Is it still the best of all time?
>>
Not even the best of the year it released
>>
Yes, and absolutely. I was actually shocked on my last playthrough how much *better* so many things were than I actually remembered them being.

It was sort of surreal, because the best parts of the game were more or less exactly as good as I remember them being, but there were just so many minor details and things that stood out in ways that they didn't when I first played it years ago. Like, getting the bombs is incredible when you're vaguely aware of just how much stuff in the accessible world is opened up by that, but don't know/recall all the exact things that are bombable. Story wise, the scene where Zelda call out to you through her message from the Temple of Time is much more impactful when you're aware that her father is likely dead at this point.

It's just an incredible experience all round and the remake has every potential to blow every modern game out of the water.

Severely overrated and its nostalgia goggles. I'd say HALFLIFE 2 is up there since tech wise it STILL holds up. And the source engine feels barely aged
>>
>>738700293
it never was. it is overrated dogshit that aged like milk. 100% of its popularity and fame are due to the novelty of it at the time, and the nostalgia for it.
>>
This is the #1 "you had to be there when it came out" video game of all time.
>>
>>738701614
This is a giant meme. Anyone is free to play it at any time and see what's so great about it, and it holds up because it was massively more advanced than what was coming out at the time and in most aspects was hardly even matched for a decade.
>>
>>738700293
Never was, still a good game that could be the favorite one for a kid

I am so stoked for this remake to come out, and everyone to unanimously conclude the original is completely outdated and totally irrelevant.
>>
Why do tendie shills hate every nintendo game that isn't currently being marketed (the more different it is from the current game, the more they hate it)?
>>
>>738701740
>it holds up because it was massively more advanced than what was coming out at the time
anon really said that it continues to hold up just because it was slightly ahead of other things AT THE TIME. its really incredible how these clowns have literally never grown up.
>and in most aspects was hardly even matched for a decade.
it was not only surpassed, but mogged within like 3 or 4 years.
>>
>>738700293
The older I get the more I think, yeah, it might actually be. Definitely the best thing Nintendo ever produced, at the very least.
>>
>>738701779
same. if its the same old game with a fresh graphical coat of paint, it will be incredibly dull and lackluster, and people will realize how empty and dogshit it is. if they completely remake the game into something new, only keeping the core plot and dungeon themes, it will showcase how outdated and irrelevant the original is and how far games have actually come.

>AT THE TIME
Which was fucking 1998, AKA the best year for games ever. There's still tons of shit released around that time that mogs most shit now, and OoT was the best of it all.

calling zoomers smart, or at least calling oot zealots dumber than zoomers, sure is a bold statement.
>>
you lot must still be stuck in console war or gamefaq popularity poll eras, one side has no need to shill real hard and the other has no need to overcorrect with all-consuming hatred
at least rei v asuka fags are being riled up once in a while by eva being a crossover whore franchise, but you niggers are literally stranded out of time with these """arguments""" jesus fucking christ
>>
>>738703714
Please give examples of shit that matched it in that timeframe. GTA for instance always had a gimmicky open world with limited meaningful shit to do and weak missions, it was praised a ton for its novelty but really doesn't hold up compared to Zelda. OoT just has amazing design in so many aspects and the worst people can come up with is stuff like "it doesn't have voice acting", which isn't a problem if you're not illiterate.

>OoT just has amazing design in so many aspects and the worst people can come up with is stuff like "it doesn't have voice acting"
lmao you genuinely believe that that is "the worst" shortcoming that people can come up with? sorry, but its really not worth listing great games that hold up better (and generally mog) if you're going to be THIS retarded and disingenuous. by denying facts this hard, you illustrate that you arent even interested in honest conversation. you display willful ignorance. you're nothing but a zealot, as proven by your actions.
>>
>>738704801
You never give actual examples though, and always give the same excuses.
>>
>>738705248
you never actually listen to facts or think critically though, and always give the same empty glaze.

quite literally, all you do is prove my point. it isnt even necessary to go into deeper detail when you act like this. you lost before it even started.
>>
No, Majora's Mask is
>>
OoT of time literally pioneered several aspects of third person gameplay that are still I used today, so even if you think it's bad, your favorite game owes it's existence to it.
>>
>>738707049
and oot owes its existence to pong. the fuck is your point?
>>
>>738707224
OOT is as important to videogames as Pong. Glad that's understood.
>>
>>738700293
Nope, TotK is better.
>>
>>738707402
it really isnt. oot provided... lock on (and wasnt even the first, just a better version). there were plenty of other 3d games before oot. good job being a disingenuous faggot though!

You've made like 5 posts and actually haven't listed a single thing wrong with OoT yet.
If you aren't even gonna try don't expect people to just blindly agree with you
>>
>>738710635
slow, empty, brainless puzzles, AWFUL combat, constant interruptions, utterly hideous, horns sound like farts through a kazoo, and the list goes on.
>>
>>738710929
Most of those are just skill issues
>>
>>738711959
thank you for proving me correct. i accept your concession.
>>
>>738700293

I mean, I think it's legendary but I don't consider it to be #1. I think even some games of the same franchise are better, like LTTP. It's up there for sure though, I'd probably put it in my top 10.

Totk have better dungrons and gameplay so no
>>
It's not perfect (some puzzles underestimate how people would adapt to 3D space), but I can't think of many action-adventure games that can compete with its overall pacing.

I didn't play the game in full until 2012, so it's not nostalgia talking. I do think it's that good. I also think a remake would be a waste for the same reasons every video game remake is (yes, even REmake and Zero Mission and whatever else).
>>
>>738710929
>slow
One of the best paced games of all time. tiktok ruined your brain
>Constant interruptions
What the fuck are you smoking. Compared to modern games OoT barely interupts at all. What a fucking insane claim
>>
>>738700293
It didn't even surpass LttP
>>
>>738712961
>pacing
plot and event pacing is not the same as gameplay speed. how passive enemies are, and how long it takes to push a block is astronomically slower than better games.
>interruptions
and yes, the needlessly long interruptions of text boxes that you've already seen or "oh no, the doors are locked!" are abundant. bitching about "modern games" when such a term encompasses literally thousands of games is further proof that you're a willfully ignorant and disingenuous retard.
>>
Just played it again recently and the Ocarina itself feels so good to use. My only real gripe is that Epona jumping the fences barely works, though it’s possible that was a 1.0 issue. Malon owes me sex/10
>>
>>738713378
>disingenuous retard
You are the one acting belligerent. Just because your brain has been pussy whipped into a 8 second attention span doesn't retroactively ruin any media from before that time. Especially not for those who are still able to focus on things
>>
>>738713378
>how passive enemies are
This is legitimately the single biggest and more serious flaw the game has. This I'll give you completely, as the fact that the game is still as good as it is despite this is actually impressive. Fix this and you correct most of the game's actual issues that aren't nothing burgers.

>"oh no, the doors are locked!"
Like this. Navi usually doesn't even bring this shit up unless you ask her deliberately.
>>
The more I'm playing Twilight Princess, the more I'm realizing that the LTTP principle of "simpler can be better at times" people use for it against OoT, can be applied tenfold in OoT against TP. So many unskippable scenes showcasing exactly how to work the next step of the puzzle, story emphasis that can drag on for ages and slow progression of text boxes just to match their timing to characters speaking, comedic amounts of padding for the sake of story, and Link handling like a fucking brick shit house with floaty attacks on the move to both allow for Wiimote actions and "enhance" him yet feels so sluggish and delayed.
I already can get hooked on yet another OoT playthrough if I'm not careful but goddamn this just makes me appreciate what I took for granted all these years.
>>
OoT MM and TP is the best game trilogy of all time
>>
>>738713923
>>738714051
im not talking about navi's optional shit, im talking about the doors locking behind you and the game has to hold and really let you know what happened. or the fact that chests takes so much longer than other games. or the fact that game has to bring up multiple text boxes just to tell you how to use bombs EVERY TIME. or the fact that even pushing blocks is slower than most other games entirely. traversal is not only slow, its EMPTY without things threatening or worth engaging with.

as kids with no bank of experience to compare to, and 3d in general being so new to us, we didnt really have standards yet, so we just took what we could get and were amazed. the problem is that most of you never grew up or developed standards, and instead hold on to oot and the feelings it gave you, since it got you through your parent's divorce. anyone with two braincells to rub together to make a critical thought can instantly recognize how primitive oot (and pretty much everything on the n64) is, and how it aged like milk.

like the game, have you fun, consider it a favorite, but christ fuck just be honest about it and stop pretending like it actually holds up.
