WoW was always shit. Even when it came out it was a steaming pile of shit for casuals and retards.

>a steaming pile of shit for casuals and retards
so like...an MMO?
>>
>>738593628
gaming as a concept wasnt really for casuals back then

O m g

Yes, it was a steaming pile of shit.
Yes, it was for retards.
No, it wasn't for casuals.
It's possible to be a retard dumping hours of their life into a game that demands it. SEE ALSO: EVE Online.
>>
WoW was so shit that its trendchaser clones defined an entire gen of PC gaming.
and, somehow, despite wow being shit, all of the clones managed to be worse

evefag here, we sneered down our fucking noses at all the fantasy peasants playing wow. the ventrilo elitism was unreal.
wow could eat your life if you let it (it was designed to hook you), but as far as MMOs went there were far worse timesinks. SWG and wildstar and runescape, just off the cuff. any korean grindslop (space cowboy, tera, etc) were two tiers worse.
>>
>>738594132
I forgot about wildstar, damn

Do people really think this game was for normies? Halfway through vanilla you would be paying a sub and unable to see the newest content while being graveyard camped by premades in bgs.
>>
>>738593970
>No, it wasn't for casuals.
In terms of grind and complexity it got mogged by most MMOs of the time. WoW was literally the MMO for "a larger audience".
>>
>>738594382
>Do people really think this game was for normies?
it was.
>be me, Shadowbane player
>openworld pvp mmo, free PvP everywhere but NPC cities, inventory loss on death
>no quests, no instanced dungies, you must grind on worldmobs for XP and gold
>game becomes almost unplayable as solo once you leave noob island (you will be ganked and farmed)
>need to join a guild so you can grind in a group so you don't get ganked
>guild needs to build forges & shops to gear people so your builds work and you can win fights
>you need world drop from rare mob to unlock key abilities like "find ganking target" and "detect ganker"
>they spawn in a fixed location every 6hrs (it is permacamped by cartel guild) or on server reboot
WoW and WoW clones would never even dream of this shit.
>>
>>738594698
didnt read your cool little mmo story there because literally who asked m8

Why can't gamers just accept that they're better than other players, they always have to make them curbstomping noobs a problem somehow
>>
>>738593628
I never actually played WoW, but everything I've heard about it makes me think it was, in fact, not made for casuals. It was certainly marketed to normalfags, which is why it was so popular, but I wouldn't say it was actually made for them. MMOs at the time were considered games that didn't require any skill at all to play. There was a guy who wrote a paper (or book, I forget) trying to assess which types of games had the smartest players, even though he himself didn't know much about video games. Going by the IQ of gamers he tested and what games they played, he came to the conclusion that games could be divided into four categories. MMOs were in the bottom tier for IQ. He called them "process-oriented games" or in other words games where "winning" wasn't the objective and you could just "exist". Those would be the dumbest games since they asked nothing of its players.

basically every MMO before WoW had stuff like de-leveling, leveling through pure mob grinding in usually highly contested spots, permanent stat and skill distribution, losing gear on death and permanent gear degradation, topped off with always on pvp. This is what the "true" hardcore MMO fags cry about, because they think losing dozens or even hundreds of hours of progress in one go is good game design.

When did WoW peak?
>>
>>738596169
In the mainstream media it was Wrath of the Lich King, subscribers was Cataclysm.
>>
>>738596516
Reality it was Legion.

even if you believe this it was still magical because the people back then were magical
>wow 2004
>everyone communicates with each other on a very friendly level
>every group people are shooting the shit with each other
>everyone is welcome into everything for the most part
>the vast majority don't care about speed, bis, or gold
>everything is cool and everyone is cool
>FAST FORWARD---------
>wow 2026
>everything is speedrunners and everyone cares about completion time
>nobody communicates period esp in dungeons were they speedrun, cant type hello or how are you cuz that means your not doing your rotation
>if a group wipes everyone leaves
>cant communicate in general chat because its SPAMMED with boosts and LFM logs required
>need logs to get into just about everything
>everyone cares about gold, big numbers, ALLSTAR POINTS, completion time
>people care about this to the point id bet at least HALF of the community use paid addons
Anyone playing wow in 2026 is mentally ill, esp retail, retail somehow got turned into a fucking e-sport and its the deadest e-sport in the whole world and is STILL SOMEHOW AN E-SPORT
>>
>wojakposter calling anyone else mentally ill
>>
>>738597036
Im currently playing, it's true
not only the playerbase is insufferable, but they are also so fucking bad at the game they are maining for 20years, it's painful really, wont renew the sub for a bit, the game is genuinely not enjoyable, especially for me since my friends refused to follow me for MIDnight

I played this when it was burning crusade?
there was a tank that was doing an instance for us and I had to unequip my fucking pants to not outpull him on aggro on my dot undead guy.

Nigga was in full orange tier armor
I was in whites.

Shit was pathetic.
>>
>>738594021
Yeah I do old man. In fact I was running mythics and arena last night with my friends while shooting the shit with guildies. Something you aspie middle aged balding fucks will never understand.
>>
>>738594132
>we sneered down our fucking noses at
shut the fuck up nerd
there is no discernible difference between evefags and a disposable wallet
all mmofags should be locked up in the same house forced to drink each others piss bottles for sustenance and suck each other off for eternity
>>
>>738593628
It was special
>>
It's still the best feeling (combat-wise) MMO in existence, aside from lost ark, but lost ark's P2W makes it something not even worth experiencing.
