I miss being 11 years-old when the 3DS released and this was one of the first games I got with the system. It was a neat time when their brand new, handheld console was being used to port N64 games as Ocarina of Time 3D came out shortly after.
Is it as good as I remember? I thought it was fun, and it was my first Star Fox game, and I feel like it plays better than the N64 game as I keep getting filtered when I play the original
>>
>OP was 11-12 when Windows 8 came out

Star Fox 3D came out in 2011, which was 15 years ago. If they were 11 then, that means they are 25 now.

Star Fox 64 is best experienced on a TV, same with Ocarina of Time. 3DS ports are still good, though. Just now realizing too that if they remake OoT for Switch 2 too, it'll be the second time they remade those two games back to back.
>>
>>738538470
How many fucking times have they remade this game? Is it a world record?
>>
>>738538470
This version is good but I prefer playing on a film controller, even the n64 one. Maybe it's nostalgia but the graphics/art still looks great too
>>
>>738538470
How did you get filtered? Star Fox 64 is a pretty easy game.
>>
>>738540021
1 and a half. If you count the SNES game, play it right now and realize how wrong you are, or I am going to rape you.

>>
Welcome back 2011!
>>
>>738538470
idk why nintendo didn't port every game to the 3ds

3d is the only legimate reason to make a remaster. its a game changer
>>
>>738540021
4 technically since 64 is a remake of Star Fox on SNES.
Think it ties with FF4 now.
>>
>>738540062
I think it just controls a little weird on the N64, idk its hard to explain. Maybe its just the resolution of the N64 vs the 3DS, I feel like its harder for me to see the enemies and I keep getting hit by them. Maybe I have to play the game with a legit copy on a CRT monitor instead of emulating through Switch online
>>
>>738539889
>same with Ocarina of Time
thats not true. I hated oot when played it on my tv as a kid, but loved it on 3ds with the fixed gameplay
>>

>>
>>738540374
The gyro controls with the 3DS makes aiming way easier too. I can do the shooting gallery minigames no problem on 3DS, but playing the original is so stiff to get those fine adjustments
>>
>>738540349
You could also use the recomp.
>>
>>738540021
Star Fox SNES is the original
Then it got rebooted with Star Fox 64
Which got remastered with Star Fox 64 3D, reimagined with Star Fox Zero, and remade with Star Fox 2026

https://gameinformer.com/games/star_fox_zero/b/wii_u/archive/2016/03/03/star-fox-zero-has-been-drastically-overhauled-following-fan-criticism.aspx
>In June 2014, Miyamoto said of the game that were he to describe earlier installments as "sort of a movie series," the new Star Fox would be "something that's more like a TV series." But when I asked him during this interview how that's translated to Star Fox Zero, he told me this:
>"At the time of E3 2014, that was the direction," says Miyamoto. "Afterward, going back to work on the game in Kyoto, we got a lot of feedback from Star Fox fans and fans on the staff. And what we decided to do at that point was take the game more in the direction of Star Fox 64. So it will feel more like a longer form movie, and we did that because we wanted to try to complete the game in a way that will satisfy those longtime fans."
So what now? What's your next cope now that even Miyamoto said it?
>>
>>738540902
>youtubers
The fucking creator of the game, Miyamoto, called it that you dipshit
You didnt play SF Zero and each post makes it more apparent
>>
>>738541009
so it's star fox fans that we keep getting star fox remakes over and over?
>>
>>738540964
It's not a reimaging, it's essentially a remake
>>738541009
Sorry I didn't read every dev interview like a freak. Of course they wanted to make a game like 64 after the failure that was Adventure.
>>738541048
I did play Star Fox Zero, but I got bored by the time I got to the Ice Planet and never played it again. I even played the Wii U gamepad tech demo that the Slippy/ROB game whatever the fuck it was called
>>
>>738541206
>Star Fox Zero isnt like 64 shut up
>NO IT ISNT LIKE 64 SHUT UP YOU GOT THAT BY YOUTUBERS
>oh...Miyamoto said it was? Um...
>well whatever, Zero wasnt even that good I got bored with it who cares
What a loser kem
>>
>>738541308
He literally says in your quote that he wanted to "take the game more in the direction of Star Fox 64". As in an on-rails shooter using the already established lore and world instead of trying something different like StairFax Tempertures
>>
>>738541009
I remember being irked by that "TV series" comment.

Then he changed his mind mid-way in development and that's why the branching paths are half-assed in Zero. I could have forgiven that game if it was a good 64 reimagining, because it would make it the closest to 64-2.
>>
It's interesting to see someone grow up with a different version of the same game. Like an alternate reality. But the audio just sounds so inferior to the 64, it made me never want to touch it, even with the 3DS game drought.
>>
>>738543396
hacked your 3ds and mod the sound files to the n64 ones
>>
>>738543396
Weird, I never noticed the audio issues but can't say I was really "aware" of it. Did Ocarina have the same issue?
>>
>>738543396
yeah they fucked the ost hard on the 3ds version
>>
>>738543396
>you live in the timeline where someone played handheld versions of N64 games
Very grim. My first exposure to the console was with Mario 64 DS and Diddy Kong Racing DS. Are there other N64 games that got handheld ports besides OoT, MM, and Starfox 64?
>>
I would've been all over Zero if it came out in say 2013, but by 2016 nobody, I mean nobody wanted to use gyro/gamepad gimmicks.
>>
>>738538634
As I approach my 30s I realize how much posts like this are a cry of despair. Realizing that the future now belongs to a different generation is scary. I don't want to age
>>
>>738544389
Aiming is the one thing that gyro is incredibly good for. The 3DS zelda ports are a perfect example with the bow, I'd hardly call it a gimmick in that context
>>
>>738543802
And the voicework is worse. Nobody sounds better from everything I heard.

>>738543484
Honestly, I'm too charmed by 64's graphics to care about the visuals of 3D. I was thinking about the audio patch because I've been wanting to replay anyway, but I might as well keep the experience as fresh as possible if I get around to this remake.
>>
Any of you guys played Star Fox Command?
That game was decent, wasnt it?
>>
I really liked this version of the game, though I wish Grant Goodeve returned to voice Wolf. The original N64 voice lines will always be best, BUT I really liked TF2 Engineer's Wolf in Assault.
>>
>>738544805
too repetitive with the constant do a million barrel rolls into the ufo to kill it but I like it
It also cannot be emulated because of the controls or at least I couldnt figure it out

Okay why can't we move on from 64? Is going full Space Opera considered too Mature for Nintendo? Surely there are some old Gundamheads/MechaOtaku in Japan who would love to give their take on the series, right?!
Also why won't they give my d00d Wolf his deserved game? Seems like a no-brainer to me.
>>
>>738540021
the S2 is about to get the 5th incarnation of the same game
>>
>>738544906
They don't wanna deal with Krystal I guess. I mean they could just make a new game without her where Star Fox keeps their dudebro Top Gun dynamic, which they should do. That's what I wanted when a new Star Fox game was leaked in late March.
>>
>>738540021
This is the first remake SF64 ever got.
>>
>>738545051
Theres been two. 3DS and now Switch.

Although if you go by how many times they adapt the same story, this is the fifth time.

Why does Nintendo keep recycling Starfox 64 over and over again?
>>
>>738544906
I think Nintendo, and especially Miyamoto, is fully aware of the beast they unleashed when he made Krystal. And desperately wants to memoryhole her entire existence, which means rehashing the same exact story for over 30 years now. He knows he fucked up hard, but seriously refuses to admit he was wrong. So he is willing to sacrifice his baby if it means people will forget about his sins.

I'm an apologist for Command. Yes, the gameplay is a bit repetitive (Cuthbert admitted they should have put some traditional rail levels, shame), but
>brings back branching paths
>all the characters present+new ones
>many have their own ships you get to pilot in the campaign
>charming SNES-style "voices", plus themes for each pilot, even Leon.
>a happy Fox+Krystal ending, regardless of fanfiction writing

I don't expect the series to ever get these things again. So it was a decent way to end that timeline if Nintendo wants to bury it.

>>738543396
As in quality of the remastered music/sounds or quality of the ACTUAL sound? Because seeing clips of DS/3DS games don't do justice to how those games actually sound like out of the console.
>>
>>738545875
>Every ship is different
>replacement parts different
The mechanic for StarFox was the real legendary hero.
>>
>>738546294
Perhaps they have modularity.
>>
>>738544805
Things that are cool
>getting to use multiple ships with different stats and weapon systems
>getting to use multiple pilots at once, like you're a strategic genius coordinating your tacticool strike force
>moving to different parts of the strategy map actually affects the terrain you fly over inside the battle sequence

Things that are bad
>basically two mission types, fly over a featureless plain with no obstacles or touchscreen spin through rings
>arbitrary turn limit
>arbitrary fuel limit
>arbitrary fog of war on strategy map that comes back at the end of each turn
>can't select your characters/ships at will, it's entirely dependent on which dialogue trees you follow
>plot and characterization is rancid shit, all the more insulting for being the final game in 64's timeline

People say it's a successor or better version of 2, but Command is much more limited in scope and they play almost nothing alike besides both using a strategy map.
