>comes out next week>no hypeWhat went wrong Disco bros???
Nobody fucking cares about ZAUM without the writers and artists that made Disco. All they could possibly have to sell a new game with is the Disco IP and they can't even use it.
It's guaranteed to be worse than DE and no one looks forward to downgrades.
>>738662860It's so weird to me that ZAUM is even trying to make more games, they should just pivot to being a consultant or something
>>738662860I played the demo and it feels like a game made by someone that was described Disco Elysium to and told to make the same game, but with a few small things changed. It's just uninspired and the world feels way blander. Also, as a brazilian, they fucking butcher all the portuguese words' pronunciations. Not even an attempt at a proper accent, be it brazilian or portuguese.Boring, boring, boring.
>>738662860Because what >>738662939 said - it's a game developed by the same studio, but by none of the key people who worked on DE itself.
>>738663080the game is set in brazil?
>>738662860I'm excited for it, the demo was fun. It's obviously not going to be good as DE but I like CRPGs.
>>738662996Should've just waited until the lawsuits clear. If Netanyahu had given them control, they could make a sequel and make money from those unaware of the drama.
>>738663206The "native" language is portuguese and most of the terms and words related to the city you are in are in portuguese in the same way most of the names of locations and terms in Revachol were french.
>>738663080>Also, as a brazilian, they fucking butcher all the portuguese words' pronunciationsPortugal bros, is this legitimate? or is this like americans and latinx complaining about british english or peninsular spanish
heheheh penisular
>>738662860None of the games copying DE thought of adding combat back into the formula, even though it was supposed to be a part of DE that was cut due to time/budget
>call game zero parades>be surprised there are zero parades
Last time I checked the official ranking was>Red Info>Summer Eternal>Dark Math>Longdue>ZA/UMDid anything happen? Any lawsuits resolved? Any games announced?
>>738666946summer eternal is selling a book describing a video game instead of a video game and dark math has turned their game into a third person shooter or some shit. as far as I am aware longdue hasn't embarrassed themselves yet so I would put them under red info
>>738667515>dark math has turned their game into a third person shooter or some shit.Is he going to scan his mail order model wife and make us stare at her ass?
>>738666946>>738667515Which one was the one to randomly call for a "digital revolution" against Valve?
>>738666809Because combat fucking sucks. It's literally the reason no one replays planescape torment.
>>738667515>longdue hasn't embarrassed themselves yetThey made a Kickstarter
>>738666809Esoteric Ebb had some combat
>>738662860From the image it looked like a new Zero Escape game.
>>738666809and thank god for it
>>738668259I believe that was Summer Eternal
>>738666946Tangerine Antarctic went full 3D and looks like ass now.
>>738662860because KSP2 was such a great project!
>>738666946take your pick
>>738671429>Tangerine AntarcticWhat a dumb name.
>>738662939>the Disco IP and they can't even use it.Wait, I thought this game was set in the same setting as Disco, is that not the case?
>>738662860Demo sucked dick. We've had these 5 fucks racing for the title of successor only to have some swede from RPGcodex surpass them
Only small infantile children in their 20's pre 30's consider hype. You are a child, you will not change my mind, grow up. Stop preordering games, pirate them day one and ONLY buy them if you want to support the devs afterwards. This isn't advice, this is me stating absolute fact, you child. Now make this thread again when the game is actually out, I refuse to pirate a demo.
>>738671940Nope, it's a I Can't Believe it's Not Disco original setting. ZA/UM is involved in too many legal cases involving the Sacred and Terrible Air IP to risk using it in a game.
>>738669837Its mostly dialog with time pressure but honestly it worked quite well.
>>738671904They are all dumb names, but that's the charm. The chuckle at their immaturity is the peak enjoyment you can get out of their projects.
>>738671940No.And that’s for the best. At least Za/um has the decency to try and make their own thing and not parade around Elysium’s corpse and call it theirs..
>>738662860I cant wait for the reddit post from 101 iq tards who haven't read a book since high-school with titles like "I was skeptical at first, but this game lives up to everything that was disco and then some!", or "Im having an absolute blast so far, why all the hate?" Andy by reddit posts I mean game journalist reviews
>>738672129>At least Za/um has the decencyLolThey couldn't use it, they aren't doing it out of some commitment to artistic integrity.
>>738671429Kek it looks like a weg gamr now
>>738672154And what's the last book you read exactly? For me it was the King in Yellow.
>>738672335nta but it was Black Eidolon and Other Stories by Clark Ashton Smith
>>738672462Dark Eidolon*
>>738672335Recently read the book "Oranges arent the only fruit" a week or two ago, it was pretty interesting but I dont know if I can recommend it, especially here. I want to gdt back into scifi shit though I got a little stack lined up.
>>738672610If you want a hidden gem for scifi, I rather enjoyed the fifth science by exurb1a. Dude is a very good creative writer. I'll look into yours.
>>738662860>>738671854All mogged by le autistic straight white male game (Esoteric Ebb)
>>738672154Unironically who the fuck are you quoting? Disco players are a bit more literate and a lot more online than the average gamer and are aware of the status of the game's creators. Their reddit specifically has declared a fatwa against ZA/UM and you can't discuss Zero Parades there.
>>738671854there's an updated version as three projects are now known
>>738662860Why would I want to support the people who killed Disco?
>>738672746Ign review circa 2027
>>738672746>Their reddit specifically has declared a fatwaA moot example given that their moderators are all faggots that ended up licking the boots of a bunch of plebbit executive kikes when they threatened to remove all of them from their "positions" during that one boycott attempt, thus i can make a reasonable prediction that Zero Paradise is going to be their subleddit's new discussion topic.
>>738672776could use a picture of summer eternal's dumbass vinyl release or something
>>738662939>>738663082Honesty I'm really happy that at least so many people seem to be aware of that. This case is especially shitty, but this should be a more common mindset in general when it comes to vidya. With how rapid the employee rotation is in most studios, especially large ones, "made by creator of X" very often doesn't mean shit
>>738666809Honestly playing through the tribunal scene for the first time was possibly the most tense I've ever felt in a combat scene, even though it was 100% text and checks based
>>738672776There is also the currently in dev Cultist Simulator CRPG one that count as DE-adjacent.
>>738674954That looks more like old school Badluars gate than Disco Elsyium
>>738675050Not really
>>738674581Because only some devs get to become rockstars of the industry. Your Kojima, Molyneux, etc. Most people equate studio name with quality when in reality it's the people, especially KEY people. It's how Arkane went to shit the moment Colantio got pushed out, for example.
>>738662860The demo was... underwhelming idk it just didn't hook me at all and it feels like a cheap rip off rehashing the amnesia angle again
>>738674954Clam Man 2 as well.
>>738675351>it's a visual novel, but all the text is on the right third of the screen instead of across the bottom third of the screenDiscofags really thought this style of game was revolutionary and merited a dozen knockoffs
>>738675762have you ever read a visual novel? the differences should be striking and obvious
>>738675762It has skills and shit. I think more honest description would be "a crpg, but your entire build revolves around talking and exploration rather than combat" The insistence to ape the "dialogue box on the right" thing as if it was something genuinely relevant is funny though
>>738675762It merits way more than a dozen knockoffs. There are thousands and thousands of japanese VNs, DE style games should be the western response to that to the point a vndb style site is made to catalog all the discolikes.
>>738676002Dialog on the side is one of those things that should've happened a lot sooner ever since we got widescreen monitors. Was Shadowrun among the first to do it?
>>738662860Looking forward to the shills and secondaries praising this slop as being the next DE
>>738676171I doubt it. This game already has negative reputation surrounding it because of studios shenanigans and I think Disco Elysium was lighting in a bottle.
>>738672746>>738673474You faggots seem to know a lot about Reddit, how about fucking off back there. Better yet suck start the nearest firearm please.
>>738676231Don't worry the Reddit bleed over will be in full effect just like BG3
>>738666809I don't see combat as a good fit for these games. What I want is puzzles. Disco Elysium is shockingly linear in reality for how people talk about it
>>738676135I think it kinda depends on the prose. If a game has long, wordy descriptions and dialogue lines a text box on the bottom of the screen works better, since it can hold those without the need to constantly scroll/move lines and it still leaves most of the screen uncovered. For a game like Disco, where lots of dialogue is relatively short and witty with different characters chiming in often, side text box works better. But to be perfectly honest personally I don't think it matters all that much.>>738676318>Disco Elysium is shockingly linear in reality for how people talk about itFor the game as a whole it's sadly true, but it does have a surprising amount of small scenes and interactions that you may never see outside of very specific playthroughs
>>738676057>>738676057Moderately huge VNfag here (yes I will introduce myself). While Disco Elysium's story kinda sucked as a whole and in retrospect, exploring that world for the first time, going through the gameplay for the first time, it was all so cool. I had no idea there were so many Discolikes, I only knew about the one this thread is about. I would love a VNDB for discolikes (how do we describe them? Storytelling-focused CRPGs?). Right now there probably aren't so many discolikes so you could go through all of them and they could all feel meh, eventually it'd be nice to be able to search for them to match your taste or to see which are the most acclaimed. If the NTR genre can get a DB all to itself, Discolikes should too!
>>738676886>Storytelling-focused CRPGs?'Narrative RPG' is the name people use since at least citizen Sleeper I think.
>what went wrong with discodisco is dead
>>738662860I'll pirate it and play it but I'll never buy another game from them.
>>738662939But this 1 should be written by based capitalists that btfo the commie writers, so this game is totally redpilled
>>738674581>With how rapid the employee rotation is in most studios, especially large ones, "made by creator of X" very often doesn't mean shitMy favorite was Chucklefish advertising a game using "from the publisher of Stardew Valley"And that's years after concernedape escaped that tar pit
>>738672335Fractured Europe Sequence series
>>738676886>I would love a VNDB for discolikes (how do we describe them? Storytelling-focused CRPGs?)There is>the five splinter studios>Esoteric Ebb>Slay the Princess>Kujlevka>Traveling At Nightand those that suck>Glasshouse>Sovereign Syndicate>Rue Valley
>>738671429>>738672776It's amazine how a single image of any of these immediately conveys they're going to be complete garbage. Just the MC being this totally original female lead (please don't look how they're all the same) is already worth two red flags. But don't worry, it gets worse the second it spits its "voice acting" at you.
>>738680294I don't know, the Longdue one looks like it could have some sovl
>>738675457>pushed outHe saw the writing on the wall and left himself, then immediately funded his own indie studio. Dude's a chad.
>>738672335> King in YellowI love the King in Yellow sub-mythos, but let's be honest, the Chambers novel is a poor read. The value of Chambers creation is how it can be used as to bridge Lovecratian mythos with end-of-siecle symbolist fiction.>>738672462Are you the CAS anon that pop up in every weird fantasy thread ?(I hope you continue to do so)
>>738662860>no hype for reddit: the game and its successorim shocked
>>738662860Not localized in my language so I won't buy it
>>738682446>I love the King in Yellow sub-mythos, but let's be honest, the Chambers novel is a poor read. The value of Chambers creation is how it can be used as to bridge Lovecratian mythos with end-of-siecle symbolist fiction.I think it's alright, but yeah, the concepts it introduces (or in many cases even just hints at) and how those concepts and themes evolved after getting adopted by other authors is much better than the original story collection itself
I actually like the idea of playing as a washed, undercover spy that gets paranoid during a mission and it's a shame this game has the odds stacked against it and that the writing will almost certainly feel like "we have Disco Elysium at home" but man...
>>738683326I only tried the demo but a major issue I had was just that the protagonist isn't remotely charming. They aren't willing to go as far to get a joke as DE was with Harry and there's no one to bounce off of like Kim.
>>738677428Got it thanks!>>738680020>5 splinter studioswow. wow haha.
>>738683532The protagonist is fine for a spy thriller story I think. It's the VA who is completely insufferable.
