My issue with this game is that the map designs are just ass, most maps and ALL the multiplayer maps are all designed the exact same way, they are CLUTTERED with resources, you start with 2+ towns and there's more towns just a turn or 2 away which is not even guarded. This also means that all the global extra movement speed spells are so strong as the entire game just resolves into just picking up all the million of resources laying around.
There's no resource management or any kind of more methodical thinking because there's so much shit laying around in the map.

Ok, you have unpolished campaign (which takes 15h tops?) And 20+ maps with 7 factions. 50% of buyers will probably play 1-2 scenarios, next 25% will at least do all faction playthrough and some campaign, which is probabably 30-40h tops. With only wisdom it's hard to get your spells to level 4.
You can usually get +1 level from Law, +1 from mage guild upgrade and the last level has to come from somewhere.
For PvP you want even more than that because there are ways to lower enemy magic level.

Upgrade fortifications to level 3 and invest in towers damage. The level 3 upgrade is not just for defense, but it also increases unit production!!
When the enemy attacks you should be in your city, behind the wall, snipping his archers.

Before this make or break fight, make sure to explore surrounding areas an unlock external creature dwellings.

AI starts with far more resources on higher difficulty.
Templates are shit, there are multiple towns next to each other, AI will rush unit production and it won't invest into economy because it doesn't need it.
It also knows where every pandora box is.
Make sure you have a plan for how to maximize unit production without going broke.
AI falls off hard after the initial bump.

I haven't played apocalyptic, so maybe I'm wrong, but grove seems rather strong in general, I like the hero who generates additional focus points, because that faction really benefits from them.
Hive is rought early on. I've tried the reaver hero to rely on the t5 units right from the get go and it kinda works, but not perfectly. I've tried relying on the upgraded t2 and their fist counterattack, but they're somewhat fragile and get fucked by early archers.
I always considered the scorpions to be too slow for me to really do much with them, but they are very powerful and tanky, so I wonder if it would make sense to focus entirely on them early on instead.

Hive should upgrade parasites immediately, or use locusts as their 1-stacks early on. Rushing the law that gives one focus charge at the start of battle, or a subskill that does the same is essential, as eggs let you split the enemy stacks, and once you get the subskill to let them tank an extra hit, they can start beating individual stacks.

Not really. I feel the good unit specialists are much better for Tournament mode. Getting 1 Speed and Initiative on your Minotaurs/Hydras/Grand Shoth is amazing, the low level shooter stacks benefit greatly from the extra attack/defense and the Heroic Strike/Avatar specialists have a much better unit retention rate. But the xp/stat specialists are never gonna be bad no matter what happens.

Today I learned the "Strong Connections" is amazing. It doesn't actually require you to spend focus, just using any skills counts. And it counts towers during defensive sieges as well, so you can get +3 to all stats every turn just from them. I'm level 14 and I ended the siege with like 30-35 in all stats

Yeah, nah. A properly levelled H5 dungeon could obliterate basically anything with empowered spells and elemental chains and all that stuff while rocking literally one t1 unit with its 2 turn invisibility. OE has some absurd buffs and debuffs, but I don't think the damaging spells come even anywhere near the unlimited fucking power that you had in H5.

I think that's less about patience and more of an ego issue. For most fighting games there's always a chance you can have a comeback even at 1 pixel of health.

As far as turns taking too long, you can always limit time per turns. There's also auto-resolve combat, but I personally wonder what's the point if you're barely even playing the game any more.

Oddly the skills don't have a equal chance to show up. From what I read some can have a chance 1%. Looks like the best way is to hope you roll one of the low chance ones early on and if not forget about it and pick just the best ones ignoring subclasses.

If you've been waiting on the older games and Olden Era seems interesting enough to get you to play, then sure. OE is still in Early Access, there are some missions and the template skirmish modes, but it's not a fully complete game for singleplayer. HoMM3 is a finished game, and the Complete Edition is trivially cheap on GoG. It often goes on sale, buy or pirate that instead of the HD remake that came out on steam a while back. That game (or 5 if you want 3D) has a complete campaigns for you to play.

This one is a mix of 3 and 5 with a lot of QoL features and more refined gameplay in a sense. But overall a worse game than both.
I would recommend playing 3 and 5 first. Then Olden era. But you could play OE as a standalone experience on the series and it would be fine. 1 is too dated. 2 is great. 4 is good but weird good. 3 is a masterpiece. 5 second best. 6 is undiluted diarrhea. 7 is a semi polished turd with some gold flakes inside it. Would not recommend 7 to anyone but I can assure a lot of people that completely dismissed it would find good things even great in it because I was one of those people.

It would be much better if Sardanapal decides to give Eeyore a hand-crafted zeppelin. A tracer shot would pierce the zeppelin and cause an explosion of the hydrogen inside. Sardanapal would miraculously survive the inferno, and escape the flaming wreck. The head would be then placed into the Grail, and a holy light would fill the cave, where a funeral of Culvertucas who died in a battle with Voltron was taking place. Surrounded by light, Owl would descend through a hole in the cave's ceiling, to give Eeyore a dragon's tail acquired in the lands of the Dark Overlord. The tail would fit Eeyore perfectly. At this precise moment, the triple eclipse would take places, and the donkey would transform into a first-born dragon Eeyoresha. Eeyoresha then would proceed to create a new world, making the Sun from the Holy Grail, and the Moon from the monkey's head. Owl would become the sky, and Winnie-the-Pooh would become the land. Sardanapal's ashes would make the wind of the new life. By the way, his name should be changed to Piglet.

there's another artifact that lets you use spells of the same magic school twice in a turn.
You can cast the skill 4 times on a fully charged bar, and then you can STILL have 2 casts of Energize, letting you use that incredibly powerful AoE damage skill 10 fucking times in a single turn. God damn, I have to try it out just for the lulz now.

I tried a temple run with the hero's strike specialist and idk, it was solid, but I certainly didn't feel like it was overpowered.
As far as I know the only ways to get more than 1 strike per round as you're suggesting is the leadership perks that gives you a 5% chance to refresh the strike after use per morale point, so 25% at maximum, so an average of 1 additional hit per 4 rounds. It's not that much.
And there's the perk that lets you strike again after killing an enemy stack once per round, but I prefer the perk that removes a counterattack from the hit enemy instead.
What else is there?

Idk how to make Stinger heroic strike viable, you dont take the free one because of the stance generating 1 focus point so you can take the CD refresh on ally unit dying and on killing enemy, possibly casting 3 in one turn.

Matchmaking is weird and I suspect a 180ms unstable nigga who regurarly spikes higher get thru the 200ms latency warning, resulting in games with the "wait for connection" constant flickers (which I leave, no remorse)

this thing is amazing for mana upkeep if you get it early, especially when spamming adventure map spells. can just web and farm neutrals again and again to constantly max out mana pool.

Isn't magic also better in short maps thanks to making it easier to take difficult fights earlier (Zenith with Twilight Blades, Motley with Twilight, Keiri with Umbral Grip, Zakron with Firewall if you get lucky with skill progression, etc)?
