Anyone here old enough to remember Ace of Spades?Where did all the fanart go? I'm trying to find it but it's nowhere online apparently...This gif is all that's left, apparentlyPost more if you have it, thanks
bump for op
I've only got that gif and this here on my compute
>>738561138
I had a grsat time with it on /v/. Felt like real ww1 warfare with the organic formation of trenches and tunneling. Nothing's scratched that itch sinceI remember all the complaining that the devs ruined the game by listening to reddit, but the old ver servers hosted here were always fun for a while after

>>738562749Original game was a solo project by some guy on an ancient engineThe oldest versions people play had one weapon, the rifle. The rifle could kill from far away but didn't have a high rate of fire, and building creates a defender's advantage, so running straight at the enemy never worked. Combined with the buildable world, this spawned all kinds of cat-and-mouse games between forts, enemies trying to crack the forts, and defenders countering the enemy tacticsAs an example. You can try and hide the intel by burying it underground. Well, they can see it on the map, so you might build fake intel markers to throw them off. But someone on the other team can still dig to it. But you can dig the intel to the lowest level, then dig around it, and station guards like it's a killbox. But then the enemy can dig behind them, or above them and drop grenades. But that's defeated if you dig a canyon around where you buried the intel, which is a massive team project... but maybe the enemy shoots out the base of your intel tower and now it's a big pit. Well then you build a tower to hold the intel up, so they can't just run in and grab it. But that's too easy to break down so you need extra supports on the tower. Or multiple towers. Walls around the tower. Holes in the walls to catch sappers sneaking behind them. Collapsing the whole continent your enemy built all their walls on. Etc, etc...The original map generator usually put mountains on one side, lower land on the other, and waterways inbetween. Green spawned on one side and blue on the other. This organically led to the formation of team identities, where blue were typically diggers and used trenches and bunkers caved out of mountains, while the greens were builders making giga autism forts and spiderweb mazes. This all happened accidentally. The game got sold and the original game was effectively deleted and it became a generic shooter with blocks on shitty fixed maps copying other shooters. Died fast.
>>738562170Anti soul strat. Real greens build castles for their intel. Blues don't know what intel is.
>>738563907I miss my vietcong tunnel systems in the cliffs overlooking green base.
>>738563907one of the biggest sins the retail version did was give everyone explosives and the ability to easily destroy blockswhat made the game interesting was that it was not that easy to destroy something that was built, and wide-scale destruction also wasn't common unless a team spent effort to undermine an entire god damn mountainthere was something honestly amazing about a lategame map with all kinds of ruins and remnants of past battles being around, not to mention all the tunnels that were dug and then forgotten about
For me it's Hallway
I used to occasionally host a server on my dialup connection that filled up. It was always a blast until v0.54 or something, when they changed how the rifle worked.
>>738563907>>738564248Danke anons. I only saved >>738563004>>738560818 in a similar thread reminiscing about this game, a long time ago. Didn't get the full context except that it was a soulful build-shooter. Is there a classic version available to play? Also threads like this make me wonder if 4chan still retains the spirit Moot described, where it is all ephemeral and you had to be there. Archive sites cast that skepticism but then again many things like this game are lost to time. I wonder if any anons with the vast amount of files and knowledge will ever make a history of 4chan project. A tall order.
Is there a way to still play the original? I wouldn't mind hosting a few games

>>738560818It's a shame this game got fucking ruined by Jagex.
>>738560818I remember playing this back in the day, and I thought this game was much cooler when it was just the default gen map with nothing but the rifle and a silhouette for your sights. The custom maps could be cool, but a lot of servers just played absolute garbage like pinpoint or hallway.
>two of us tunneling a zigzag through a mountain> leave spiderholes for blue buddies to shoot through>create false hills to keep digging>almost on the green side>break a block>two green faces staring at me in the darkness of the tunnel>they were digging a tunnel too>blast them dead>block up our tunnel and create side tunnels from their tunnel to eacape and block those too>keep digging in enemy territory

Remember playing one of those nature like maps that had hills and mountains and fake water as the bottom ground, on green side one intel spawned on the middle of a V shaped valley and my brain instantly connected the dots you can right click and make a single line with all your blocks at once, so i did the unthinkable i made a giant hoover dam to hide and defend the intel, didn't took long before other greens caught on the idea and started building such abomination of like 4-5 floors with big walls the only real weakness was digging a hole from the mountain on the side or just running straight from the top of said mountain because we stopped at mountain top too, then we made a helipad for the intel too to make it harder to rush it, lmao.

>>738578079>Why did this place lose its sense of humor? Is it old age after all?Moot didn't stop /pol/ from becoming Stormfront back in 2016, and a combo of newfags inflooding from there, The Fappening, the increasing online ease of access in developing countries and via mobile phones, the conglomerization of internet websites into just a few massive ones that everyone's shoved into, and the development of large language model AIs, especially with a new generation that's not used to doing things themselves and instead asking the computer to do it for them.So as a result half the OC nowadays is AI-generated slop, the other half nostalgia from when things weren't as shit, and those same sets of websites turn into content farms and distribution centers where memes are regurgitated and transferred over, again and again and again.
>>738578749They're gonna get mad but you're right, 2016 is when things became soulless because a bunch of normalfag right wingers realised they could say nigger and faggot here without being banned and thought that's literally all they should post.

>>738579407Oldfags always said anything post 08' was extreme cancer but everyone who's actually been posting here that long knows that the site wasn't really that bad until 2016 and after. Post COVID is corpse desecration era./b/ is the main example, that board is absolutely fucked now but even all the way up until election tourist open season there used to be at least some quality posting. Even the porn posting has gone downhill with about 10 threads of 45 year old weirdos who don't know anything about 4chan culture posting pictures of 20 year old women they work with and jacking off up at any given time, only outflooded by logposting from the same guy who's been doing it for years.
>>738560818I discovered 4chan at age 12 and I'm 29 nowI use it far less but the site is an unusable wasteland and the majority of the userbase just comes here from reddit or twitter or whatever to post something racist and get it out of their system.Only us ancient faggots who discovered this site at an unfortunately young age still care to post anything of value here. >>738578538damn that's good art
>>738579407It did because culture largely stagnated and froze at about that time. We're still in an eternal 2016. Time has stopped, and is slowly degrading. I hear music on the radio and it's from the 80's, which was FORTY fucking years ago. Lockdown was six years ago, and little has changed since. We're not going anywhere anymore. We're just getting older.
>>738560818Guys i'm sorry to say this but i never heard about this game before this thread...
>>738561428>but the old ver servers hosted here were always fun for a while afterYeah, they died when the usual server host got kicked out of his mom's basement and couldnt host anymore (I'm not making this up), then the host that took over (Potato I think his name was) did it for a couple years holding down the Christmas Tradition, then he just vanished and ppl stopped making threads. Some newfag came in around covid, hosted a really laggy server on the wrong version, community got split, autists argued and in the end everyone ended up quitting over it. No-one's really made AoS threads since then or if they do, its at like 3am on a fucking Wednesday night or something on the wrong map/version.
>>738579556Literally me except 28.I often wonder if I am how I am due to major exposure to this site throughout my most important developmental years.Anyway there's basically no sense of community left on this site it feels, which is sad because I love making classic OC and posting it for people but no one ever appreciates it anymore and nothing propagates,>>738579680That is because you are a newfag, I'm sorry. But you can always be a based newfag instead of a retarded one.
>>738579541i admire logposter's tenacityI genuinely think /b/ is just a fed honeypot because most of it is blatantly revenge porn and I've read about multiple people IRL getting arrested for posting revenge porn to /b/.>>738578749Honestly a lot of the electionfags left, I think its possible to rebuild from the ashes but most of the people who care are too old and busy to do it. I myself post here like once a month at most just for old time's sake. It's ultimately not worth trying to rebuild 4chan, just doesn't exist in the same world and its reputation as the edgy racist website means we could be overtaken by the same flock of tourists at any moment.
>>738565608Original he means 0.54 or w/e the Main version was. Later versions are considered newfag shit.

>>738578749This. Also 2015~2023 was hit really hard by people stealing OC to monetize it on other sites, so most anons stopped posting. Shit was bad knowing that even a mildly interesting greentext story would end up on some faggot's "Best of 4chan #43" weekly Youtube compilation with patreon donation links attached.
>>738579737Admire isn't the term I'd use but it's certainly impressive how someone can be so dedicated to something so fucking stupid.>>738579787The fact that you don't understand the difference between a big server where everyone was playing together anonymously and why in that context making a big fat swastika in game would be at somewhat funny, versus someone just textposting all day about their dogshit politics in every single thread and it being 90% of their contribution to the board tells me everything I need to know you stupid faggot.
>>738560818I remember playing this with /v/ in 2012 when the whole mayan calendar thing was going on. Fun times.Blue > Green
>>738579830>Shit was bad knowing that even a mildly interesting greentext story would end up on some faggot's "Best of 4chan #43" weekly Youtube compilation with patreon donation links attached.I was thinking recently about the guy who originally posted the backrooms greentext and image on /x/ and how some 19 year old who just lifted that idea entirely to make it completely not scary and remove all intrigue by overexplaining everything and adding scribbly line monsters is now set for life and will be worshipped by zoomer culture as a seminal director.Imagine how that feels. God.
>>738579787idk in 2012 I was 15 so maybe I was too young but all of the racism and swatstikas and shit felt much more ironic. Like we'd draw swatstikas because it was edgy and offensive but there wouldn't be people unironically arguing about the merits of Hitler, although I guess that kind of behavior attracts those people over time. /pol/ is such a loaded topic because its not like 4chan has ever not constantly said nigger but it just didn't really have a political leaning. Like we'd raid habbo as nigras and stand in swatstika formation while accusing the mods of being racist for banning us, literally all just for fun. If you search the archives from like 2008 there's people who attempt making political threads and they either get no replies or people saying "why make this in the video games board?" with genuine bewilderment. I'm scared after making some post some faggot will come in and be all like "look at all the WOKE GARBAGE you get when you DONT POST ABOUT POLITICS" but those kind of people are exactly why you cant gatekeep them out, we used to be able to gatekeep out of 4chan by flaming them if they didn't fit in, but people who waste time arguing about politics online get off on arguing and making people they disagree with angry. Not engaging also doesn't work since a lot of them are near borderline schizophrenic and would argue with a wall, or are just genuine actual propaganda bots and not even real humans posting.
>>738579972He said he doesnt really care about the IP. But he does want original credit.
>>738579995I didn't even realise he was a known quantity who was able to give his opinion on it so that's good at least. I just assumed as it was posted anonymously he would forever live with the knowledge he started all this yet could never prove it.

The internet's no longer just the silly place to have a good time, unfortunately.>>738579972I watched a YouTube video of an interview of that guy, allegedly. Basically, he said he's fine with it. >>738580090>Black AugustName goes hard.He sounds like quite a relaxed guy and that makes me feel a little better knowing he's not miserable about his work being appropriated and catapulting someone else to superstardom, definitely a more level headed person than I am because I would be forever malding. >>738580823I still don't understand why youtube has managed to avoid getting flak from anons for so long, that shit site is probably the biggest reason on why modern internet is a cesspool filled with insufferable retards, at the very least 4chan, reddit and even fucking twitter require reading and writing skills of a 3rd grader to properly engage with the platform, meanwhile youtube is what started the enshittification of everything, almost every retard on planet Earth started thiking of themselves as geniuses after waching to 4 hours of redpill videos and some TED scam talks, then Tiktok brainrot corrupted the younger generations and now even AI somehow finds and destroys what little intelligence we have left, we can't rebuild anything until the collective internet IQ stops lingering below double digits, which will never happen since smartphones has become a commodity>TLDR: retards ruined everything again and we were too late to notice it

I really liked how the weapon was just a bit unreliable so a 2v1 was extremely hard to win, but if you held a good position you might make it out alive. The gravity physics were also cool, you could destroy towers by mining away the foundation but it was hard since placing blocks is instant and people can repair your destruction faster than you could do it.
>>738579989Ironic racism is still racism, dude. >but I was saying nigger ironically>I'm not actually racist teeheeThis is why doing things "ironically" and post-irony and all that crap flops hard. You're still saying racist shit and doing racist shit, even if you pretend to do so otherwise. Irony is a cope, so you can run behind that when people call you out on things. >but we didnt mean to You still did. Imagine explaining that to people. "Oh we did pools closed but we dindu nuffin wrong we were young and dumb." Cope. It's like how ironically pretending to be retarded is a retarded thing to do, or how ironic shitposting is still shitposting. The fact is, you did the racism, you feel some sort of troll's remorse (or most likely are just performatively disowning the racism) and now you want to inflict your bitchmode on us. Fuck off, ya cunt. Fucking tired of the "I was just being racist ironically, it's a joke you see, I'm very funny" crap. It's all cope.
i remember ace of spades threads but the game never clicked for me, it seemed like more minecraft autism for kids who couldn't afford TF2.
>>738579989Also, no one buys the "I'm not actually racist anymore" crap either. So you can stop using that.
this game taught me why foxholes are so strong. I'm not sure if that's the name but when you have a trench with a wall that has a small opening in it, someone outside on the surface can't see you but you can see their whole body. It made shooting the blocks to destroy them a viable strategy, the machine gun was good for that.
>>738578749It really is a shame. I really have nowhere to go after so many years, I don't want to post on fucking twitter
imagine ace of spades meets factorioyou build a factory to protect your intel with automated defenses and facilities to produce vehicles or more advanced weaponry. and having to extend your railway networks and logistics lines to secure resources in order to produce more advanced weapons and machinessounds like a fun game, don't it?
>>738599048Are you even envisioning this as a multiplayer game anymore though? Imagine working with the average deuce when trying to make a functional factory.
>>738599048>sounds like a fun game, don't it?can be implemented in Minecraft with modshell, factorio is just standalone version of IC2/Buildcraft, so half thw work is already available
>>738599228you just have to cut down on some flexibility and simplify the process so that any unorganized group of idiots can setup a semi-competent resource chain.
>>738599048That would require a mandatory [arbitrary timelimit in which you can get a reasonable production going] because otherwise one team would just win by zerging ungabunga caveman style while the other team is busy trying to set up a production line. Or both teams would try to zerg each other.
>>738598683Well good thing you weren't alive in 2012.
>>738599359I love the inherent connection between block autism and factory autism. Factorio is standalone IC2 because it was made on the IC2 forums. Minecraft itself descends from Infiniminer, a work of Zach Barth, who went on to make factory autism into a whole ass genre.
