Why does Doom modding persist and even manage to attract new fans while using Quake or even the Build Engine (both of which are more advanced) is far more niche?
>>
Because quake and build engine games are way worsely designed and people enjoying making wads within the well designed restrictions of doom. The mods, such as those in your pic, are just an extremely unfortunate side effect of that, as your casual retard types try to parasitically siphon attention off the core fanbase.
>>
I've switched from Doom to Quake mods and never looked back.
Sprites have such a cheap look when compared to 3D models.
>>

Sprites > 2.5D
As for why gzdoom over build engine, one is far more documented and easier to work with than the other
>>
>>738591212
Sprites > 3D*
>>
>>738590237
Because it's a lot harder to make 3d models and levels than sprites and 64x64 textures.
>>
It's all about communities and once you hit critical mass then you're too big too fail.
Doom managed to attract zoomertroons and other freaks in the mid 2010s
Quake modding is still the same 40yo boomers and while they're higher quality on average the themes are always the same. Hell just check quaddicted and the screenshots of all the maps recently uploaded and you'll see what I mean.
>>
>>738591347
is this how quakecels cope with even quakecon being all about doom lmao
>>
>>738591420
modern dooms are just single player quake 3 arena
>>
>>738591420
All I said is that doom modding absorbed all the potential creativity for old game modding. How is that coping? I'm past the acceptance stage
>>
>>738590237
Build engine fucking sucks ass to work with.
>>
>>738592013
I mean Ion Fury was pretty good, surely it's not that hard to work with if they were able to make something of it?
>>
>>738590237
doom enemies are better and allow for more varaiety
>>
>>738592212
But why use Build over GZDoom
>>
Doom has better sounds, graphics, weapons and enemies
Quake is grungy, dark, low enemy count, ugly audio, uninspired, unsatisfying weapons
>>
finally got around to beasting BLOOD after so many years of starting and stopping it and i had a really good time
the expansion had some well made maps too, IMO
was playing on the hardest difficulty and it's pretty brutal how even one cultist catching you off guard will fuck your hp
something about these games makes me appreciate it on a technical level
>>
>>738592338
Yeah quake gameplay is just ok
>>
>>738590237
TrenchBroom is fucking hard
>>
>>738590237
what map is this?
