I have 64gb of ddr5
I built a new computer like a month before the price hikes went nuts. Dodged a huge bullet.

I have 128gb of ddr6
I built a new computer like a month after the price hikes went nuts. Money has no meaning to me.

Even the rx580 is better than the gtx 1050ti. You could replace it with a 3060 12gb card and get better performance.

I do cause I play VaM
>>
>>738543262
higher specs don't mean anything anymore
tech has gotten so lazy and inefficient that it uses more resources for less performance

Literally all modern PCs have 32gb standard. Your mind and thought process is behind reality.

I have a 16gb ddr5 'gaming' pc.
>>
>>738545635
I know, I would, but it's a laptop. I move around a lot, so a desktop isn't feasible

Speaking of which, I bought a m5 macbook pro with 32gb of ram for when I need to be mobile... but I've found myself going back to my old i5-5257u 8gb macbook pro whenever I'm at home. It does the job and I'm more used to it. When I need more performance I can just rdp to my workstation.

For most people who don't play games or do work, I think 8gb of ram is enough.

>>738543262
damn, I thought I had 48 gb but I actually have 64 gb of ram.
almost tempted to sell off half of it with the way pricing is rn. Could maybe pay for part of my Steam Frame whenever I get around to buying it.

I went from 64 to 32gb when my little brother was building his first pc. Do NOT sell your ram, you will regret it.
... Regret might be too strong, but you will find yourself mildly annoyed every once in a while.

I got 64gb when I boughtened my new gaming PC in early 2025 because I saw all of this coming.

Stay mad, my prebuilt is better than 90% of /v/s PC.
>>
>>738550343
Don't downgrade. While not a lot uses 64GB it will make performance across your entire system smoother as a whole and when you do actually eventually get games getting to such ridiculous levels you'll be fine. The best you'll get for 32GB is like $250ish currently used if it's DDR5.

I wanted to ask you why stole my setup, but then I noticed the CPU.

My laptop has 32gbs of RAM. My PC has 64gbs but I am currently traveling for work. At least I can play most vidya on this thing, but it literally needs a cooling pad otherwise it can barely use youtube without overheating.

My 5800x3d is sitting in a launch day crosshair vi hero so i've certainly had my moneys worth. Hell that board even supports AM3+ mounting so when I bought the system I kept my old air cooler (silver arrow sb-e) which I used for years until I felt like dabbling with an AIO when I got the 5800x3d. This is a real ship of theseus build as the motherboard is the only part from when I went all-in on AM4 in 2017 but some of my storage drives are even older.
>>
Got 64GB of DDR4 last year when I finally splurged on upping my specs.
Boy oh boy did I lucked out. Now if I want to upgrade the last bit, a second hand i9-12900K is basically pennies compared to the rest of the market.
>>
>>738552304
Did you actually need 64gb or was it just for fun?

Based 10 year old Ram sticks anon.
>>
>>738543262
32 was fine two years ago, but 64 is the bare minimum now, with 128 being ideal.
>>
>>738543262
who is that guy?
>>
>>738553384
I noticed zero difference going from 16gb to 32gb on am4. Now there I'm going to AM5 I bought 16gb since prices are ridiculous still. Will buy another 16gb when prices return to what they used to be in 6-18 months.

What's wrong with Speccy? What alternative do you suggest?
>>
>>738553254
It was relatively cheap when I got it, like ~$160 and I thought "why not". 4x16GB, 2x dual channel, but it's stable. It's nice to not have to worry about running out of RAM when running AI workloads or opening two browsers at once.

>>738553542
I mentioned the i9-12900k. I'm on LGA 1700, B660, i5-12400. Paired with an RTX 3090 and I'd like to up the CPU at some point to close it off at few years old top end specs. I got it before AM5 was released and even then DDR4 was cheaper than DDR5, so that's why I'm on DDR4.

Bro people here are some of the most confident retards I've ever seen. They would fucking lose it if they knew my ram costed 800 bucks.
