Desmond? I heard your name once before, Desmond, a long time ago. And now it lingers in my mind like an image from an old dream. I do not know where you are, or by what means you can hear me. But I know you are listening. I have lived my life as best I could, not knowing its purpose, but drawn forward like a moth to a distant moon. And here, at last, I discover a strange truth. That I am only a conduit for a message that eludes my understanding. Who are we, who have been so blessed to share our stories like this? To speak across centuries? Maybe you will answer all the questions I have asked. Maybe you will be the one to make all this suffering worth something in the end.

Did they have to fuck over Altair like that? I know he was an asshole for most of 1, but he didn't deserve having his hot white wife murdered in front of him, told his son was executed thinking he was the one who ordered it, and left to die alone haunted by the apple's wisdom and everything he lost

Don't get me started on Black Flag. I have no idea how anyone likes Edward or praises the narrative of that game. The sage is an interesting concept, reversing what the animus does but is utterly wasted on the observatory nonsense. Since Desmond was killed off, the modern segments are a complete waste of time and serve no greater purpose other than Ubisoft devs to jerk themselves off over how meta they're being. For all the lamenting about Nassau's fall, all the pirates save Teach were shitty useless people you barely interact with, Mary especially since the game tries to pretend like you care about her. Adewale has no contact with the assassins yet can't keep their dick out of his mouth. Muh natives thought like Assassins bullshit. And Edward, after an entire game of not giving a fuck, sides with the assassins because he feels sad.

It's a joke. Edward is in the position to wipe out the templars so many damn times. The sheer amount of plot contrivance. You can practically be the sea king of the fucking indies and everyone treats you like a bitch. I've said it before and I'll say it again: the concept of someone like Edward getting involved in the conflict on his own side could've absolutely made this game. But you cannot tell me this man is Haytham's father and therefore Connor's grandfather.
>>
>>738575017
It was more because they had a trilogy to work with so they could flesh out characters. Now it's the exact opposite where you have 150+ hour long games and MAYBE dozen hours of actual story.
>>
>>738575306
They don't. People like it because it lets you be a pirate. People who enjoyed BF tend to care least for the overall AC stuff.

I think they had a similar idea for Bayek in Origins, but like you said the games are individually simply too big with too much side shit that needs attention to actually give proper stories the attention they need. Also, giving parts of it to Aya was a mistake.

It's alright, but they made a few boneheaded design changes that make the game much more frustrating to play. The timer for getting paid pauses when you do missions, and resets when you move to a new map, so 100% is a much greater slog than it was in Brotherhood.

The Turkish Assassins got btfo'd hard with the Templars attacking them from under their nose and Yusuf dead, and all their troubles started when Ezio came into the picture so I reckon they don't want him there any longer either. Ezio spent the whole game being played like a fiddle by everyone and he constantly complains about back pain so he's not in the best shape to do anything solo (canonically speaking ofc with the player in control you could just make him beat everyone up).
>>
I can't remember why Lucy betrayed Desmond, was it something like "it doesn't matter who wins if the sun fucks us all amd the Templars have a better chance of stopping it"? I honestly can't remember. the saddest part of the real world sections is that they purposefully butchered it to make more annualized games in the future and milk the franchise but then abandoned the real world shit anyways in future instalments making the butchering pointless. they couldve resolved the story properly as patrice desilets envisioned and then just done the "its a console now" bs anyways

Yeah true. I view it bit differently. He worked for his tribe for most of the game, but after his brother's betrayal + killing his father, he learnt how "real life" actually is and worked to stand on his own in a newly emerging world. It's not frontloaded like other two protag (and nothing wrong with that), like his nation, he was just stoic and adaptable.

>Mother, Father, I am sorry. I have failed you both. I made a promise to protect our people. I thought…I thought if I could stop the templars—if I could keep the Revolution free from their influence—that those I supported would do what was right. They did—I suppose—do what was right… What was right for them.

>As for you, Father: I thought I might unite us, that we would forget the past and forge a better future. In time I believed you could be made to see the world as I did; to understand…but it was just a dream. This too, I should have known. Were we not meant to live in peace, then? Is that it? Are we born to argue? To fight? So many voices, each demanding something else… It has been hard at times, but never harder than today to see all I worked for; perverted, discarded, forgotten! You would say I have described the whole of history, Father. Are you smiling, then? Hoping I might speak the words you long to hear? To validate you? To say that all along, you were right?

>I will not.

>Even now, faced as I am with the truth of your cold words, I refuse, because I believe things can still change. I may never succeed—the Assassin's may struggle another thousand years in vain—but we will not stop! Compromise. That is what everyone has insisted upon. And so I have learned it. But differently than most, I think… I realize now that it will take time; that the road ahead is long, and shrouded in darkness. It is a road that will not always take me where I wish to go, and I doubt I will live to see its end. But I will travel down it nonetheless. For at my side walks hope. In the face of all that insists I turn back, I carry on. This…

>This is my compromise

Bigger and more variety? Not really. The map doesn't have nearly as many iconic landmarks as Brotherhood, the main story has so much fluff, the Assassin tombs from AC2 and Brotherhood are gone (I think there's literally 1 of them and it's used as a story mission), there's no assassination contract side missions, in fact there's basically no side content at all. All it added was bomb crafting, which amounts to a gimmick

>>
>>738595012

>>
>>738593064
If anything, the problem with AC2’s assassinations is that they were too gimmicky. Probably the most egregious example is the carnival assassination where you have to win 3 carnival minigames to lure the target out, and then the actual kill itself is a forced hidden gun tutorial where you HAVE to use the gun.

2 has more than double the targets that 1 has, but what that leads to is a lot of them being underdeveloped and killed in a mission with no build up. I remember even as I kid that I was disappointed that 2 did away with the Bureaus and having to learn things about the target before going in for the kill. IMO, the way they should have done it is make the investigations their own unique side quests, but then keep the assassination and escape formula the same.

Apparently the original creator was planning on only making three games, and the last one was supposed to be set entirely in the present.
However, Ubishit decided to fire him and milk the franchise forever while making it increasingly shittier over time.

Holy fucking shit. NO.
They abso-FUCKING-lutely would NOT accept or tolerate islam in America. They'd know it is completely counter and destructive to our way of life. They made a White Christian nation for White Christians. Catholicism, Protestantism, etc would be allowed, but not shit like islam or buddism, etc.
These lies peddled by antiwhites are so tiresome

(You) refute why loathing fags is wrong.
They are well known to be disease chasing pieces of shit that sexually abuse kids. Keeping them out of society is 100% a good thing.
Same for keeping women out of power. Giving women rights rined the Greeks, the Romans, is killing modern society, etc.
Plus Shaun is completely ignoring how everything said of the Founding Fathers applies to every great British leader or writer, French, German, Russian, etc.
You don't just cast aside and demonize your forefathers because modern society is morally bankrupt and subversive as Hell.
You being an antiwhite shit heel is your own problem.

All of them, yes. Even Shadows currently has Abstergo making Skynet and letting it do what it wants even though they can see it's starting to get progressively more evil. Mirage was the only one that didn't really do anything because the intro is just following up on Valhalla's epilogue where Loki gave William his Isu blood so the Assassins now have an actual Isu sample they've been looking for since the Animus was created and a random Assassin wanted to view Basim's memories from the blood and William goes "Okay, just know he's got a messed up life". They cut an ending where a radar dish started up in the middle of the desert but that's about it.

AC threads are fairly regular, it's just ever since around Origins' release they've been more and more uncommon while dying way quicker than they used to. Some aren't even hitting like 100 posts anymore when 300ish was the norm. Shadows really didn't help since there's a whole four people outside of me who have even played it here in all the months that I've seen.

It would mess up our hospitals, food supply, factories, supply chain, and trade for decades but it's not like we don't have contingency plans for things and can't work around old systems.

Back in the 1800s we had something similar happen to a much less developed electrified grid, and while it did knock stuff out for several days and do obscene damage to the world's economy at the time (15% of the world's production affected) it wasn't catastrophic.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carrington_Event

Even if it's the AC-level solar flare where it literally kills people just because it happens I don't see why after a few years we couldn't replace the major affected electronics and work through the issues. Sure, we're more reliant on it now but the big boys outside of arguably Germany (Since they're more industry-focused nowadays) should be able to easily bounce back due to their domestic production of various goods necessary for daily life. Obviously we'll have to go back to shipping or something, but if the telegraphs still worked during the Carrington Event theoretically that niche community could still keep things working diplomacy-wise and getting things going.

The ending of valhalla implies they want to use time travel or something similar to stop desmond dying at the end of AC3 and instead just let the 2012 end of the world thing happen.
>>
>>738612219
>3>1

Come on now. 1 is in the top 3 at least for having the best story and atmosphere in the franchise and also being the most true to the “assassin” concept in a way that would be replicated until Unity and Mirage.
>>
>>738612032
>magic disguised as futuristic tech
That's what it should have been. Instead they were saying you were going to be using actual magic i.e. not PoEs by turning into a cat.

>>738612343
No it doesn't. It implies that they're going to get Desmond (As The Reader) a body like Juno got and they're going to figure out a way to save Layla while combing through Isu data and brainstorming in things they may have overlooked. Origins is the only one that implies some sort of butterfly effect or ability to change time but none of the games after it have remotely followed up on that thought process.
>>
>>738612386
In terms of story and atmosphere, and also visuals, yes. But the gameplay and overall design were still pretty rough.
>>
>>738612654
I think it’s aged better than people give it credit for. It’s a little jank by today’s standards, but it wasn’t for the time. I feel like if they remade it with Unity’s gameplay, it would be even better.

>That's what it should have been
not in the way they've been using it.
Remember in 1,2 through Revelations the pieces of eden were mysterious artifacts, that not everyone could wield, they were sparse and connected to real events and real figures.

then they started using them for anything and everything and we ended up having immortal fucks walking around. And then you end up with mythical beings, time travel, etc. and its all excused with bullshit like
>oh you cant believe a bit of magic in the lore? its just isu tech, dont worry about it.
>>
>>738612845
Pieces of Eden were always futuristic technology that looked like magic to everyone. The Shroud of Eden is just a fancy nanotech cloth fiber that uses Consus' digitized consciousness to diagnose your issues. The Apples of Eden are basically batteries that have some secondary functions. Altair literally used the one he got from Al Mualim to research how Adamant worked and applied it to his and his followers' Hidden Blades. The weapons like the Spears of Eden and Swords of Eden seemed more for ceremonial deals rather than in actual use because they clearly had guns in their time period. Even in AC3 you directly see that the Isu just live in basically giant skyscraper-laden cities meaning they were just more technologically advanced than we currently are.

They only started using it to actually justify magic in Origins onward with Origins making it so that mass group think in the Egyptian religion allowed Curse of the Pharaohs to happen, Odyssey made it so that the Apples projected a threat to the person perceiving it to keep them away from Isu Vaults and it was basically just an amalgamation of bodies being used to physically provide the mass for the Apple to keep them away. Valhalla's Isu content is all a drug binge by Eivor except for the one temple which just has platforming challenges to power up an AI and Yggdrasil which itself is just a computer. Mirage had no magical content outside of implying The Old Ones are real in-universe. Shadows directly showed you Yokai are real but that's about it.

see how that is just a bunch of mumbo jumbo? thats the problem
>>
>>738613636
Yes, and prior to that no one took issue with them being futuristic technology that looked like magic. Tyranny of King Washington is Connor and Washington literally having a group hallucination brought about by the Apple they were holding.

They even used the saying that "If you brought a man in the Middle Ages something from today he'd think you were wielding magic" as the basis for Pieces of Eden. Even as far back as either 2 or Brotherhood you have the database entries talking about these things as if they're technology, not magic.

I know they were always technology. but its how they were portrayed and how they were used in the narrative
You maybe got to see a piece of eden like once or twice in the game. You get to use them once in brotherhood and once in revelations.
They were a mystery. The other pieces being woven into historical figures like the staff of moses etc.
That was great about it, it was mysterious and rare.

now its just boring
>>
>>738614029
It was always going to be this way simply because of how frequently they appeared in history. Napoleon himself wielded an Apple so of course you'd see it in Unity. The Shroud was only found pretty much right at the end of Syndicate. The Apple was found early on in Origins and then nothing was done with it until literally like an hour or two before the end of the game when Bayek realized what that room in Siwa was for. We constantly see Isu temples in basically every game or parts of them outside of AC1. Sure, nowadays we're seeing bigger Isu temples but the only real thing that changed between Syndicate back and Origins forward is how they utilize the PoEs to justify stuff. Prior to that they were still used fairly heavily. I mean hell, the entire Chronicles storyline exists to explain what the Box did and even contradicts Rogue despite needing it to be Shay's box for the ending to make any sense.
>>
>>738612032
That is precisely one of the newest developments I am the most glad about. When the first reports about the game came out it leaned way too much into science fiction (like for example having the main character using an Isu artifact to transform or control a cat), idea that I despise. I really hope they show the time period in a historically accurate way through Elsa, the main character.

AC Unity came out before Primal. They were already deep in the slop, nigga. Not even counting games like Splinter Cell Conviction or that they were already being criticized for making AC an annual franchise with Brotherhood and Revelations years before. It was just that Ubisoft for the longest time at least still had an art team that gave a fuck no matter how much you hated the rest of the company.
