Get the fuck in here. We're ending this debate
>>
>>738667409
sonic 3
>>
>>738667409
World. 3's levels are too short, I don't like speeding through them in a minute
>>
>>738667409
Yoshi's Island
>>
3 is amazing for a Famicom game but doesn't hold up on the SNES
>>
>>738667409
3, the theater theme is kino for a pretentious asshole such as myself.

World is the Oogtar game.
>>
>>738667774
I actually prefer Yoshi's island over Mario World both are still great though. I fucking sucks that Yoshi still hasn't surpassed his first ever solo game
>>
>>738667409
what debate, you can play either at any time, does it fucking matter
>>
both
>>
>>738667409
3. The powerup dropping from the sky on hit is retarded.
>>
>>738667409
I like World more but I played it first.
>>
3 has more soul but world is way more fun
>>
>>738667409
only SMB3fags think there's a debate
>>
Isn't it time to move on from this shit and play better games? You're still struggling to understand mario, this is very lame. I don't want to talk about this shit.
>>
>>738667409
the fuck we are. they're both good. 50/50
>>
>>738669040
>better games
have you seen the state of the Tripple shit gaming industry?
>>
>>738667494
Sonic 2 was better than Sonic 3
>>
>>738667409
Just because they're Mario games, doesn't mean they're entirely comparable.
Both have their strengths and weaknesses, and are both great for different reasons.
>>
>>738669082
There are many games released before AAA existed. You're still playing the same 15 baby games. It doesn't matter how old the game is, a baby game made 30 years ago doesn't retroactively stop being boring and for babies over time. Live a little.
>>
SMB3
>short and sweet levels
>no filler, once a level is done it's done
>cool secret hidden whistles to help you skip around since you can't save
>many unique themes, many of which are not palette swaps
>balanced leaf/tanuki powerup, requires skill to use due to flight limit and the dense level design with not much space to run
>hammer bros suit and tanuki are actually rare and feels rewarding when you get it
>one of the best looking games for the time on the console

SMW
>larger empty levels
>makes you replay large sections of the same level for secret exits
>secret exits that bring you to the end of game in 10 minutes because it's boring, unnecessary due to saving
>hardly any unique themes, most are just palette swaps
>feather/cape lets you fly forever and skip many levels with no effort, easy to start flight due to the empty level design
>feather is everywhere, no rare powerups
>looks like complete shit for a SNES game, mixes different sprite artstyles
>>
>>738667409
nothing to debate

mario 3 is the greatest platformer of all time
>>
>>738669419
This Anon nailed it. I'd also add that 3 has better overworld maps too with more interactivity, and the inventory system is missing from World.
>>
>>738667774
This. Its the goat
>>
I like the cape but its too strong
Mario3 powerups are really damn strong too but nothing is cape tier except explicit skip items like the whistle
>>
>>738669040
Like what?
>>
>>738669040
>>738669328
because games are fun?
>>
>>738669702
It's fun that they brought the tanuki suit and raccoon feather back in the portable 3D games but explicitly nerfed the fucking dogshit out of them to remove their flying
>>
>>738667409
SMB3 for NES and I thought this even as a young 5yo child. Its gameplay and levels are simply funner. I also like the biomes more. SMW starts to feel a lot more samey much sooner. Both games are great of course but SMB3 wins this for me.
>>
>>738669040
>>738669328
Don't you have a shmup thread to roleplay in? You know, the ones where you samefag and pretend you can actually beat one.
>>
>>738667409
I played 3 first, so it feels good to replay the stages. Even sometimes the worlds you'd skip with the whistle have their charm.
But World is something everyone knows. If you spent the extra 20ish bucks for the SNES that came with it, it was a great game. The stages and the secrets and how to get to them became just as fun to uncover as they were in 3.
>>
>>738667409
Mario 3 is the more technically impressive game especially for it's hardware but World just feels better in terms of controls personally and that's one of the most important part of any platformer.
>>
>>738671935
>pretend you can actually beat one.
I post my clears all the time
>>
SMW is more fun to play and has more replayability
>>

World would have been significantly better if it had been a late SNES title. It's too barebones compared to other SNES platformers. It also looks like shit.
>>
>>738669419
I like how you say
>>secret exits that bring you to the end of game in 10 minutes because it's boring
while smb3 lets you warp straight from world 1 to world 8 and you can also finish the game in 10 minutes
>>
>>738669419
>muh useless gimmicky powerups
I how the entire defense of SMB3 comes down this shit, meanwhile Yoshi in SMW is the best powerup in the entire series with many uses and it completely spices up the gameplay.
>>
3 is too hard
>>
>>738672332
>launch title is not as technically impressive as end of console gen titles
woooowww
any other amazing revelations, sonicfag?
>>
>>738672332
>>738672508
Maybe the graphics are a little simple and limited in scope, but the engine is very solid and Lunat Magic proves it, the later better looking platformers don't touch it gameplay wise.
>>
>>738672508
Castlevania and Ghouls n Ghosts came out only a year later.
>>

I prefer 3's shorter, tighter level design and its overall style even in All-Stars. I do appreciate World's overworld map and better implementation of secrets though.
>>
>>738669798
Why do you play so few then
>>
>>738669419
SMB3
>short and shit levels
>no content, once a level is done it's done
>stupud secret hidden whistles to help you skip most of the game since its not fun
>some random themes, some of which are palette swaps
>bland leaf/tanuki powerup, frustrating to use due to flight limit but the dense level design makes it stupidly easy to skip entire levels
>hammer bros suit and tanuki are basically absent from the game and feels pointless if you get it
>2d sprites

SMW
>larger awesome levels
>lets you replay levels to discover secrets and branching paths
>secret exits that let you access alternate routes throughout the game, a cool feature
>some unique themes, many are not just palette swaps
>feather/cape lets you fly a while and is actually suitable for the larger levels
>actually access and use the power ups throughout the game rather than being a desperate cuck with no content
>2d sprites
>>
>>738672508
Oustide of having more colors, it looks worse than 3.
>>
>>738672912
>some unique themes, many are not just palette swaps
you didn't even try with this one
I don't blame you since nintendo didn't either

I'd argue it's the second least impressive launch title.
>>
>>738673064
SMW and F-Zero were the only titles for the original 1990 SFC launch. Everything else came out in the following months.

>>738669419
>SMB3
>>short and sweet levels
Unmemorable and easy because of how short they are.
>>no filler, once a level is done it's done
Replayability is "filler" now, got it
>>many unique themes, many of which are not palette swaps
Same for SMW? It just has more levels within each "theme".
>>balanced leaf/tanuki powerup, requires skill to use due to flight limit and the dense level design with not much space to run
Cape requires significantly more skill than tanuki.
>>hammer bros suit and tanuki are actually rare and feels rewarding when you get it
And yet boil down to small novelties because they're so rare, you only get to use them a couple times throughout the entire game.
>>one of the best looking games for the time on the console
Not even close lmao

>SMW
>>larger empty levels
Larger, yes, "empty", no.
>>makes you replay large sections of the same level for secret exits
God forbid you have to actually play the game.
>>secret exits that bring you to the end of game in 10 minutes because it's boring, unnecessary due to saving
Strange how this is a negative for SMW, but "warp whistles that let you skip worlds" is a positive for SMB3.
>>hardly any unique themes, most are just palette swaps
Objectively false
>>feather/cape lets you fly forever and skip many levels with no effort, easy to start flight due to the empty level design
Also objectively false. Someone actually looked into this and found that only about 20% of levels in the entire game can be "skipped" like this.
>>feather is everywhere, no rare powerups
What isn't "everywhere" are the different colored yoshis. SMW has more powerups and you get to actually fucking use them since they're not super rare.
>>looks like complete shit for a SNES game, mixes different sprite artstyles
You're comparing a launch title to a game that was released almost 6 years after its platform. Retard.
>>
File: smw map.png (3.07 MB, 1600x1146)
3.07 MB PNG
The SMW overworld is fully connected in a logical way instead random separated levels and worlds, it makes you feel more immersed into the game world and the heavy focus on secrets makes you feel like you could go anywhere and you want to explore everything.
>>
SMB3 is superior
>>
3
>>
I like 3's levels and World's bosses
>>
File: SMW.jpg (402 KB, 1920x1080)

SMB3 suck the dick of the game for having a gimmicky power up in one level, but competely ignore meaningful gameplay improvements like being able to launch turtle shells upwards or use them as a buoy to swim faster which have applications during the whole game.

yuck!
>>
>>738667409
3 is more memorable, World is still the more enjoyable replay though. Also the GBA remasters are the definitive way to play the classics
>>
World is snappier, feels better, looks better, and has more fun levels.
>>
>>738669040
Name 1 game
>>
>Dinosaur Land
>barely any dinosaur enemies

but 3 is more fun

Yeah and they look worse and are full of slowdowns.
