared about quality they've would have started by not bribing developers for paid exclusivities, treating the fans like they are sheep that need to be herded, and instead spend that money on good store feature.
As I see it the best feature of STEAM is the tag system for games, reliable or not that's far better than suggesting game because of popularity or price as if genre/content didn't matter.
>>No gay ass Facebook social features
You are not forced to use them and a basic forum/news system is very useful to get information from devs on a single place.
>>Nice and simple
More like shit and simple, those who brag about being simple are usually either forcing you into a rigid template to control you, or incapable of doing complex and efficient.
>>
>>738530050
outdated bait. 4GB is fucking nothing these days.

Why aren't we talking about the fact that Steam requires a 64-bit CPU, and nobody but the richest of the rich has them? What about all us normal people in Tanzania with Pentium 4s running Windows XP?
>>
>>738532687
If you read an anthropology book instead of epic Save EVROPA instagram posts by indians you'd realize life isn't so black and white.

Steam doesn't just require 64 bit CPU, it requires more than that. In fact, here's a helpful list of what it requires.

>A webstore needs more 2GB of RAM and a quad core processor because...
>because it just needs it ok?
>>
>>738541190
Why complain? It's practically nothing.
>>
>>738541724
Because why should software that had the exact same functionality since 1990 use more resources for no reason? I don't care that modern PCs come with 128GB of RAM. a webstore shouldn't use more than a megabyte or two of RAM ideally, worst case scenario maybe 20MB of RAM. it's just drawing a UI for fucks sake.
>>
>>738541873
you're retarded
>>
>>738542120
And you're a mindless bot. good counter-argument!
>>
>>738541873
Considering Steam has only been around since 2003, how does it have the same functionality since 1990?
>>
I'm terrified they'll announce that damn Half-Life 3 someday, and I can see how the damn Switch is going to outsell the PlayStation 2.

Could you please give me some tips on how to be a gamer on Android smartphones and tablets.

Basically, I want Android games that give me the impression that I hate PC gaming and Nintendo consoles.
>>
>>738542226
The same *CORE* functionality. that is, drawing a UI. and maybe downloading something in the background.
you retards can't be serious. literal bot hivemind.
entire game engines used far less resources than chromium.
>>
>>738542329
So how many applications from 1990 were downloading in the background or drawing on a compositor? How many were facilitating purchases over the internet and downloading over same? How many of these applications allowed you to keep track of what games your friends were playing, and allowed you to share those games with family?
>>
>>738542563
Yes yes, and that is such a titanic task that it requires gigabytes of RAM!

Should curl also use 500MB of RAM? I mean it has a basic text interface and it's downloading something.

ok nvm, I'm talking to a retard.
I'll write a webstore that uses 20GB of RAM and you'll use it like the good cattle you are.

No, people don't want to use non-Steam stores because they're for goyim. Don't be a goy.

>Athlon 64 3200+
Didn't that CPU have like 3 socket versions or something? I had a socket 754 version of the 3200+ that I built in preparation for half-life 2 and world of warcraft. Awful time to built a new pc in retrospect. Less than two years later we got DDR2, PCI-E and dual-core processors. Wild to think that the first CPU that I used for Steam no longer supports it. I'm guessing yours is AM2 judging by the GPU.
>>
>>738530050
I have 128gb of ram
Why should I care again?
>>
>>738543142
It's not 1 CPU. There are literally more than 5 different CPUs called Athlon 64 3200+.
Mine is Venice, socket 939. The GPU used has little to do with the original system as built, it's just some random GPU I had sitting around which still worked. I didn't feel like putting a GTX 980 into that computer. Even though I could have.
>>
>>738531183
People don't like loot boxes period retard
You said invasive drm software then list launchers? RETARD
You can pretty much opt out of everything on steam
People don't think those controllers are bad? RETARD
I don't care about prices I'm not a poorjeet like you. RETARD
>>
>>738530050
800mb for me
ddr4 costs about $6 per gb
steam takes up about $5 of your memory at the very worst if you somehow managed to fill it up
a non issue
