>Play open XCOM because everyone says it's so much deeper than later XCOM games>First mission is a terror mission.>Well okay>Load up a bunch of guys and fly to mission site>First thing I see are two fucking cyberdiscs and 3 sectoids right outside the skyranger.>First guy dies when he tries to walk out>Second guy dies after he gets one shot out>Third guy dies because he panics and runs away triggering another reaction shot.>Drop smoke>Still lose 3 more soldiers in the aliens turn>This causes half the remaining soldiers to panicPeople hated on pods in 2012 XCOM but they were never this bullshit
Should of dropped smoke as your friest action
>>738729012you have way more agency in arming your dudes, you should consider using it and have prepared for the mission better with rocket launchers and heavy cannons
>>738729012Xcom Enemy Within is literally the only good Xcom game. They ruined it with Xcom after that.
>>738729012The early game is by far the hardest part, to the point most people abort the first terror mission to avoid losses. By the second terror mission all your guys should have laser rifles and it just gets easier from there. It's a fantastic game and it mogs nu-XCOM
>play "open XCOM">posts a mod screenshotHow am I meant to take anything you say seriously
>>738729012It's an uphill battle. IIRC it's not even by design but works here as HFY kino
I really wish nuxcom got a tftd expansion
I have never played any other XCOM than Apocalypse
>>738733029Any good?
>>738729012Should have aborted the mission. Dealing with such overwhelming enemy forces before even exiting the Skyranger is extremely difficult. You could take them if you had an Avenger with 4 hovertanks and 10 power armored vets with plasma weapons, or with psionics, but unarmored guys with ballistics won't stand a chance.
>>738733405I thought it was fun, though I was a little overwhelmed by all the management shit you have to do.
>>738729012>has experience with Xcom new edition>still takes on a terror mission at the start of the gameSaar, you are of the posting delicious cow shit
I get intense choice paralysis in this game and end up dropping it around when you capture the (unmarked) UFO captain or whatever.
>>738733029I'm dying to give this one a shot once sometime. Too bad the OpenApoc project is moving at a snail's pace and very far from finished
>>738734573what do you mean, I'm in a mission I have to fight i, that's how games are supposed to work!freedom and agency are scary
>>738734573>but unarmored guys with ballistics won't stand a chance.10 BRAVERY LETS' DO THIS
>>738737127The very first terror mission will be a bloodbath on your side. The optimal move is to land then abort. The score penalty is small compared to never sending anyone. You'll be much more prepared when the 2nd terror mission comes along
>>738737436I did that when I played for the first time, I just looked at my units and I realized that I would lose everyone anyway, so might as just ditch the mission and not lose as much, if you think about it it's a very organic way of telling a history of a uphill battle against alien invaders and tough choices that would have to be made, modern games wish they had this depth of storytelling.
I turn off psionics when I play OpenXcom. It's stat checking bullshit. The optimal way around it is to cycle through soldiers until you find ones with nat resistances. It's dumb. Is this cheating or nah?
