Sure, I could have just never updated anything at all once I had a setup I liked, but it was the case for many years if you didn't, you'd be missing out on something good and it wasn't worth it not to. That isn't the case anymore and its almost always an enshittification trap now I had no way of anticipating because it wasn't the precedent for so many years. A good example of how mods also got enshittified is Starsector, particularly mods like Diable Avionics that were updated with shittier sprite work and major 'balancing' for a single player game where you can figure out how to kill god by ramming freighters into him as if balance ever mattered. Other mods fell to the same plague of demented retardation one by one, most recently Auroran federation nuking itself in the exact same way Diable Avionics was. There are way more examples I could give than just Starsector. But yeah fuck video games I'm tired of this monkey's paw bullshit, going back to tabletop.
