Friendly reminder that an OLED display is the single biggest upgrade to picture quality there is.

>>738655283True sis. The best part about OLEDs is that you don't even need to have your games open to see them!
it’s true. Why spend money on a 5090 to play the latest shit with path tracing when your display is complete and utter garbage to begin with?that’s like upgrading a carriage with a Ferrari engine
>>738656453>that’s like upgrading a carriage with a Ferrari engineSounds rad
Yeah they always look pretty spiffyJust one of those 'when I have the money to fling' thingsPersonally I just upgraded to my FIRST ips monitor, I'd been using the same 1920X1200 TN one for over a decade. And I'd never had to adjust the refresh rate settings from 60 before, leaping to 180 for the first time was real cool
i have never had a non oled monitor look that badthis is bad faith posting for real
>>738655283only if the devs also had an OLED when making the gameIf the dev uses a normal LED display he will collor correct to it and when you play it on a OLED, you get a bunch of gray blacks or crushed down darknessFor example, Hollow Knight, it is chock full of gray blacks when it was clear it was supposed to be absolute black, but the development monitor couldn't display it correctlyMeanwhile back when the vita was oled only, you had perfectly color balanced games, to the point that when the LCD model came out at first, games looked extra shit on it because of the full on OLED color balance
now fix the brightness settings
>>738655283Get on with the times.
>>738655608It's because these comparisons never angle the camera correctly. If you point the camera directly at the screen, as if you were looking directly at it, instead of from above or the side, then the picture looks significantly better. Still, OLED is better, but these comparisons are pretty biased.>t. owns both an IPS and OLED monitor
>>738655608Because it's a small video contrasted against the rest of your screen. It appears dark locally, compared to the rest of the image your display is showing, but a full screen dark scene won't appear completely black unlike on an OLED.
>>7386564535090s are for work I hope you didn't buy one to play video games..
>>738656860ReShade has helped me in a lot of games with grey blacks
>>738655283Miniled gives you the same exact experience without the risk of burn-in
>>738657485>without the risk of burn-inI have over 10k on my oled monitor I could care less about burn in, I will never go back to any IPS/TN/VA shit ever again.
>>73865775210k hours*
>>738656973Right? "Backlight set to max, Picture set to "Vivid" wtf this looks like shit
>>738656860I don't play games with blacks
switched to OLED last year, kind of on a whim, since AOC started making a 1440p OLED monitor for a good price.absolutely night-and-day. i was running a VA panel, but i had tested some IPS and god damn the bleed was psychotic. OLED is definitely worth the price of admission.
>>738655283>guys, guys, a good backlight is better than a shitty backlightHOLY PENIS WHAT A SCOOP
>>738656658>when I have the money to flingNo its more like becoming the standard.IPS is old tech. You saw how rabid people are and angry at the switch 2 screen. People hate IPS more than ever, and OLED is literally shown the with the deck OLED not that expensive to be put in devices both on phones and gaming devices. If a device doesnt have OLED I don't buy it, It's that simple.
the biggest difference with oled for me is the response time without dsc. will never use another ips with dsc.
>>738655283>LCD monitor with smart LED backlight from 15 years ago>Plasma TV from 15 years agoHey look I have the same fucking picture quality lel eat a dick
>>738658246lol plasma cant do true black because plasmas arent even black when they are OFF lmao
>>738658401>I bought a shit plasmacool story bro
>>738655283No ips blooming has ever bothered me as much as vertical grey banding doesI hope this garbage breaks in a few years and I can switch to mini led
>>738658458i never bought a plasma because im not a fucking retard. they are all grey its literally justi inherent to the technology. they have a panel full of phosphor inside. it as nothing to do with the quality of the screen.
>>738658649Mine looks pretty black to me, champ.Enjoy paying out the ass for your OLED.
>>738658786>Mine looks pretty black to me, champ.then you have bad eyes. again, they literally cant display true black. its not a question, im telling you. >Enjoy paying out the ass for your OLED.400 bucks, not bad at all. oh but wait a second...you said you bought a plasma 15 years ago. 2011 plasmas? and you're implying you bought high-end? you're in for 3000 minimum. and unless its small, you're in for more. plasmas were expensive. so you paid much more for much less. sorry, kid.

>>738655283I have a Mini LED monitor right now, it's pretty good. I'll upgrade to an OLED eventually.
>>738655283>nonexistent HDRA good miniLED gets you 99% of the way to perfect blacks AND has actual HDR capability, all without the fear of inherent planned obsolescence in the form of burn in and the ridiculous rituals needed to delay the inevitable.
>>738655608fpbp
>wrf why does my IPS monitor look weird when I record overexposed footage on a phone camera in a pitch black room?Retard.
>>738659035>My plasma is as black as night and has a lifetime service guaranteelifetime service from who? nobody manufactures plasma panels any more, youre NEVER going to be able to fix it if anything happens lmao. circuit city went under in 2008 you said your TV was from 2010-2011 (15 years ago). sorry i keep embarrassing you but maybe just stop posting?
>>738659064What IPS (VA is for retards) miniLED has good contrast even in SDR? I tried a couple but the local dimming was awful in SDR and so ended up going with an OLED instead.
>>738659251>y-you'll never be able to fix it! Panasonic doesn't even exist anymore!lmao I got a full board replacement for free two years ago you retard

>>738655283Nah, I'm not too fond of blacks.
>>738659671enjoy never going above, at best, 85hz, but most likely 60, grey boy. tell me what model your tv is if youre so confident...
>>738659708you dont actually have to do every 4 hours, i dont change my background to solid black (are you just sitting and staring at your wallpaper?), and modern screens have taskbar dimming they do on their own. oled burn in is old news, its considered a non-issue now to anybody who actually pays attention.
>>738656860Renodx always got my back
It's the most I've ever been immersed in a game.
>>738660040>oled burn in is old news, its considered a non-issue nowBy who? Because anyone who actually pays attention knows OLED burn in will ALWAYS exist on every panel as an inherent flaw with the technology. They only have a limited amount of time before they chew through all their headroom. Then the panel compensates by dimming the entire screen. My church had an iPad that we would use to control cameras during mass. When we weren't available to use it, it would sit on the altar and the priest would control it. Our solution was to leave this iPad on 24/7, so that visiting priests wouldn't have to mess with it mid-mass, and it did this for literal years. Always on the same interface. No degradation. No discoloration. It kept on trucking for years. Probably well over 40,000 hours of screen-on time before it was replaced due to the battery swelling. Our new iPad is an OLED. We've had it for a month. It's already burning in.
>>738655283Yeah, I'm still impressed from time to time.
>>738660668I wish alchemy wasn't so overpowered, it turns pitch dark night into overcast day.Thunder storm at night is the only weather condition I wish they added. I would just watch and listen to the rain.
>>738655283yeah oled is great and all. but have you played in 144hz 144fps? that shit makes a difference, i dont know why only competitive first person shooters allow such high refresh rates. the gaming industry has to change
>>7386613424k 120Hz with SMAA on an OLED looks incredible, but forget about running modern games at such frame rates.
I don't play horror games
>>738657752The burn-in still happens, you just don't see it because modern OLEDs are good at hiding it.They reduce the brightness of unaffected pixels to blend in the burned areas. This reduces the overall brightness of the panel.
>>738655608mind=blown
protip: at the same brightness level oled is perceptually brighter. A 200 nit oled is more like a 400 nit IPS.>https://tftcentral.co.uk/articles/comparing-oled-and-lcd-brightness-and-exploring-samsung-displays-truebright-certification
>>738664883Yeah I see where they're coming from but this reads as a bunch of marketing PR bullshit. At the same brightness output OLED looks more contrasty and saturated, but I wouldn't say it looks brighter. The human eye doesn't perceive brightness linearly to begin with, a 400 nits white screen is not twice as bright as a 200 nits white screen to your eyes, it's only marginally brighter. Our eyes are also more sensitive to brightness changes in shadows than highlights (which is why monitors have a gamma curve).
>>738659340People turn their PCs off?
>>738657752>I could care lessit's "couldn't care less", if you "could care less" then that implies you do still care to a degree
Pictured: an IPS monitor
>>738666108Also pictured: the exact same IPS monitor but this time with local dimming enabled. It gets brighter than OLED and it has 0 but in risk. Enjoy.
>>738666178Now post a starry night scene
>>738666245You must be one of those autistic space sim faggots. Also, now post a bright sunny tropical scene with midday sun. Your shitty OLED will dim to sub 2010 tier TN panel territory lul
>>738655283why does nobody talk about vertical banding on oled
>>738655283Nah I don't want to have to buy a new screen after a year when the current one is unusable because of all the burn-in.
>>738655283this but MiniLED
>>738655283Nah OLED is a scam. Made to squeeze money out of poor people that are tech illiterate.MiniLED is where it's at.

MiniLED shills always omit the following facts>no burn inExcept it does happen. Thought it may take much longer and not in a manner similar to OLEDs>near perfect blackAt the cost of very noticeable blooming and small white bits, such as text, looking grayIf you already have a regular IPS monitor and are looking to upgrade to a MiniLED, consider either keeping it at least until they triple the number of dimming zones by which point we'll probably have commercially available microLEDs, or getting an OLED
>>738655608Unironically but this kek
I bought my LG C1 5 years ago. It replaced my TV and dual monitor PC setup. Using it daily 24/7 basically, running most stuff in HDR. Zero issues or burn in
>>738658401install darker tint https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mWpCuTap3yA
my monitors run too many hours on mostly static stuff per dayit's not worth the price just to burn in my browser, mail client and torrent software
