Is it worth trying to get into Melee and its successors today? How alive are Melee, Project M, and Hewdraw Remix? Are they Discord fighters?

Just play Ultimate, bro. You're not an interesting person for trying to get into the Melee scene.
>>
Melee is the only Smash game worth playing

Casually or Competitively, your choice

i would say no because for some reason most people who really like this game have mental illnesses, and i say this as a meleefag

if you are planning to enter the tourney scene give up, not worth it.
Casual matches though? sure there is still an active community, keep in mind the old guard is gone and the peak of the modding scene was about a decade ago.

Melee and now Smash 64 are the only games in the series with rollback. PM and HDR are Discord tier since they have no rollback.
You should just play Rivals of Aether 2 instead, and Combo Devils when it comes out.

>Melee
Doing good. Depending on country, your scene might be small. But if you are from US you have better chances for attending majors etc. compared to nippons or euros. Or especially people from elsewhere like Australia.
Anyway, get Slippi, rip your 1.03 Meleepirate it, slap your adapter Wii U/Switch gcc adapter on PC, and buy a proper GCC. Tutorials are plenty so just play around with char that feels the best to play. Don't be discouraged if you suddenly feel like you aren't improving, people will help you to spot what you are doing wrong.
Unfortunately this means you gotta use Discord to be able to communicate with other Smash players. Also easier for online tourneys
If you are brave enough, support your local scenes. If you aren't a sperg and know how to hide your powerlevel, all be fine. If you are afraid of your current cord history, make an alt. You'll make good friends from the local scene and it'll become a fun hobby.
>Ultimate
More active. As a Melee player, I dislike it a bit from gameplay aspect. But do pick it up if you prefer Ult over Melee.
Otherwise pretty much same Discord stuff as above, support your locals.
>Project M
Sleep well sweet prince.
>Hewdraw Remix
Not familiar sadly.

Anyway, gl on your journey. If you just want to play alone online etc. then do btw. But I genuinely think Smash community can be nice and helpful.
All places have their reputations and bad apples, but you should know as we are on 4chan out of all places.
Haters also be haters. Some people enjoys misery here so gotta filter some noise.
But do whatever makes you happy.

You're not gonna make a career out of it. People will gatekeep you out of spite.

>Playing a game competitively must be a career
Why? And I have never even seen people try to gatekeep. Melee just ain't profitable but people play it out of passion.
Are you just repeating e-celeb/SoMe opinions?

No because meleefags are such a sweat fest, I hope the next game is floaty to keep the melee and compfags melting
>>
>>738624139
You should be asking for a Smash sequel that's almost as good as Melee. Meleefags don't give a shit about Brawl or Ultimate, they just ignore it. But if a sequel actually split their community and stole players, that would actually drive them mad.

64 got rollback a few days ago
>>
>>738619628
Now that the dust has settled, how good is the Dong actually?
>>
>>738625221
Good.
Destroys spacies out of grab. Has confirms on almost every character out of grab. Good bair and upair autocombo. Upb oos is amazing and upb in general kills early. Amazing cc. Giant Punch reads are amazing. Lots of tech.
But problem is getting grabs, ass dashback and shield, and massive hurtbox and combofood. Sheik problem as well
Below Luigi, above Doc imo. Viable.

I can still find games on Slippi where I am, so melee is still very playable. The rollback netcode with slippi is very good, better than most fighting games
>>
>>738619628
Play a game that respects your time. Melee ain't it.
>>
>>738626191
playing videogames is synonym for not respecting your own time, it's a hobby.

>People will gatekeep you out of spite.
I don't know what kind of locals you go to but this couldn't be further from the truth. In my experience top players will go out of their way to teach you the game if you ask
>>
I miss Project M.
>>
>>738626083
How does he approach? I guess practically it's moot for the most part cause melee players are predominately aggresive but am curious anyways. He's doesn't seem like a character that can force the opponent to approach them by cornering them around with superior range / positional advantage, and obviously he doesn't have projectiles to force others to approach and play on the defensive or conversely saturate his approach with them. Although, giant punch is powerful enough that your opponent camping you can be answered with free charges I suppose. His speed is nice but I'd think his big hitbox would make it so he isn't really safe to casually slam into you with like sheik and spacies.
