Holy shit, the Arwing is fucking HUGE.

The proportions on Fox still look weird.
>>
the arwings are supposed to be actually huge. they put em up in hangars like planes. also yes I do not like hyperrealistic fox. starfox assault is probably the best design.

Was it ever explained why he had 2 auxiliary seats in each wing and why there's air in space?

This is an F-15. It looks kind of small and cute without a size comparison. But it is fucking huge.
>>

I would be all over this if it wasn't for a remake

So they just place the Arwing on its own frame and wings without any kind of legs or wheels to support it on the ground?

It only had that design for Adventure.

Huge
>>
for those of you who want krystal, faye and miyu how exactly would you incorporate them into levels? Like assume we still have the same game play but instead of 3 other wingmen you have 6 of them out there with you, as are as effects on your gameplay only Slippy has done that throughout the series, falco finds different paths for you on some levels while peppy is the help option, what use in a setting like this could the three ladies provide to you in the field? ROB even has the free power up function
>>
>>738695219
>The other games they looked and felt like things that can actually fly in the sky
None of them look even remotely close to being feasibly aerodynamic. If anything, Assault's Arwing leans into the G-Diffuser being the thing actually keeping these craft in the sky.
>>
>>738695972
Swap wing mates. Each mission you choose which you want on your team and they all have different dialogue. Wingmates still recover health in between missions but they fully recover and get like a bonus or something if you voluntarily let them rest between missions.
>>
>>738695972
Primarily play as the classic 4, but maybe every other level you play as a guest character on a solo mission or something.
>>
>>738691397
I remember the ship scales were huge too in Assault, only in Adventure the proportions were wonky

Great Fox is still too small. To fit all four Arwings in a row side to side, along with the Landmaster and Blue Marine, and all of the parts and tools to maintain them, along with the engines, weapon systems, shield generators, crew quarters, storage for food and drinks and clothes and other needs, it would need to be around the size of the Enterprise-D.

Giving the player a shitty ending on the first playthrough by default is seriously one of the most baffling and fucked up decisions ever. You're basically telling the player "Fuck you, play it again" and thinking that they will, and not just turn the game off and never play it ever again, or just sell it. It doesn't matter how short a game is, if the player doesn't like it and considers it a slog to get through, the likelihood of them sticking around is next to zero, and that's even if they bother to beat the game in the first place. If I got an ending like that on my first playthrough, I'd never touch it again after that.
>>
>>738691397
This promo render epitomizes the apathetic feel of this remake to me. The people making this don't think it's cool and they don't give a shit. The person who designed the arwing didn't think about landing gear and the person who composited this image didn't question it and make something else. It's kidslop and they want to go home.

I think the thing I dislike the most about it is that it's not only inconsistent, but it's barely even attempting to be digitigrade. Fox's legs are just too short so he looks really stubby, and Falco's proportions feel off. He looks more like a dork with bad posture now instead of the hot-headed ace pilot that used to belong to a biker gang.

they can always explain the lack of landing gear with some anti-gravity techno mumbo. maybe the arwing isnt balancing on those blue diamond pieces and is actually hovering just above the ground.
i don't mean to sound like i'm covering the multi-billion dollar company's ass, but this is star fox's formal re-introduction to normies outside the mario movie. its no surprise they want to play it safe by straight remaking 64. also regarding the realistic new aesthetic, i think they're terrified of looking anything like star fox zero which went for an HD 64 style. that, or they want star fox to follow in the metroid revival's steps and cater the series towards adults more.

Also, while we're talking about the Great Fox's size. In Brawl, It's severely small, compared to the Halberd. Kirby's canonically 8" tall, which would make the height of Halberd's main body somewhere between 28 - 32 feet tall, excluding the bridge. The Arwing, itself, is huge, compared the Halberd's Combo Cannon, and Sakurai expects us to believe the Great Fox to be smaller? My ass!
>>
>>738703507
Ran really well, except when I absolutely had to use the separate Gamepad view, dunno if it was my 5700x3D, it's probably just that it's hard to emulate, it dropped my FPS to 45ish.
Don't know about mods, I powered through it, since I'm a gyro defender I actually enjoyed it for the most part.
However I do agree Nintendo should've added controller configuration, whether it's button remapping or disabling gyro, but Shitendo being the way they are, they think they're always right.

As much as I dislike Command I think it was a good idea that each pilots arwing had different stats and I think unlocking more characters ingame could unlock ships with more interesting abilities.

Fox: The balanced ship
Falco: Upgraded lasers
Katt: Agility. You can dodge a fatal hit twice.
Peppy: Barrel roll reflects shots
Slippy: Slow auto repair
Krystal: Telepathy. You see outlines of hidden ships. Includes ships hidden by cloaking too.
Wolf: Enhanced boost (also does damage)
Leon: Temporary Cloaking
Panther: Higher speed
Pigma: Increased bomb capacity
Andrew: Radar Jamming

Need ideas for Miyu and Fay

It's baffling this thing didn't get a Starfox, that it just skipped this generation entirely. The time the system pushes a gimmick that would organically elaborate on series conventions, basically the one gimmick in Zero that generally works very well, the motion aiming to let you move and shoot independently, and it gets zilch. At least we got a new Sin and Punishment.

Speaking of moving and shooting independently, is that a thing in the remake? They describe mouse controls, but it looks like it's just replacing the analog stick, and then there's co-op where it's one sideways joycon for movement + the aiming joycon. Obviously someone doing it themselves would be holding a joycon vertically, but is that even an option?

Not him, and been years. But it's really not that fucking bad.
Just aim using the gamepad 90% of the time. As the initial trailer and direct on it stated. Arwing flys well, you can hit near 180 degree shoots on each side and top and bottom.
Landermaster's new gravmaster mode was cool.
Walker mode I think was a tad awkward but been years.
I do wish more people discussed Guard because it's a bloody fucking fantastic tower defense game.

I've always had such a hard time playing N64 on anything that isn't an N64 due to the controller differences that I bought the NSO N64 controller for the Switch NSO. I'll definitely use it for this remake too whenever I'm not doing mouse controls.

As an example, old muscle memory was so bad that I could never get used to the ocarina buttons in OoT3D and MM3D.

You're right on (3D) Mario since Bowser's Fury was not a full game, but if you're counting TP as a Wii Zelda, then the Switch 1 got three of them (BotW, ToTK and EoW) so it balances out. Both got a Prime and a main series Metroid.

What drives me nuts remembering Sin & Punishment is that Star Successor's control scheme was mostly fuckin' excellent stuff for a rail shooter. Now we're a couple generations later, the Switch 2 still doesn't have any support for an IR system again and entirely relies on gyro instead, and a relatively similar control scheme in the SF64 remake is.. mouse mode only. Like, it took seventeen fucking years for a Nintendo exclusive to do this again and it's Joycon Mouse bullshit on a game that never needed it and isn't balanced for it.

I have a theory. The game's vehicles are all numbered.
First you have the Arwings:
>01 - James
>02 - Peppy
>03 - Pigma
>04 - Fox
>05 - Slippy
>06 - Falco
Then it goes to the Blue Marine
>07
And finally the Landmaster
>12
Where are vehicles 08-11? This game has a ton of attention to detail, so this does not seem like an oversight.
We know the first digit is not a category, as the Blue Marine is literally just numbed plainly after the Arwings.
I think the Star Fox team may get upgraded Arwings (Arwing II?) at some point.
The Japanese website has the cutscene of Star Wolf showing up on Finchina in their usual Wolfens.
But in Battle Mode, the enemy Star Wolf players are actually flying the upgraded Wolfen II ships, oddly.
I do not know when or how they will get the new Arwing versions, maybe for subsequent playthroughs?
We know that Nintendo has more to show with the game. Once scene suggests there could be a model viewer.
So maybe we will be able to choose which version of the Arwing and Wolfen we want to use for multiplayer?
>>
>>738702345
What do you mean? The point was that peace had basically led to Star Fox having jack shit for jobs and burning through their reserves.
>>
>>738714409
Kojima came up with the idea called 'details.'
>>
>>738714409
That valley going down the arwing's nose has to serve a purpose. No idea what it could be though. But I do love how the G-Diffusers give off a fuck ton of heat so they have to open them up like they do.
>>
>>738714409
It would be cool if they were not just a bonus but were included in the story. They could have them ready for the hard mode Venom route right before the rematch with Star Wolf. No need to change anything about the level design so it would work within the apparent confines of this remake.
>>
>>738714541
Have they released the original concept art of the Arwings for the original SNES Star Fox? Most of their design conceits are funnily similar to the constraints that birthed the F-117, as both of them needed their shapes rendered on extremely primitive 3D software.

Not quite, there were also more complex designs with swept edges in contention, but ultimately Have Blue won the arguments and went to the model testing phase.

the only way we're ever gonna see Miyu, Faye and Krystal ever again is if Miyamoto is serious about Star Fox for once instead of using the series s testing ground for certain things, 64 was the testing ground for nintendo games having voice acting, it's the most dialogue heavy game on the N64, Adventures was it's' own thing before they decided to use Star Fox for it to test out yet another engine, Assault was to test interest in the series in general and to try and get in on the 2000s edgelord craze where guns, sex appeal and mild swearing were all the rage, even Sonic wasn't immune to that see shadow the hedgehog, then came command on the DS, effectively a swan song for the franchise as they didn't know where to take the series, interest was at a low and Krystal was wildly despised for her sex appeal and replacing Peppy as the fourth pilot and bringing the furries into the limelight, they straight up admitted the game was effectively concepts they at best and a cheap cash grab at worse. Star Fox died there as a continuity, ever since then Miyamoto has decided that if Star Fox is to be used they have to sell it with the only profitable game it had, 64, so they constantly use 64's story, for the 3DS, for the WiiU and now for the Switch 2 because it's the only time star fox turned a profit for them kinda like how if gold and silver flopped Pokemon would just endlessly recycle the same 150 pokemon and kanto over and over and over again only, instead they still do that AND do new pokemon too because of massive profits.

This game will be ass but they're banking on 64 kanto and Fox's successful reception in the mario movie to sell this piece of shit.
>>
>>738716170
I feel the choice of remaking 64 was made in part simply to give the game a short development cycle and have it out early on in the Switch 2's life. You can tell from the visuals that it most likely isn't a game that started on Switch 1 like MKW and DKB. And yeah, they've been trying and failing to reboot the series since the past decade so this is yet another attempt.
>>
starfox 64 was such an incredible game
>>
what was it that made assault so hated?

was it the story and how seriously it took itself?
was it krystal replacing peppy and even using his arwing?
was it fox being rather melocalic and pensive compared to his usual hot shot self?
was it the passage of time showing just how old peppy, pepper and the star fox team in general have grown between 64 and now?
was it star wolf being down to 3 members because Pigma got kicked out and Andrew tried to succeed Andross and failed and died in the first level?
Was it because the ground combat, standing on wings and shooting segments were these sandbox maps with annoying enemies?
Was it the OST?

It truly was and is. I've only come back to it recently with the PC port, since playing it way back nonstop in middle school, and it absolutely blows my mind how great it is, especially being able to play it now with sharper graphics, a larger screen, etc.

We were blessed with that recent recomp and I'm glad I got to experience both the OG and the port in my life time. I don't need other Star Fox games if they're not in the realm of 64, which is the only one I've played.

Fuck off, non-Arwing segments are shit. The Landmaster gets a pass for having two good levels and (mostly) controlling the same. Aquas is boring and we don't need more chicken walker style bullshit.
I am in favor of more stages. If they were hiding a sort of hidden "second game" you unlock by completing every map + Hard Venom that would be kino.
>>
>>738708832
It's kinda good, but the forced gyro with the gamepad for aiming has a pretty annoying learning curve. The on-screen reticle is kinda off so when you aim at stuff, you'll miss, unless you look at the gamepad so you have to glance between the gamepad and tv all the time.
Unfortunately, it doesn't really work that well. Aside from that SFZero is a pretty well made game that sold extremely poorly because it was released only on Wii U and right at the tail end of the console's lifespan where nobody cared about it any more.

looks kind of stupid, doesn't it?
I don't think SNES Star Fox ever showed parked Arwings.
SNES Star Fox 2 introduced the chicken walker thing which is obviously pure fantasy.
Star Fox 64 showed the Arwings in a hangar on some sort of suspended launch rail thing. I don't think Arwings were ever depicted grounded in that game, either.
Starting with Adventures, the Arwing was depicted as VTOL capable, basically like an X-Wing. it had some shock absorbers underneath the cockpit and a piece of landing gear that deployed from underneath the nose, also very similar to an X-Wing. it might be present in the 2026 design but we can't see the nose in the OP pic.

>>
>>738723217
>Localization name change
It's Krazoa in Japanese.

It's a goofy idea, but it follows through with the rest of the game. Krystal's arc in Command is that she cares about Fox, but her ability to read minds is ironically making her cold because she's sensitive to hypocrisy. She wants to be with him, but he pushed her away and, in a few routes, is just being a selfish little cunt of a man. She's trying to define herself in spite of her situation. The Kursed ending is just showing that pushing Fox away entirely is just going to cause her more pain and eventually doubling down will lead to her shutting everyone out and becoming miserable.

It wouldn't be so bad if Nintendo had actually kept putting out games instead of leaving Star Fox to die on the vine during the Wii era. There should be like 15 Star Fox games at this point but Nintendo treats ever single one like it has to get 64's sales or the franchise goes on hiatus. The highest selling Star Fox game since 64 is still Adventures which means the "keep remaking 64" strategy isn't even working.

Pretty much. I'm probably repeating myself ITT, but I genuinely believe that the critical reception towards Command is likely the reason why Miyamoto has been incredibly hands-on to the point of seeming like an overbearing parent on the series, and in doing so, he's just hindering progress on the series. I really don't think it would even be that big of a deal to people if they brought back all of these characters in a new game without trying so hard to properly introduce them to people. But we're at a point currently with media in general where you need origin stories or people don't seem to care about new characters, or they feel lost.

The Goodbye Fox ending is legitimately a fantastic ending to the series and IIRC, is the only route where you assemble the boys together one last time
>>
>>738716749
Assault is right up there with 64 for me. Adventures and Command suck ass though.
>>
>>738731516
The Goodbye Fox ending is the only one with Peppy back, but it's treated as a surrender to old comforts and not solving anything. You only get it if Fox acts selfishly with Krystal but looks out for Peppy. It's the ending where his treatment of Krystal is made parallel to Peppy's treatment of Lucy, where the Girls ending acknowledges there's a rift that needs mending through honest discussion for both pairs. Instead of actually dealing with the issue, Fox gives up his responsibilities to have Krystal be his housewife, LARPing as James when he's unwilling to make hard choices like his dad did. His and his friends' children are locked in the cycle and have to clean up his mess.

It's a Bad End and it's crazy to me that people don't see it.

Also the shared time limit between missions is awful too. At least you can kill yourself to get more time.

>>
>>738731279
A lot of things can just fucking kill you if you disassemble them incorrectly. This isn't a sci-fi concept.
>>
>>738733102
Huh. That sounds like V4. Might be V3 or it behaving weirdly on 3DS since the screen doesn't map 1:1? I know it's a little finnicky on Melon, and both vanilla and modded hit "dead" spots on my DSiXL sometimes from the upscaled screen. But the normal places for grabbing this kinda thing should have V4 by default.

Because the people writing the following SF games didn't bother giving her any character other than "the girl". Blows my mind because even just the one paragraph of background from Adventures gives you a couple of points to jump from.

>Last survivor of a destroyed culture from outside of the Lylat system, confirming other inhabited systems exist
>Andross probably had something to do with it, likely before the events of previous SF games
>btw magic powers are real in the SF setting

She also gets hers staff back and immediately starts blasting, which I respect.

>She also gets hers staff back and immediately starts blasting, which I respect.
In hindsight, it makes perfect sense she was down to join a mercenary group.
>>
>>738735897
The problem is that even with as little focus as she got, the series was turning into The Krystal Report. It's really hard to balance depth with intentionally simple characters and short story segments.
>>
Star Fox should have ended with a game where the gang finds Krystal’s people, stop Star Wolf from raiding their holy temples for magic gems, and Fox leaves the team to go be Krystal’s husband as she assumes the role of Queen of the blue vixen aliens.

Basically, they should have done Atlantis, but where Milo isn’t a bitch.

here's where it gets weird
Star Fox Command and Star Fox 3D were made by Q-games, a studio started by Dylan Cuthbert, he's a westerner, but his studio is based in Japan and is staffed by Japanese people. Command was written in Japanese first and was localized into English later. I can see why you would consider them western, but to me I see them as Japanese, because I don't know if Cuthbert's influence is enough to classify them as western games.

At first glance I thought it was supposed to be James's hand print next to child Fox's hand print, which would be really cute. But they actually look like two different species.

I think it's something to do with protecting the product and the brand, when the motivation should ideally be to make kino for kino's sake. With cohesive interaction between narrative and gameplay, you make something that needs to be experienced to get the full effect. If Sakurai didn't want people leaking cutscenes, he should make them less important and not missing entirely. Like I'm not experiencing the microwave hallway from MGS4 unless I'm hurting my thumb. Kind of an egregious example, but you know what I mean Gamer™.

Perhaps this was because my last SF experience beforehand was Assault, but it surprised me how unafraid Zero was to kick the player in the balls with its time limits and resource scarcity if the player didn't learn to git good with the controls. And those controls indeed have a learning curve that was difficult to adjust to at first, but acceptable once you get into the swing of things; still wouldn't chose them over 64s, having to constantly swap screen focus gets old over the course of a playthrough.
The helicopter sections plain sucked though, especially when leg mode already gave you a means to slow down the pacing. I think it should be carried over into future games.

Star Fox as a team are literally broke because the system is at peace. It's not inspiration from whatever, they literally can't find work to have their planes worked on, yes, planes IRL need constant weekly maintenance too. Planes like the F-22 raptors need work done on them every four days. This is why Slippy became the mechanic.
>>
>>738750345

My thing is that Star Fox was so integral at saving Corneria they should have been included in the Cornerian defense budget and put on long term contract.
>>
>>738750672
Even if they just grafted on a whole 'nother setting to the setting, Assault does a good job showing that a single planet can sustain a campaign all on its own. It only even became a high-stakes solar affair at the very end when Andross showed up.
>>
>>738750684
He kinda killed it with Command's multiple endings; the only option now was to recreate Starfox ether as a 64 remake or a retelling like with Zero.

Well, Miyamoto personally has it out for the concept of story in video games, so I guess we'll see if the rumors of an Adventures-styled game come to fruition. The sad part is there's a lot you can do with the setting, but they've been remaking the same game for a decade and a half now.

>>738750824
Command was meant to be alt universe/timeline shit anyway, you can easily pick it back up if you gave it to a writer that genuinely cared.

StarFox are really not Mercs, that's some new thing from the most recent remake. Star Wolf are the mercs. Star Fox was originally called "a team for hire" for the Cornerian Military. Being an actual merc breaches multiple laws to the point you need an active hideout on the edge of Lylat.

Based if true. The landmaster/blue marine or, may Allah forgive me, the chicken walker are already bad enough but they're fine for one-off missions for variety. On foot is just trash and should never go beyond a meme unlock for multiplayer.
>>
>>738751209

It's about the size I'd expect, maybe even a little small for a jet. Fox knows Falco would never put up with rank, discipline, or pomp and circumstance of the army.
Peppy probably has his own reasons he's never going back to the military. He feels like he used to be more of a rigid military guy but something changed the trajectory of his life. (James or Pigma)
Slippy... I don't know. The original source material makes it kinda questionable how he ever even made the team. He's described as unreliable but hard to dislike. I suspect he became one of Fox's best friends at a pivotal time in Fox's life, and is just good enough an engineer to hold his seat in the unit. Would probably actually do just fine in a uniform.

I really dig Assault's Arwing. Favorite out of the core series.
Starlink's take actually really appealed to me, like you can see Assault's DNA there. Pic rel is a really cool revision someone made a while back that I fell in love with. It just appeals to me.
Command is up there since the example from the pic was of Peppy's and James's Arwings, which were based on Assault's.
After that you have the 2026 Arwing, which I really dig as well. Really excited to fly it in the new game.
Then you have the SNES ones, where are admittedly harder to judge since they are just pixels, but overall I like the shape.
The classic styled N64 ones I never found super appealing. The 64 3D one was the worst of that trio. 2026 gets a pass because the art style gives it a very different look.
Finally, Adventures. I just really dislike the worn-down look of it and the super long nose.

Command's Arwing II from my post I would rank between 2026 and Command's Assault Arwing variant.

None of them are bad. Just the SF64-styled ones were always just "okay" at best for me.
