I'm on board with the overwhelming amount of 10/10 review scores being weird as fuck, but I don't think the whole music licensing thing is COMPLETELY impossible for a small studio project.
If any of you know anything about Nirvana the Band The Show and watched interviews by the creators on how to weaponize fair use laws, you probably already know where I'm going with this.
Matt and Jay have gone on record to say that you CAN feature licensed media in a creative work WITHOUT permission and for FREE if the story absolutely demands that one very particular piece of media be used, and if you removed it then the story wouldn't work.
From what I've seen in Mixtape, the main character is constantly running her mouth about why each song matters for each moment in the story, to an annoying degree, so much so that if the license holders asked for the songs to be removed then the moments would make no sense and it would jepordize the whole game (I mean, that'd be awesome but you get the point I'm making).
Look I agree, fuck this game, because the whole review scoring fiasco reeks of "secret cabal"- but I think there's a chance they just did some legal loopholes and had a good lawyer on hand for the music stuff. I'm not saying its true but I'm just saying its possible.

The official transformers comic couldn't even afford to write "You got the touch" as a sfx due to licensing cost while this game could afford the song.

Just the sheer cost to license really big famous songs would make it impossible for a small studio unless they have the backing of one of the most rich billionaries in the world. And that is basically what happened here.

Even if you're right you still have to be rich because the music companies will still die for there piece of the pie and to stop this positive becoming widespread

Let’s assume for a moment that all the copyright owners took a liking to the devs and allowed them to put their music in the game for a fraction of what they normally would’ve charged. It’s impossible? No, but it’s definitely weird.
How about the game having almost double the reviews on steam that the max concurrent peak of players in less than a week. Is it impossible? No, but let’s agree that it’s very weird.
What about the Game awards twitter account announcing it’s launch? Is it impossible that a small scrappy indie studio managed to get their game advertised like that because Geoff took a liking to them? Again, no, but it’s exceptionally weird.
And finally. Is it impossible that every single outlet and multiple high and low profile youtubers and streamers recommended and played it right away as soon as it launched saying all the exact same praises while there was exactly zero hype for it to the point that NOBODY even knew about this game prior to release? No, it’s not impossible, but at this point, and taking into consideration everything else, it feels so weird that you can’t help but to become suspicious.

It's just a good game, nothing more to it.

OP here.
Yup. All of this adding up pretty much makes any defense ultimately pointless. Even by my own logic this game is still 100% astroturfed.
>>
I don't know anything about this game. So I looked it up on xitter and found a scene where one of the characters starts a forest fire? and then screams at her "Daddy" for like two minutes straight about running away or something.

It's probably one of the most cringe things I've seen in years.
That alone makes me suspicious of the whole 10/10 reviews. The writing and dialogue is so incredibly embarrassing.

It's not good, and it's not a game. It's the return of Gamergate, this time about rich jewish parents and not just helping game journos score for better scores.

The chick who owns the studio is the daughter of Larry Ellison. He's currently the third richest man in the world with a net worth of $201 BILLION.

Should have rioted last year when E33 won GOTY thanks to nepotism and rich jewish parents. Instead it just opened the door for more of this mess.

Except this time you chud retards won't actually do anything because the culprits are MAGA insiders.
>>
>>738713156
You think e33 was the first?
>>
>>738713190
E33 was a test to see how gullible gamers are and as it turns out, they're extremely gullible.

Or you can just look at the jews behind it, anna purna was also responsible for the Gone Home retardation by the way

What is the game’s stance on Israel?
>>
>>738711376
Oh my god who gives a fuck.
It's a nostalgia-bait "indie" passion project from a billionaire-daughter.
There's an infinite supply of bad or stupid games to make fun of. It's a waste of time.
>>
>>738713231
but nobody is positive about this game other than journos. its being panned by everyone else
>>
>>738713490
People are mostly only talking about this because it got 10/10's across the board. No one would have cared otherwise.
>>
>>738713715
Plenty of shit games get retarded scores, this one has a more nefarious marketing scheme behind it. Wonder if it will last more than a week

This is fair use in Canada
Beethoven & Dinosaur is an Australian team

I also don't think that any given song in Mixtape is irrevocably important to the story.
Stacey could introduce damn-near any song for any section of the game. Animations and sequences are not specifically tied to the beat of the specific song, the lyrics are not directly related to the events taking place, and there are only a handful of cases when the music is diagetic.

Very different from, say, Matt being blind for an episode because he watched all six Episodes of Star Wars while sitting too close to the TV.

>"You got the touch" as a sfx due to licensing cost while this game could afford the song.
Uh... even Shadow Warrior uses that song. It's not exactly hard to license.
