it was my GOTY 2024
Is this worth playing after all the updates?I consider Code Vein to be not worth playing and The Surge to be almost worth playing
>>738713468>The SurgeI remember both Surges being games that were ALMOST good, but not quite. Games made back when everyone was trying to ride the wave of popularity that Dark Souls had for "tough as nails" action rpg games...but didn't quite get why those were fun in the first place.
>>738713468Yeah I'd say so. The NG+ system is very cool and it now has optional boss rush modes and other modifiers. Enemy placement (main issue with the game) has also been reworked, and in NG+ bosses get new movesets and stuff to keep it fresh.Plenty of random shit added (secrets/quests/etc) but I really liked it. Everything about it feels very intuitive. My main recommendation is>use vestige seeds (semi portable bonfires), don't hoard themThey can make the difference between an area being a slog and being fine.
They added a setting you can toggle during a new game that lets any weapons you find be automatically upgraded to match your level when you find them, letting you save upgrade materials for boss stuff
I want to like this game but the lore confuses me a lot. I know that its>souls lorebut I genuinely can't fathom what any of this shit is
>>738713425My favourite game of 2023, souls tourists who just want character action combat with a stamina bar and boss rush shit through linear levels wouldn't get it
Yeah yeah, sick contrarian thread. This is da best soulslike, DMC2 is best and Duke Nukem Forever was actually heccin epic.
>>738714549why do normalfags always feel the need to announce they disapprove of something
>>738713425Me too. Can we kiss?
>>738714586Why do normalfags always feel the need to seek validation for their shit taste?
>>738714639>no uclassic normalfag
>>738714292LOTF has more straightforward lore than many Souls games, but its confusing as fuck because the new game has the same name as the old game and is styled as a reboot but is narratively a direct sequel. Basically:Pre LOTF1:>Humanity is oppressed by Adyr, big evil god>They rebel and push his shit in, Adyr creates a demon army (Rhogar) to suppress it>3 human heroes called "Judges" (warrior, mage, rogue) lead humanity to victory and kill Adyr (see: put him into slumber)>3 Judges (and their descendants) now rule humanity, golden age for humanity marked by *balance* between good and ebilLOTF1:>Centuries later, guy called Antanas (a descendant of the judges) wants to become a god, starts doing spooky experiments and creating monsters>Balance of the world gets fucked up, but Antanas claims its fine its all just holy stuff>This wakes Adyr from slumber; he's back, and so are the Rhogar. They invade the world>Adyr is "intervening" to stop Antanas specifically, claiming that he is going to fuck up the soul of humanity forever>Enter Harkyn, LOTF1 protagonist, hardened criminal released to help Antanas repel Adyr's invasion>Late game, Adyr "reveals" to Harkyn that Antanas isn't a good guy and that he's doing fucked up shit>Gives Harkyn a Rune that can destroy Antanas; asks him to do so and allow Adyr to return fully>Suddenly, its unclear if Adyr is truly good or evil. Antanas also wants the Rune for himself.>Multiple endings, but the canon is Harkyn refusing to give either of them the Rune, killing Antanas and keeping Adyr in a weakened state>World balance restoredLOTF2:>1000 years later>Once more, Adyr is trying to return; many corrupted human societies are rife with secretive cults to Adyr>Either side of the balance (light/dark) have become warped and fucked up>Turns out there is definitely worse shit out there than Adyr>5 Beacons keep Adyr from returning-but they have been corrupted>You're a revenant; go deal with it
>>738714549I think LOTF is actually good, not just "good, all things considered."
>>738713468It's alright. It has some pacing problems though and even with the high difficulty mode and extra mutators, the enemy placement is pretty mild. It only really becomes a problem later on because enemy design is really fucking boring and towards the end you just see the same monsters including former bosses over and over.
>>738713425Me too anon. I'm a simple gamerman, you give me good, or at least decent, non-linear *non-open world* to explore and I'll like it even if other aspects were a bit shit. LOTF reboot has the kind of world design the DaS1 circlejerkers love about that game.
I pirated this when it first came out, played it for about 4 hours. I thought it was inoffensive but also an annoying concession to all the soulsfags that got filtered by the original LoTF. Reason I ended up not sticking with it is it didn't do enough to set itself apart, too by the numbers, didn't push the genre forward in a meaningful way. But then I decided to give it another try years later>they massively nerfed the difficulty>tons of accessibility options>you have to manually re-enable the original (still nerfed) difficulty with the UBER PREPARE TO DIE ticker when you start a game. Fuck this game and fuck the developers. There was NOTHING wrong with the difficulty on release, the original LoTF WASN'T bad. And I'm tired of cowardly developers always kneeling to the masses. I hope the sequel fails and the IP dies.
>>738714980The mutator that increases enemy density is exactly how the game was on release as far as enemies are concerned
>>738714795Don't forget that there's another god. The god of light. We don't ever meet him, but he's more than happy to kill us after we do his dirty work.
>>738714795>narratively a direct sequeldidn't even know that, luckily don't care about video stories
>>738713425I also did, it was jank as hell but I liked it and appreciated the effort. But now they went full wink wink nudge nudge chudbait and retarded Cro Magnons materialised out of nowhere and pretend they like it, so I don't talk about it much anymore.
>>738715425Lotf threads attract me like a moth to a lamp and I can assure you the amount of people who like the game has not changed, stop getting upset at things you make up in yo head anon
>>738715345Yeah, bunch of characters from the first game are in this one.>>738715269There's 3 iirc. Orius, obviously, the very staunch god of light. Putrid mother, the opposite. Then Adyr.I think Putrid Mother ends up being the most fucked up one
>tfw you get pulled into umbral while using the lamp for like 5 seconds
>>738713425felt like a bad souls clone. The world was cool looking and the audio effects were nice.
>>738715493It is true on xitter
>>738714795>refuses to give either of them the runeHow is this the canon ending? Where does "Umbral" come into it?
>>738714934>that one shortcut from upper calrath back to skycrest bridgeshit is so cash
>>738713425this game gets so much underserved hate
>>738716254The original game had 3 endings:>Harkyn uses the Rune to lead the humans to victory against the Rhogar>Harkyn uses the Rune to destroy Antanas and restore Adyr>Harkyn does neither, and gives the rune to the Blacksmith (canon; Blackmith is Sparky in LOTF2), supposedly leading to a restoration of "balance"; neither antanas autism or adyr shit dominatesSo in LOTF1, the Rune of Adyr is entrusted to the Blacksmith. Later, Harkyn took the Rune back as he hoped to personally safeguard it due to growing worship of Adyr within Calrath-particularly among slaves. You can see in Upper Calrath there's a Stigma of the Iron Wayfarer entrusting the Rune to Judge Cleric-and we know what that lead to.>where does Umbral come into it?iirc Umbral is a new thing introduced with LOTF2. It is (in theory) ruled over by the Putrid Mother, who acts less as a God and more as a mother parasite; she (and the rest of the Umbral realm) feeds on any shit that goes wrong in Axiom (living world). The Gods in LOTF are all kind of fucked up, with the Putrid Mother serving as the "outside bet" that the other two major forces are simply unequipped to face. So you have Orius who's "good" but a dick about it, and Adyr who's "bad" but knows what happens if humanity goes unchecked. Then there's Umbral/the Putrid mother, who just want to devour everything and return the world to a state of total silence by breaking the barrier between Umbral/Axiom. Putrid Mother is far more dangerous than Orius or Adyr.
thank god based CI Games is sticking to their gyatts and LOTF 2 is going to be polack master race anti-woke kinoludo, can't wait for more janky combat, dogshit boss fights, useless shortcuts and convoluted questlines
Does it also make you redo whole levels to have another shot at a boss?
>>738717541Sometimes, but this is a more classic souls game, meaning the levels are often more difficult than the bosses
>>738717541Not really, especially using the vestige seeds. Most bosses have an umbral flowerbed very near them so you can make a temporary bonfire there if you are sick of it.Worst boss run in the game imo is just the slog through the sewer place to kill the 3 mystery niggas, they're barely a boss anyway
>>738713425how much better is it now? i can't be bothered checking
>>738713425I enjoy it but I wish they just stop coping dark souls.
>>738718262i don't because i'm not playing dark slowuls
>>738718141depends what you hated at the start. Main changes I've noticed>changes to enemy placement>better performance>boss reworks (new movesets/abilities) which also change boss weapons>new questlines+spells etcA lot of NG+ or modifier stuff; when you start a new game you can set modifiers for your playthrough that change the difficulty (usually to make it harder) or some QoL stuff. There's also a crucible aka boss rush mode and you can replay boss fights once you beat them, I guess.>>738718262I mean this game is very obviously inspired by Dark Souls but out of all the soulslike games I see this as having struck out into its own territory more than others. The umbral/axiom stuff really makes exploration and combat feel different.
>>738719070>better performanceawesome alreadydoes boss moveset include their awakardly tracking attacks that are lightning fast when the start after their astornomical delays?
>>738719963In my experience some of the bosses still have weird tracking but its mostly when they do the whole>this is a boss (its actually a regular enemy later on)so they just buff the fuck out of them. Skinstealer, Flame Enchrantress, etc. It doesn't translate to their regular enemy form, though, so who knows.Actual bosses are more aggressive now, but the rebalance generally means that as long as you aren't constantly running away or panicking you're fine. As in, rather than it feeling like they're just spamming shit you can now far more easily spot when they're doing a chain of attacks and pick your moment. However they also added "Veteran Mode" which makes bosses even harder, but it's optional. Upside is it means all the boss weapons have new special attacks, usually tied to finishing certain questlines or getting certain endings.iirc Pieta's sword is extremely good if you do the Umbral ending.
>>738713425played it a few months ago with 2.0, it was fun if slightly jankyalso practically all of the bosses were really easy, though I guess that wasn't a bad break from Wuchang/Khazan bosses when I played those games earlier
>>738713468Its better than dark souls 1
I dont understand the hate. Lords Of Fallen 2.5 was kino besides umbral mechanic! So i am excited for next Lords Of Fallen
>>738717514if anything ruins LOTF it will be annoying faggots like you politicising fucking everything as usual
why are the flail's special attacks not multi hit god damn
>>738713468>>738713527The Surge is fun as fuck. I love the environment in the game. Just pure fucking machinery everywhere you look, and metal as fuck
