It would not have taken very much effort, let alone time, to throw together a Half Life: Alyx version of GMod with all of Source 2's new bells and whistles, probably would have taken a few months, and we would have already been playing that for 5 or so years by now, seeing a new era of source engine content, addons, gamemodes, machinima, all that fun stuff that you really need an approachable platform and open community for.
but because Garry is a tone-deaf dunning-kruger wannabe auter, we got none of that. We got worse than none of that. This shit isn't just embarassing, its a fucking insult to anybody who ever enjoyed GMod and gave Garry the benefit of the doubt. I wanted to believe that the changes to the engine were going to make s&box a genuine powerhouse, and that it was only taking so long because they were really doing their best to refine it, but I suppose not. This shit is out of a 5 year closed beta, and its still broken, barebones, and being treated like its "early days". No. Fuck you Garry. There is ZERO excuse for this shit. You fucking robbed us.

Perhaps it would have been better for Garry to have created an original game using these sausage characters, featuring various minigames from all sorts of existing games, and then give people the option to alter, remove, customize, and expand it in their own way, creating an original and independent game. That way, the $20 price tag would be justified, as it's not a sandbox game, but a complete original game with sandbox elements.

The scrimblos this game has are just so fucking ugly. Not even in a funny, charming way, they are visually unappealing. Really odd choice considering cosmetics are apparently front and center in this, but why would someone even buy cosmetics for such ugly abominations, unless they think they can make a profit from them?

Ultrakill literally has gm_construct where you can build whatever levels and play with stuff, but it's still an FPS with an optional sandbox mode. Teardown is a game about preparing and executing robberies or vandalism within limited time, with an optional sandbox mode where you can play with mods and stuff.
