Yall niggas turn on HGIG for your games?

Why am I just finding out about this now??

The colors bro holy shit!?

How long has this been a thing???
>>
i do on my oled tv that i use for a monitor
>>
when are we getting a good hdr oled monitor?
don't care about refresh rate, just want good colors
>>

>>738575696
>>738575740
Reminder that there are retards who think HDR is causing better colors and not just the color gamut range of the display.
>>
i'm not a hgigger
>>
>>738575740
Asus PG32UCDM3 that recently came out is probably the peak of oled monitors currently and everything after will just be diminishing returns for the next 5 years.
>>
>>738575782
maybe if you're watching/playing sdr content with hdr turned on for some retarded reason
>>
>>738575848
>1k usd
damn, that's harsh. I was looking for something with 60hz but i can probably swing this
thanks for the rec anon
>>
>>738575909
You don't need HDR to get better colors. Depending on the display you can change it from REC709, to DCI-P3, to BT.2020, or even adobe RGB and Native.
>>
>>738575968
what monitor lets you used hdr colour space for sdr lol
>>
>>738575424
This shit is barely supported and already made obsolete by RenoDX + a properly calibrated monitor
>>
>>738576063
Projector. Wait, you're not playing PC games on a 120" 4k screen?
>>
>>738575424
higug?
>>
>>738575910
That may be the older version, the newer gen 3 model is 1.3k last I checked. And the is the one that you want for the higher brightness and the better screen coating that lessens the purple tint from qd oled.
>>
>>738576063
Literally any high gamut screen should display high gamut range for any content. It's not like HDR magically unlocks some hidden shit. HDR is basically for highlights. Any "improved color" is mostly a placebo except when it comes to shades of color at different levels of brightness and darkness, which by itself is not really noticable unless you're watching something Dolby Vision.
>>
>>738576142
Just checked, it's on sale for 1.1k. May snag it.

Why not just get a TV if you're gonna drop that much money on a fucking monitor? Lmao.

it's not just about the colours but also the range of brightness, in sdr everything kind of just blends together in bright areas.

Only real giggers know bout this mode.
>>
>>738575968
It depends on the content you watch. The reality is Video Games can do HDR but the main problem is it's not always perfect and it's shaky at times where you need to turn RTX HDR On because games like FFXV, AC6 are not done that well for it. For Anime REC709 and P3 100% is common. As for BT.2020(aka Rec2020) or true HDR it's not at all. Japan will most likely be in HDR mode by 2040 at best. For Video Games next generation should be entirely possible as the standards become easier.
>>
>>738575848
It depends on what you are looking for. If you like Cinematic Games, Movies, and darker colors OLED is awesome, but if you are looking for highly saturated colors and sustained brightness during scenes Mini-OLED is great.
>>
>>738576561
That's only if the game is poorly designed which is almost every modern game. Also the fact that you need an OLED to get the best effect and the fact that HDR has like 8 different formats means it's not a very good gimmick.

>>738577416
I think everything will eventually have HDR but it will be a very slow process. Even the Switch 2 screen does HDR through a high gamut LCD.

>>738577498
Movies look much better on a projector than an OLED. Tho modern movies with a their terrible dark lighting that's made for Netflix slop do benefit form OLED unless you're streaming low bitrate content.
>>
>>738577805
I think you are not wrong if you like Projectors, Projectors are very fun if you love the movie experience at the theaters.

Also I do agree with you though that eventually we will get HDR with a majority of games with Switch 2 now supporting it. Video Games will be first followed by Movies, but Anime will be a long long long time. Unfortunately in Japan they tried HDR and a lot of people hated it. So it will most likely be early 2030's or late 2030's(most likely).
>>
>>738575782
Hey dumbass, if the creator of the content uses HDR range colors for their content then you will see more colors with HDR enabled
>>
>>738577021
that causes scenes to be way too bright and dim objects to shine. You're supposed to use basic HGiG and static tone mapping with advanced contrast enhancer off. You can test it in cyberpunk as normal advertisement boards (from far away) start shining at 1000+ nits when they really should be at paper white.
>>
>>738578062
You see more shades of bright and dark colors by luminance of HDR, but it doesn't actually make more colors. It's literally "how do we make red, green, and blue look better when we mix grey?".

HDR is also fake and gay, especially for films which just ends up ruining a lot of detail for most movies.
>>
>>738575424
I don't play modern shit usually, so the only times I ever ran into ever using them was Fantasy Life i and SH2 remake
It can look nice though if they include really good customization settings for it.
>>
>>738581017
>HDR only looks good when you fine tune it for every single game
>Same for movies, you gotta fuck with the settings or else it's too bright or too dull

HDR will always be a meme.
>>
>devs have access to incredible amounts of the visible spectrum with HDR gamuts
>"lmao lets just use srgb and let parts of the screen get brighter"
>>
>>738582803
>Incredible access
>Literally just mostly green
>>
>>738584179
Yes that is what people see the most of.

>>738584179
That's correct, it's what we can detect best.
>>
>>738586386
Even if we don't push all the way out to prophoto rgb i'd like to see games reach as far as pointer's gamut.

TFTCentral is a great resource for a lot of display related articles that help educate people and anyone reading this should give them a look. This article is also particularly insightful;
