I'm a massive autist for the original trilogy, I bought 4 on release and got filtered by Run It Bayou. Tried it again last year and when I got to grips with the difficulty I actually really enjoyed it. I don't think it's as good as the originals but if they cut N-Verted mode and all the non Crash/Coco characters (maybe replaced it with an extra world) it would be up there. If I ever replay it though I don't think I'd go for 106% again.

Crash 2 (PS1 version) is still the GOAT of all times. TFB knew this and Crash 4 is modeled after 2 for the most part. That said my personal favourite is Twinsanity. So Crash 4 does get into my top 3 of the Crash platformers.

I'm not OP but here's what I liked
>Actual difficulty (definitely some bullshit but not as much as people make out to be)
>Bosses were fun
>Levels are huge compared to the old games (this is positive and negative)
>Cortex actually feels competent for the first time since 2 instead of just being Uka Uka's bitch
>The mask powerups are actually interesting
>You can actually wear the biker outfit (this was something I've wanted since I was a kid playing Warped)
What I didn't like
>Bullshit hidden boxes (but you eventually get wise to where they'll be)
>I didn't like Dingodile, Tawna or Cortex's playstyle very much
>N-Verted mode is shameless padding

I wouldn't put it above the ND games but it's definitely better than WoC, for me the next ones would be Twinsanity and the 2 GBA platformers but I haven't played them in years so not sure how good they really are.

The best thing, plot wise, that they did was take Uka Uka out of the game early so Cortex and the other Mads really got a chance to shine.

Uka Uka just kinda sucks as a story element. He works in 3 because he was meant to be the big bad final boss of the trilogy, but every game after gave him and Cortex a CEO and office bitch relationship and it just got really boring.

Crash 4 had characters take the story about as seriously as they should.

After Warped there was this weird trend in early 00s where it became cool to just not care about shit. It led to scenes like this one where Uka Uka is treating global subjugation like a fucking middle management meeting.

Crash is a goofy game, yeah, but the characters still care about shit. Cortex is still trying to destroy the world and needs to be stopped. Crash 4 I think did a good job recapturing that, though they went a bit too far into maudlin with Tawna. The characters were goofy and funny, but there were SOME stakes.

This is probably supposed to inflammatory shitposting, but 4 was unironically more fun than Warped and every game past the PSX, the music was GOAT, and the character designs were soulful as fuck, way better than both N. Sane and TFB's own prior efforts on Reignited.

I can't agree that the music was great. Most tunes that weren't lifting or sampling Mancell's comopsitions were pretty unmemorable in my mind. The gameplay having dynamic music (a completely retarded decision) doesn't help either because the music blends as a cacophony of constantly changing melodies and none of them sticks.

It's just a mess. And the music is more atmospheric and part of the background rather than be on the forefront like on the PSX trilogy, which isn't necessarily a bad thing but the game doesn't lend itself to atmospheric music when it's so frantic and it's changing all the time.

That was my thought process, Crash was always "my thing". Not sure why I was so bothered because thinking back the only ones I'd actually "fully" competed (all plats) were 1-3 originals and WoC, I only fully completed CTR and Bash after 4 (and I feel like I cheated on CTR because I'm PAL and used Penta so I'm going to redo it on NTSC one day).

It's not official yet, but TfB has been working on a Microsoft project since going indie and some Linkedin Resumes mentioned Spyro 4 before getting edited.

Rumor has it TfB went to MS with three pitches when they went indie, Crash 5, Spyro 4, and Banjo Threeie. MS went for Spyro 4 since it aoparently had the most work done and could reuse some RIT and Crash 4 assets.

Threeie is interesting. MS didn't wanna greenlight it for ages, then when they were finally ready to greenlight it, Rare didn't wanna make it and MS didn't wanna force em. And Threeie had taken on such a mythical status by that point that no studio wanted the responsibility of making it until Toys For Bob apparently said "Heck, we'll do it."

Nah, from what i remember it is actually the opposite, you have MORE control over your jump, the issue is the hitboxes making you more liable to slide off platforms if you "barely" make a jump because shit is rounded and "tighter" instead of boxes with detection outside where the models are., which i think is why people find it "slippery".

It is also worth noting N.Sane Trilogy has the jumps in every game while the OGs all have their own quirks, which means that muscle memory from the OGs can fuck you up.

Crash 1 is where the jumps feel a little heavier, Crash 2 and 3 you not only feel but see that Crash's air time is slightly longer and higher jump, without counting the slide jump.
N. Sane trilogy has this too just like the OG, TfB didn't screw up on that detail from Crash 1 with the rest. as for hitboxes I can't say anything desu, I just felt them the way it always used to be, Crash 2 is just more demanding than 1 with the precision jumps on the earlier levels due of the slide jump mechanic being a thing and basically eagers you to use it.
