>game forces you to use certain party members
what is the worst example of this?
>>
>>738709781
ff6 and 9's forced party segments were pure cancer
>>
Lost Odyssey.
Disk 3 mandates you use Cooke and Mack, two of the worst party members in the entire game that you have likely not even had in your party once since unlocking them (Unless you knew about the Silver Kelelon farming via Mack), to traverse a segment where they get one-shot for about half an hour until you reconnect with Ming and I think Sarah? If you haven't used them ever by that point you have to stay at the save point, pray you get a random encounter with one of the ice spider things, and pray Mack kills it instantly on his turn or one of them dies every time. Then you slowly grind out levels until you can finally progress through the trains until you can beat the mandatory three or four spider encounter outside of the cave.

Cooke is a white mage so she's useless the entire time until you stop getting one-shot.
Mack is a gambler so his damage is all random chance and also based around his stats so even high rolls don't do much.
>>
Rogue Galaxy's final boss forces you into a series of 1v1s with every party member.

I hate that KH2 final fight forces you to be only with Riku

>>

I think VI and XIII are the absolute worst FFs in terms of forcing you to use certain party members that you don't want to be using. VI and XIII are a lot alike in all the worst ways.
>>
>>738709781
recently 7 and rebirth, I hate playing as aerith and the game keeps forcing you to use this bitch
>>
>>738710332
I liked training Beyd. I played this a few times as a kid and I always looked forward to it.
>>
>>738710167
I remember this garbage, I never used the kids up to this point because everyone else was so much cooler or thematically appropriate (Kaim fighting with his wife etc).
>>
>>738710167
>Tripfaggot attention whore is shit at video games
That section is not even slightly difficult and his damage is not random
>>
>>738710167
I had leveled mack because he had some defensive buff that was super good. that segment and boss was still pretty fucking hard.
>>
>>738710618
>his damage is not random
Some of his skills are random damage, especially if you don't have the newer stuff he gets from level ups unlocked. He has like one skill that lets him do some decent damage but it requires two hits to kill a spider when using it, so you have to win the coin flip that it kills Cooke until Mack can survive a hit and then start power leveling Cooke with it.

The fact that two other people remember and back me up on this shows it's a bad segment and you clearly leveled both of them beforehand because I used Mack for a few Silver Kelelons and was still getting one-tapped for like 15-20 minutes.
>>
>>738710014
I like how in 9 everyone is unique. But it takes too long for everyone to get together.

Yeah it's really bad about that. I'm even an oldfag and I don't know why people have such strong nostalgia for it.
>>

Years later after replaying FF8, I realized you could just melt all the boss by just spamming limit breaks. No need to even Junction. The game is actually more fun this way with Squall and Zell's limit breaks.

It's odd that that segment sucks so much since the boss allegedly scales with Kimahri's stats. I guess it's just a pain in the ass regardless of the scaling.

>>
>>738711857
>That section isn't difficult at all
No one is saying it's difficult. We're saying that if you didn't grind levels on them you literally get one-shot by the spiders so you're stuck there for a while farming these things until they can survive and finally move on.
>>
>>738710921
At least the later releases have the ability to easily swap junctions. The original Japanese doesn't.

Pathfinder games making me bring an unleveled nigger companion to a quest because it's related to them.
Yes I could kill them or ignore the quest but my completionist ass and the item rewards make me unable to do it.
At least there's a mod to make the game wokeless and turn the niggers into white people and change their voices
>>
>>738709781
You know, if you can't use a certain character, then you are shit at playing the game, no?
Should a game only present you with challenges you like?
>>
>>738710741
>It's the game's fault I didn't level up these characters see other people agree with me
The only slightly challenging part was the boss and I played the game the way the game wanted me to play. It's not like you have much freedom with team building until near endgame anyway. If you mentioned that fight with the soldiers as being bullshit I would have agreed with you.
>>
>>738712197
>It's the game's fault I didn't level up these characters
There was no point. Both Cooke and Mack were garbage mortals at the time they are unlocked, you are still currently trying to learn things from Jansen who is useful for basically everyone since he uses black magic, you don't want to remove your three or four immortals (I can't remember if Sarah has joined at that point) and only Sarah really benefits from Cooke at all. Mack in particular has skills that don't serve any purpose for any immortal, they are all genuinely terrible to use unless you are specifically rolling the dice on Silver Kelelons.
>>
>>738712062
nta but the issue is entirely dependant on context.
Does the game have auto leveling equalizer when benched characters level up passively? If so then not really a issue, bit jarring, but managable. If the game doesn't have auto leveling equalizer then it feels like a donkey punch like Kimahri segment in Mt. Gagazet. You're screwed over by something you didn't saw coming because you didn't bothered to press defend once each random encounter with Kimahri. People cant be really blamed for it because Kimahri is... well... kinda useless in FFX. He's supposed to be a blue mage archetype but that only happens when he uses his Overdrive and onlytime that happens is if you fill it up by using lancet on every enemy and happen to run into one that gives him a new overdrive. It also doesn't help that he doesn't have any active usable abilities on his non-existant sphere grid path like other characters and there isn't an enemy type that you want to in-combat swap and use him on. It's not unusual for Kimahri to be severely underleveled in your average playthrough if you go into the game blind.

Suikoden 1
>>
>>738709781
Suikoden has a lot of these
In Suikoden 1 you're forced to use a certain party member for a duel, and if you don't level them up or upgrade their weapon they will easily lose and will actually permanently die.
In Suikoden 2 AND 3 one of the bosses you fight needs 3 different party members of 6 people, if you're only using the same characters all game some of the roster in those parties will be under leved which makes the boss fight harder, if not impossible to win without going back and do some level grinding for those other characters.
>>
>>738709781
Dark Cloud have some stages where you're forced to only use a single character, if you're only playing as the MC for the majority of the game (like me) you can easily get fucked over by those stages. Thankfully in Dark Cloud 2 there's an item that can remove the character limitation in those stages.
>>
>>738721210
I feel what matters is the context, like IIRC >>738710167 is right after a disc-change pretty long after the party split up with gameplay segments witout them and had some Points of no Return, If a game conditions you by doing it frequently from the start or if does it right at the end in a "This is the Final Boss, Use Everyone!" thing i don't think it is as "Worst".

Digital Devil Saga 2 hits you with a crazy fight with Abaddon relatively early in the game.
People talk about Matador in SMT3 but Abaddon is way worse.
Cycling resistances including null physical just as a fuck you to the MC who is likely running a physical build. Can eat party members to take them out of battle. Hits hard and has a high crit chance (meaning he gets extra turns). Knows all elemental spells and will go after party weaknesses (meaning gets extra turns) and just to top it all off you have to fight him with Ciello, a character you will not have been using unless you find his being Jamaican amusing.

>>
>>738710167

>>
>>738724381
I don't know why people hate on them so much, I loved them, best FF combat, very intense story, since it changes some things you don't know where it's gonna go, the characters are all great, game is just fun from beginning to end. The only problem is the open world sections in Rebirth which are Ubisoft trash but you don't have to do the boring tasks in them.
>>
>>738724381
The combat isn't shallow anymore but there are even more context based QTE events, make of that what you will

FF...4? I think, might have been 5. It's been a while.
Basically every "chapter" has a guest character/characters and/or limits the party choices. Unlike alot of other RPGs, nearly every single one of the guest characters dies or become unplayable for one reason or another.

It's the worse version of this trope. At least with Kamari Ronso, you had him around before and he is usable after his section of the game. FF6 might constantly limit your party in one way or another, but it's not like Sabin becomes completely unplayable post the train.
>>
>>738724381
Remake is actually really fun. You might hate that there is a whole rhythm mini game
Rebirth is a fucking slog due to it being open world.
>>
>>738724234
I remember Dragon Quest 4 making it pretty obvious that you're gonna have a split party for the majority of the game and it was fine there so yes I guess it is better.
>>
>>738724808
Remake feels more like a slog to me because it stretches out Midgar which is at best 4 hours to 40 hours. The side quests is also super rough compared to Rebirth, not just structure but the stories they tell. Rebirth is more high effort, to its detriment sometimes. They always wanted a gimmick in shit, like Gongaga exploration.
>>
>>738724718
2 and 4 both do this.

Remake being more "rough" is what makes it better.
There is no long drawn outside quests.
There is not collectables/minigames all over the fucking place.
No ubisoft towers
Remake does not waste your time with a bunch of shit.
Rebirth is obnoxious with the amount of things to do in every new zone.
>>
>>738725197
Remake does waste your time, you just have no incentive to do side content really. All the slums and wall market stuff can take awhile to do.
Meanwhile Rebirths stuff is also optional...except the part where Chadley gets all the good/unique materia meaning to get the most out of a playthrough you do need to do world intel.

Replaying Rebirth and skipping shit, just like skipping shit in Remake, made it alot more smooth pacing-wise.
>>
>>738725332
>except the part where Chadley gets all the good/unique materia
He does? I felt like the only truly "unique" materia he had were the combined element ones like Fire and Ice / Lightning and Wind Materia and you got those really early so there was no reason to 100% his intel.
>>
>>738725197
Rebirth only pads out the game with optional side content

Remake pads out the game with forced story sequences. You WILL spend hours playing a crane game or a third trip to the sewers or a pointless detour in the train graveyard

Suikoden 1 comes to mind. It's fucking ridiculous that in a game with 108 possible characters and up to 6 active party members you're forced to use like 3 or 4 party slots for huge portions of the game on characters you might not wantto use. I just want to use the cool tiger guy with dual axes but no, I'm stuck bringing the random ass boat guy, or Richter Belmont's gay cousin or some shit.

She has pretty good stats and Doom of the Living is functionally the best Lv 3 limit break, almost on par with some Lv 4s and actually better than most of them. Meanwhile Tifa falls off in the latter half of the game. The best options other than Yuffie would be Cid or Barret , or Vincent if you're using that one exploit.

What dynamic? Freya effectively vanishes from existence from disc 2 onwards, Amaranth’s only presence is standing in the background of an occasional cutscene, Quina is a one-note joke that gets literally abandoned on a different continent and forgotten, and for most of the story Steiner is only there to screech “Princess!”. The party could have been cut in half and its dynamics would have actually improved.

Actually I forgot Angermax, but DotL is pretty close. Bloodfest is also one of the best Lv2s.

The unbuttoned shorts weren't just a fanservice thing, they served a logical purpose as a quick stash point for stolen materia, and any male guard would think twice before shoving his hands down a teenage girl's underpants in the chance he may find contraband. No doubt this was lost of the ethics department who saw only something designed for the male gaze that needed to be purged.

I felt the same but bought it anyway. I always hate open world stuff and feel it does nothing but make the game worse but I really liked remake.
