Easier on the joints and lets him move faster than a snails pace. And it just is ridiculous which is why Kojima really did it.

That's right, Snake. Video games are a type of interactive entertainment media, where you control something - or someone - in a virtual world, usually with some kind of specific objective, goal, or task to complete. That can cover all kinds of subjects - from racing, to fighting, to shooting, to space exploration, and anything in-between.

A lot of people think video games started with Pong, or maybe Asteroids, but they're much older than that; the first known developments were in the late 1940s, but the first one that was more than just an experiment was Spacewar in 1962, developed for the Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-1 minicomputer. Don't let the name fool you, Snake - back then, a "mini" computer was still the size of a wardrobe!

Spacewar itself was a sort of rudimentary space combat simulator, where two spaceships tried to shoot eachother while manoeuvring to dodge incoming fire and avoid falling into a star in the middle of the battlespace. The next milestone after that was Space Invaders in 1978 - where the object was to shoot down alien invaders before they could destroy a city - and Asteroids in 1979, where the object was to fly around an asteroid field and destroy both asteroids and hostile spaceships. Many more followed in the next few years; operators would buy a bunch of cabinets for different games and put them all together in something called an "arcade", where you could pay for game time with coins.

Nowadays, you don't have to go to an arcade to play video games; you can play them at home on your personal computer, or on a specialized device called a "game console", which usually connects to a television set as its display. Modern video games are much more advanced than they used to be - home systems have been able to do full 3D graphics for a while now, and they can achieve some pretty impressive effects including high-quality pre-voiced character dialogue and CD-quality music! They're saying the next big thing for video games will be "virtual reality" - an audio-visual experience so immersive, it'll feel like real life! Can you imagine it, Snake? I'm excited just thinking about it!

he's a bomberman reference
fatman - bomberman
vamp - alucard (same voice actor in japanese)
fortune - ana brown from policenauts (similar design, sax motif and her railgun is a railshooter/lightgun reference)
solidus - dracula
