Would you recommend the game? All I know about it is the video review.
>>738557936Yes, especially on sale. The only requirement is to have a stomach strong enough to keep up with the batshit insane stuff that happens all the time, some nostalgia about the 90s pop culture, and to enjoy Turn Based games

At this point the game is worth playing if someone has only had the perspective of the game from a select few videos 5+ years ago. 1.5 offers them a new personal experience that they can't get from those videos. Which is something I think should be valued more these days.I feel like the new combat could be one of the more interesting things about it though with a bit more tuning and bosses being more complex that require strategy. 1 specific boss at the end felt like it gave a glimpse of how it can be better.Fuck that Persona calendar segment though with 1.5. Although I could be wrong, I remember people being able to level up multiple times in 1 day before 1.5 but now each level = 1 day which meant I got fucked because I didn't use all my xp I had gotten before the calendar started.
Never going to play this garbage but I love me a yiik thread

I played it for the first time when the I.V update dropped and I really think it's just okay. Combat went from horrific dogshit to just fine, little bit too easy to break too quickly and it never evolves. Story is still incomprehensible on anything but a thematic level (don't be a loser), voice acting is still a mistake and obviously hindered some things (I don't think they could get the guy who played Alex back?). Level design is still awful and even worse in the new content, its still really buggy too, although that's probably the most fun you can have with the actual 'game' part. Music and art was always great and remains so with most of the new stuff being really fun and memorable. I was kinda put off by what I assume to be a bunch of backer OCs in the latter half of the game but I guess that was probably a necessary concession to get this update made and sorta fed into the overall weird charm. Definitely a very cult title now with hyper specific appeal, I struggle to say they really 'fixed' it personally. I think they deserve their flowers for even trying however and it probably deserves a tepid cultural re-examination.

>>738559372You really aren't missing anything by not playing this game. It's still drowning in pretention, thematically and narratively unfocused and the gameplay still isn't that good. It's a worse LISA on pretty much every front. It's not as terrible as it was before but it's not good.

Did they fix the issue of the warioware minigames being the same from start to finish? Even something as simple as Paper Mario or Mother 3's interactive battle mechanics feel way better realized.
>>738568968They fixed it by changing the entire battle system, you use like cards now as upgrades, armor and attacks on top of the party's abilities. Still not great but better than 3 minigames forever

>>738554115How does this crappy game still get threads here? Literally the entire internet has forgotten that this game ever happened, most of them not even knowing it existed in the first place. Yet /v/ keeps making threads about it. I'm usually hate it when people call every thread a shill thread, but there's no way this is organic.
>>738580351First off, its not a crappy game. At least now its not. I played the IV version and I liked it. Second, its obnoxiously self-indulging millenial nature of Yiik paints a more honest picture of a 30+yo millenial who was raised by pop culture, than anything other millennial bait game out there.Third, it has really good music, and I like its schizophrenic cinematography. Finally, that comeback re-release is admirable. Its one thing to go back and fix a good game to make it better, but going back to fix a game that lots of e-celebs have assassinated its already mixed reputation by making 2hour long video essays damning it, its a very rare thing and Im glad that it happened. It really shows determination. Why cant you sourfags accept that some people like Yiik game?
>>738581497It's not that some people like the YIIK game. It's more that they get super defensive when they're told the game is still objectively shit (less so now than at release, but that's still the case) and just don't roll with the fact that liking some games that are garbage is perfectly normal and fine. I love Bullet Witch but I won't pretend it's deep or even that good. It's objectively bad but it's bad in a charming way. Likewise, there's nothing wrong with liking YIIK despite it being shit objectively. It's just the way things go mate. Don't get insulted for the sake of some game, especially one the dev left to die after realizing he was in over his head making it.
On the surface,
>>738581628The thing that makes Yiik enduring is that the people trying to say it’s “objectively shit” are typically just refusing to apply the level of critical thinking the game expects and the type of person who resonates with a story (partially) about online message boards is not going to have any issue taking the unpopular position and telling you you’re wrong
>>738581628For me original Yiik was like a 4/10 game, but Yiik IV is an 8/10. They couldnt (and cant) fix everything in this game, but the game really got benefited from that IV polishing and became decent. I guess some yiik fans get touchy because people keep telling them that Yiik is a dogshit game, which is objectively a lie in 2026. Its like the same case with shazamdoomers in cyberpunk but in a smaller scale. Yiik IV might not be everyone's cup of tea, but its a solid videogame and probably the most iconic millenial core game out there

YIIK before the gameplay update was one of the worst games I have ever played. It's a competently developed garbage game. The worst kind. It was so bad there was no debate that it was "so good it's bad" like 90% of Sonic or janky NES games. There's a reason no one talks about it except contrarian faggots like OP.Even if the update improved everything by 400%, 400% times zero is still zero.

>>738580351It's a fascinating game, even if it's terrible. It's preachy and pretentious, but not in an insincere way. YIIK is earnest, and the story behind its development reinforces that (auteur indie game, sibling passion project, Mother died partway through development). The game flopping after being hailed prior to release as an upcoming indie darling makes its case all the more interesting. I think the fascination with YIIK is akin to the fascination people have with lolcow autists like CWC, who are so uncouth yet earnest that it's hard not to find them strangely endearing. I think the game is mostly bad from what I've seen, but I can't help but appreciate parts of it similar to how one can appreciate outsider art.

>>738592341Yiik truly is a huge millennial circlejerk about the cringe side of millenials. Its a fitting image that depicts lots of soicuck millennials out there who think they are better than everyone else only because they were raised by the best of what pop culture had to offer and because they went to a pseudo intellectual college to get a degree that will never land them a job. They cant stop regurgitating the same condensating nostalgia tape over and over again to show that they are some highbrow intellectuals whose xitter views are important to this world. If they stop doing that, people will eventually find out that they are insecure bitches who use pop culture as a mental shield to protect their ego from this world's banality, and to hide the fact that these millennial people are some unpleasant individuals with a bland or zero personality irl

He also said that 4chan liked the game at the time of that interview and I have no idea if that's even true or not. >>738605548yes. for one, there is a whole historical perspective and level of influence that the odyssey has that yiik can not ever have. two, academics studying literature is far different from the average person on steam. if thats how you want your "art" to be perceived then of course its not gonna be a top seller on steam. its should be really obvious that not all art is the same in terms of purpose and audience.
>>738605947NTA but why shouldn't we expect someone to want to analyze a game when games like who's lila exists or mystery games exist. Hell people love to overanalyze yume Nikki too.

The Shenmue streams with Melo, Coast, and Post Elvis are insanely comfy, though. Putting the vods on in the background helped me get through a rough patch in my last year of uni back in 2024. Special guests popping up every so often, Melo's NTR rant, and the end-stream gambling sessions made them feel really cozy.

>>738597136Yeah and you never hear about missing hookers, regardless of their race, the demographic with the highest missing persons rate pretty much universally. It's not news because it happens all the time.
Why is random shit being labeled as milleanial.
>>738612497That's not a good thing either anon. Just because a white person is missing doesn't mean they should get news coverage is the main issue that is brought up regarding the missing white woman stuff.
>>738606362OF course it's nowhere near foundational ancient greek literature, but Yume Nikki has potential for actual academic analysis with how influential it was for indie game down the line.
>>738612572Because the author and the aesthetics of the work is?
>>738554115Yiik is unironically better than 90% of the games /v/ likes to suck off.
>>738613634Explain how and why right now.
>>738611816yiik is a dogshit worthless game and story
>>738614580YIIK honestly isn't that bad of a game. I've played worse RPGs that are actually well liked by the general public.
>>738614580Buy my fucking game
>>738614580Yeah that's what the youtuber said
>>738614468It's kino.
I'd rather play YIIK a million times before I ever play knuckle sandwich or Athenian Rhapsody.
>>738615940Knuckle Sandwich was such a fucking disappointment storywise, at least the music was good and the warioware combat was actually warioware instead of yiik 1.0's dogshit
>>738561380I think what this guy says is partially true. It's harder to stick to a game when the character you're controlling is an unlikeable asshole with zero redeeming qualities. I know the point is for the character to improve and change by the end but few will stick with that.
>>738616606The music was fine and I disliked the mini games. It felt way too bloated for my tastes.
WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?
>>738557236No whats happening is exactly what happened with the mask 2.People are Stockholm syndroming themselves into liking something that is objectively bad because of memes
>>738617907Nah, I genuinely enjoy YIIK it's a game that was made for me. I also enjoy kino like anthology of the killer.
>>738580351>I'm usually hate it when people call every thread a shill thread, but there's no way this is organic. You might just be retarded. You're right, it's incredibly niche and almost nobody has played it, meaning the only people that have and ever want to talk about it are probably almost entirely on this board. There's zero point in shilling a game like this and zero audience for it outside of the people who already played it. That means that it's one of the few threads that will have genuine discussion, no matter how shitty it is.
>>738618212This.YIIK is /v/core
>>738618130Did you really compare the kino that is anthology of the killer to YIIK
>>738618534They're both kino just in different ways.
>>738601710The American Wasteland stream is legitimately one of the funniest things I've ever watchedThe NightSky one is great too, mostly due to how unhinged it gets despite the game being played being the comfiest shit
YIIK really was a post modern RPG
