Top middle... girl? dude? is decent 90s aesthetic. Not great but it wouldn't look out of place in something set in the 90s. The guy to the right would have been mocked/avoided for the creepy pedostache, but I guess it's accurate in the sense that weird dudes like that existed. The girl to the left just looks retarded, I've never seen someone wear a t-shirt over a turtleneck like that. The bottom stuff is just goofy slop. The girl in overalls has a passable outfit MAYBE but the hair and facepaint ruin it.

The main thing about the 90's is we went out a lot.
Videogames kinda sucked at this point, the internet basically didn't exist yet, only way to talk to your friends was on your house phone, and television was pretty lame.
So you wandered the neighborhood and met up with other kids who were doing the same.
This all shifted dramatically in the 00's, so anyone under 26 has no experience with the old world.

This. Video games were pixelated trash, tv shows were unbelievably shit and movies were ok, which is why people went to the movies. The first tolerable video games started coming out in 1996.

Pop culture sucked so much we thought dragon ball was watchable.

the thing all this shit gets wrong (aside from forced diversity) is that 80% of kids were preppy or retarded. the idea that every teenager is like some hip arty, physically fit rebel in a graphic tee couldnt be further from the truth. the kids into art and music were mostly acne ridden out of shape losers, and the happy kids were mostly shallow preppy kids that listened to top 40 and did sports.

Not at all.
The group would have been ridiculed by the other rich white kids, and the group at the bottom would have been beaten to death by a 12 year old as part of a gang initiation.

>>
>>738668630
In big cities sure but in smalltown suburbia it was almost 100% white. It was very rare for a group of teenage friends to have a black person in the group. Most of these millennial nostalgiaslop games are specifically trying to depict smalltown suburbia, so yeah having so many black people was unrealistic

The real '90s looked more like Saved by the Bell, but less flashy. Lots of basic sweaters and jeans like pic related. And when people tried to put effort into the clothes it still tended to turn our rather goofy, unstylish, and a cacophony of colors and shapes.

This pretty much. I mean I was one of the lucky ones that had a family computer, so my neighbor and I would swap classics like Civ III, Heroes III, Deus Ex, etc.

Still, beyond the few titles you played over and over you'd generally ride your bike around the neighborhood, play street hockey, shoot hoops, go to the pool, see a movie, play some music, etc.

I do feel bad for the ipad babies of this generation because my mother actively encouraged me to get off the PC and go outside. I had a way more vibrant childhood because the way I spent my time.
>>
>>738668630
It's more like there weren't many brown people in the suburbs for historical reasons.
The suburbs were created as whites only communities. When that got outlawed they kept the blacks out through sneakier methods like redlining.
And if the blacks got past the red tape the KKK showed up to burn a cross on their lawn.

Just thinking about early 90s tv and video games makes me sick to my stomach. Daytime television was literally an insult.

I think the first watchable nerdy show was star trek tng from 1994. Before that everything was so ass, talk shows, soap operas, fucking xena the warrior princess, MTV.

Arcades were cool, but at home entertainment was so awful it was all about books. But the books were mostly just "recommended reading" from the 19th century too. Good luck with Dostoevksy at 12.

No wonder everyone was outside.

That's why I said pick up. Now that you mention it I do remember a proper, painted goth girl a la The Crow in one of my classes in the late '90s, but it was still very rare. On the other hand my sister, who's the normiest of normies to ever normie, pretty much looked like the bottom left ca 2005, minus the face paint. I don't know what game that image is from, but it's absolutely not representative of the '90s in my experience.

Movies were awesome in the 90s, but you couldn't watch them at home because VHS was so shit it literally damaged your eyesight, so people went to the movies a lot. There were drive through movies.

6-8 year olds usually were playing outdoors on the playground, 9-12 year olds were doing sports, or skateboarding, or just loafing around town throwing rocks at cans and dumb shit. From then on people did dating, cars, car nuts were everywhere at 16 and above for sure. Drive through movies were a big deal for getting laid.

I call it over representation. It's an attempt to be visually loud and dominating with representation in an attempt to go "we're here and we're proud." The issue is that it looks like shit because over representing so many different things at once makes a visually messy result that distracts from the meaning of it. It's usually in these projects because liberals think they need to be the saviors by representing these communities but also feel like they need to really, really, really represent them a lot because they don't get a lot of representation so they overdo it. The actual groups don't do this shit which is the funny thing.

There was also this abandoned old farm house at the edge of town that we always tried to explore because it was extremely creepy and most likely haunted.

Not true at all. Plenty of Mexicans if you lived in rural areas with lots of major farming operations. They were migrant workers from Mexico and Texas that would come with their families during the Spring, summer, and Fall to work, then move back South in the winter. There were multiple Mexican kids at my school in bumfuck nowhere North Dakota but they would be gone for like half the year. I was friends with one of them who ocassionally lived down the road from me and we used to go with another local kid to fish for catfish in the river nearby, as well as played various N64 games.

Playing Super Mario blew my mind.

Something a lot of poeple miss about "the 90's" is that there was still so much holdover legacy furniture/cars/buildings/decor/concepts from the 70's and 80's still in place. It didn't all get instantly replaced and updated. The "90s" stuff was all shiny and new, like computers and electronics and clothing, but there was a lot of ugly wood paneling and carpet and glass and polyester and shit lying around from the previous generation. All the adults were shellshocked and miserable, only kids wanted to have fun.

There has been an attempt to re-paint the 90s with a lot of gay 2010s hipster nonsense.

You need to remember that the 90s were the age of grunge, gangster rap, alt rock, nuMetal and lots of "Xtreme" and edgelord shit.

It really depends on the school. I went to NEHS, which was ghetto as hell. But the magnet program classes were pretty nice. My friend went to Roman Catholic downtown and visiting it was almost exactly like the show. I would imagine rich Center City residents would have nice schools.

Nope. The 90s didn't look anything like this. A lot of the advertising and the movies looked like this, but this really wasn't reflective of what people and life in the 90s looked like.

It's why pretentious assholes always use this for their "90s design" because they weren't actually alive during the 90s, they're just watching movies and then LARPing in hopes of attracting sales.

In the DoDDs schools in Germany the 90s were more about hip hop shit or grunge than this punk stuff. It was still tapes for making mixed tapes or getting shit off the radio into the 90s. Home computers were fairly rare and I didn't see CD burners till around the same time I saw napster in the mid 90s off at school. So there was overlap, you'd buy a new album on cd but you'd still use your tapes and tape players.

The best decision I made was getting out of the city. Even if you're just 10 feet outside of the city limits, its a night an day difference. I think this is a good start. Groups of people you'd never actually see in the real world all being thrown together blatantly to check various boxes. Those are just coomers that are ashamed to admit they're gooners.

I never looked at the trailer and thought "oh yeah this was the 90s", it's clearly someone's "snowglobe diorama 90s". A post card 90s. A pretty image like when alt-righters post images of idealized 1950s life without all the trouble in the background.

Since that IS the blindspot of ALL nostalgia, good or bad; a filter of the past, without the setbacks and trauma.

I don't miss the Obama troubles and post financial crisis of 2013. But god damn do I remember Daft Punk's last album coming out and cycling into the city with my dad and sister in those gentle summer evenings, seeing people out and about when party culture was still a thing; the streets alive and breathing.

God do I miss those days.

It's all vaguely Ferris Bueller inspired, which is funny because that's an 80's movie, that feels incredibly 80's. Whereas a movie that feels incredibly 90's would be Clerks or Beavis and Butthead do America.

There's endless media available from the 90's on internet archive but I understand that most people are dumb slobs who form their worldview from whatever's new and popular.

>Gaming sure is better in 2026, am I right bros?
This but unironically.
There are games today that I could only dream of as a child. And the volume of games is insane. As a kid I had 10 games and that was it. Right now I have 30 games on my desktop alone. And those are just the ones I want to be accessible.
And we still have access to the old games. But only speedrunners still play them because they kinda suck.

There are plenty of problems with today's games of course, but on the whole we're way better off today than in the 90's.
Oh and games are cheaper too. The big AAA titles are about the same price as the old shit, especially adjusted for inflation, but there's so much good shit you can get for under $30.
>>
>>738667074
Not even close, I grew up in the 90's. As others have said this is just zog propaganda.

I've had about enough memberberries about some suburbanite's bland upbringing. I'm going to write a story about growing up in my shitkicking redneck town, drinking Stag beer and listening to Joe Diffie in my piece of shit Chevy LUV.

It's just the 20th century receding into the past
If you had to make a game set in 1895, it's unlikely you'd be very accurate to things like fashions and social events like bicycles exploding in popularity, the culture of serialised literature, fears of rising anarchism etc
You'd just make a vague melange of 1870-1900 and that's what this is basically
>>
>>738667719
Well yes, but they weren't shoved in everyone's face in media.

AAA is usually a washout tho. But at least there's a vibrant indie scene of all kinds to find at least ONE game per year you'll be sure into.

We have a whole decade of television and videos from the 90's that are right there waiting to be watched though.

Because we zoomers are physically and mentally suffering a hellacious existence. What you used to take for granted would be our precious gold. We were barred from the seminal experiences that older generations were granted for free, therefore stunted heavily to the point of no return. All because this society believed that putting in the trust of our lives into corporations was somehow going to make life better. >b-but what about punks
That one punk in a thousand kids everyone thought was just a mental ill retard with no parents. Even goths were more common.
Even in the 2000s the sideshave troon style didnt exist and was often just a kid coloring their hair without doing a schizo hairstyle on top of it.
My friend did it and that instantly launched him into being bullied by his whole class after being an unseen nerd before that.

You're the one who said Putin pls nuke us out of the blue and then posted his mug. You hate being called out when a few people suspected that Russia were involved with trying to get Ron Paul to run in politics back in 08-2012. Mainly so he would throw the whole election for republicans so that Obama would pick up the victory who was also a favored kremlin candidate. His whole deal was splitting the vote for guarenteed Obama presidency. Even some of his campaigners appeared on Russia Today saying they were doing as much.

I think the saddest thing is that kids are terrified to just be themselves and act like dorky retards now. There's always this lingering fear that they could be recorded and blasted in front of millions or billions of people. It's hard to explain but it's like they're always "on" and never really relax. It has to be hell on their mental health.
