Remake is an ok-ish game. Rebirth shits itself tho. But both games can't even scratch the atmosphere of the OG.

I think part 1 is actually quite good, though it stretches on a bit and the side quests aren't great. Rebirth, however, ruins the story and doubles down on the above flaws, making them 10x worse. The first remake genuinely has soul, but you can feel it get sucked right out the longer rebirth runs and the more it delves into the story rewrite/sequel/kingdom hearts fuckery. The changes made to Rebirth's events especially take a lot away from the story.

Remake is a 7/10 for me. It has problems, but I understand why they did what the did. Rebirth is a 5/10, and it's one of the most bloated piles of shit I've ever played.

Yeah there's the time ghosts. every character is really low IQ. Cringey stilted dialogue that's 90% anime grunts. but you probably forgot about:

I love both and anyone who complains about the bloat is retarded since you can get through both games fairly quickly if you don't do side content. The added scenes/battles build on mostly established material already, and if you expected the time jannies to completely explained before the end you're dumb. Part 3 has a lot riding on it, but I have to believe they had the ending planned from the start so it'll all be explained. I'm playing through Rebirth myself right now, about 50 hours in, roughly in the last 1/3 of the game.

The open world is not actually as bloated as most other games, theres only a handful of each open world token (combat encounters, puzzle, ubisoft towers etc), in each region.

What feels bloated as you play is the fact that everything is that most everything has minigames. Some main story chapters are just minigames, Sidequests are just enemy encounters or sets of minigames, the open world interaction is just minigames. And the worst part is that some minigames have weapons as their highscore reward but I believe you can buy them later in a store, still feels bad to have to wait.


So I'd try to strike a balance of progressing the story and doing open world stuff. The minigames will be the thing that burns you out, combat is amazing and even better than in Remake. Skip the rewards if you're just not good at that minigame.

Rebirth is a lesson on "less is more". Everything you probably didn't like about remake is magnified and repeated. The open world adds nothing but travel time and padding, and in some areas it's a chore to navigate. Absolutely everything is padded and 100x longer than it was in the original, and much of this is meaningless chatter between the cast and comically strange railroading into minigames and other odd activities that always feel out of place. You get the sensation that the game is always cockblocking you from playing the game itself.

FF7R stagger doesn't do a jillion times more damage like it did in FF13. I have sometimes wished playing a game that it didn't have stagger at all, but here it's an interesting other thing to go for that you'll sometimes decide just isn't as important as dealing damage.

Ninostyle is better than what you deserve, fake FFVII fan. Anyone who actually played it back in the day prefers the retextured characters. And yet again, all NPCs on the overworld have the chibi textures complete anyway, which is what you're dealing with 75% of the time.
