There's actually an entire storyline you can go through with dungeons and the end goal is liberating your character from exile, which deletes them. Most people just don't bother with it because, you know, it's the end of the game. There are unique like, NPCs and bosses, but not towns within the world, THAT is the survival crafting slop, build anywhere.

With the exception of the Isle of Siptah, every piece of DLC is purely cosmetic. This includes the DLC on the steam store as well as the in-game Funcom shop stuff. Weapon skins, armor skins, skins for animal companions, emotes, decorations and themed build pieces for base-building, that kind of thing. All of it can be safely ignored, or you can pick up whichever bits look neat. None of it really matters.

Isle of Siptah is different because it's a second game map. When it was first released, it was actually a fully separate game world, with its own servers and everything. As of this week, there are now NPCs in the world that will let you travel between the Exiled Lands (base game) and the Isle of Siptah, if you have it. So whereas Siptah used to be a DLC for when you'd gotten bored of the base game and wanted something new, it now instead effectively doubles the size of the game world. Not something you really need to get right away, but worth being aware of. There's nothing in either DLC shop that's really going to impact your experience as a new player and anything you want you can just buy later. Some of the build pieces in the steam-store DLC packs are pretty nice though.

I only just started playing and i'm on the Siptah map (not ideal for a new playerfrom what i've read) and i'm finding a lot of story stuff, really well voice acted as well, delivered mostly through journals, ghosts and cutscenes though. It's certainly more of a survival/craft/exploration game (and you could easily miss the story), but there is a bunch of lore/story there for those who want it.

If you really like the base game Siptah would be worth getting as it'll give you a new map, new building set, lots of new stuff in general. The rest is cosmetic so only get it if you like building, base game has plenty of content though so I really wouldn't stress about any DLC off the bat.

As someone who does a lot of building I probably use the nemedian stuff in the People of the Dragon Pack, stable stuff in the Riders of Hyboria Pack (not for stables, but it's just good generic timber framing etc) and arena stuff from Blood and Sand Pack the most, but it's all down to personal tastes. There's fuedal japanese stuff, roman, greek etc

Combination of record number of players, questionable servers and i'm pretty sure merging the maps + living settlements without any sort of hard cap on NPC's is having a massive performance impact on the servers.

Like i'm on a server with 30+ people at the moment, and lots of them have towns with like 80 thralls + dozens of NPC's, which means the server is now having to deal with well over a thousand NPC's pathing and other shit.

Can I play this solo or is it optimal to play in a server?

Nothing about the game requires multiplayer. It has a built-in follower system for 1-2 NPC thralls and/or animal companions to adventure with you. All content is soloable. Multiplayer servers can have varying degrees of RP if that's your thing, and PvP servers exist (PvP is nominally what the game was designed for, but it's such a clusterfuck that it's almost a secondary mode at this point). There's also something kind of cool about stumbling on other players' builds, even if most of them are eyesores. Content-wise, though, there's nothing multiplayer gives you that single-player doesn't. I exclusively play solo on a self-hosted server.

It's not on Steam, just my mod folder, but Mua_Brutess was the initial version, then WYS_Thralls when I expanded it to several other big girls who were using the BossHeight20% tag or whatever it was called in the editor. If you have any kind of thrall editor mod (IQoL or ToT!Custom), you can manually return the height yourself by setting them to 1.20x in the height slider. IQoL let's you adjust the max height slider to allow it before editing the height. ToT worked out the box but I vaguely recall some occasional issue about it, like resetting to the game default max (1.05 or 1.1, one of those), but I'm not sure anymore. My mod had just removed the bossheight tag and set the RNG slider from 1.0-1.0 to 1.15-1.30. It was pretty easy to do, but it was per NPC rather than a script that edited all NPC's with the tag.

There used to be several mods on steam workshop that did the same thing, but for some reason I can't find them anymore when typing out this post.

Did they fix the core gameplay loop? My main issue with this game is the sheer amount of crafting tables. This isn't unique to this game, but it's glaring. I'm out there collecting items to build tables to build more tables. Tables upon tables upon tables that all progression is gated behind. This wouldn't be so bad if the combat wasn't so weightless, glitchy and tedious. The enemy spawns have an issue as well, in that they are all static, it never feels like I've effected the world in any significant way because each time I go back to the spider area, they're all back. Every time I wipe out a bandit camp, they're back the next time I run around. It feels more like an MMO than other survival crafting grindathons I've played because the environment isn't permanent. The basebuilding is alright, but it's bogged down by hundreds of bits of cosmetic DLC's for walls, roofs, floors etc.
So if it's merely a cosmetic upgrade, I have zero interest because the core gameplay is not fun. The crafting, the combat and the map are not fun. Basebuilding is pretty good.

I remember trying to play about 2 years ago on an official server and it was incredibly laggy. Insane amounts of rubberbanding pretty much every few seconds. Is that just an official server thing? I want to play with other people out in the world, preferabbly on a PvE server because I've had my shit stolen while offline too many times, but what should I be looking for when rolling on a new server?

The visual blood effect seems a bit overzealous since the update. I'll often punch by accident when building shit around my thralls, and it'll trigger a big blood splatter effect even though the closest npc is still like 5-6 feet away

I build soulless work camps with loads of stations for each individual resource I need, then gather several thousand materials to craft at all of them at once. In old Conan, it didn't cause a problem. But in this, it's causing horrible lag to the point of crashing.

Post a screenshot of your location. I've never had this happen before, and I have about 400 hrs in exiles. I've been playing with a greatsword since the update came out and don't cause damage to myself. The only reasons I can think of are you're taking chip damage from an enemy stuck underground. Second swing hurting you is too dam specific for me not replicate easily and I'm not having the same problem. And weapon trails are fancy effects weapons have when using them. I turn that shit off immediately under the gameplay tab in settings.

Race is meaningless in terms of gameplay. Pick what you like. You can google the irl counterparts. Cimmerians are Scotts, Shemites are Jews, Stygians are Egyptians, etc. etc.

As for mods, it's generally better without. But mods to make building work a little better are good, mods that let you take more slaves out with you, stuff like that are fun. Transmog, of course.

I've never tried because I'm extremely over-protective of my thralls. I assume they'll follow you, the only thing that might cause issues is that going through load doors teleports you to another part of the map where the interior of the dungeon is, and I don't know if npcs can teleport like that, because, again, I've never tried.

They haven't announced anything but it's easy to assume that part of the reason they went through the effort of porting Exiles to UE5 was so that they could continue to develop it. Most of the team is working on Dune now, which is in UE5, and it kind of seems like Conan just didn't have anybody left to work on it. Now they can share their time between both games. This is just conjecture, but it would be weird if they rolled this out just to do nothing with it.

They actually did. As part of this update, all previous battlepasses, along with the (previously) rotating major build sets, are now available permanently in the in-game store. Rotating FOMO bait items still exist but is pretty limited now.
