I should also mention that since the rope is 4th dimentional, it only appears as it does in the image, a single rope with random rope artifacts appearing and disappearing in all directions. Climbing up the rope takes you to the future, and climbing down (easier) takes you to the past. Not sure why you have to climb up to the future and exert more energy.
