>Beaver explained that it never felt “unfair at all” for Dead Space to be cancelled after the third game, although it was sad for the team. “It wasn’t like it didn’t get a run out of it,” he said. “I mean, it’s disappointing that we can’t make a beloved franchise to its logical end, but I guess I’m too much of a producer, [I’ve] been producing for too long. I understand the numbers, and I understand what’s happening, and why even Motive wasn’t really greenlit for anything after the remake.”
>The Dead Space veteran explained that, unfortunately, “the numbers aren’t there”. While they admit that the horror franchise has a “fervent fan base” that is willing to invest in additional games, that fanbase may not be big enough for the production values that entrenches the series.
>“Horror games have a bit of a ceiling, you know, and I think the number back in [former EA VP] Frank Gibeau’s day was 5 million units to keep going on Dead Space,” he continued. “I think the number is like 15 million units now, given the cost of things.”
>Beaver said that the reality of the situation is “a sadness in capitalism for all of us to suffer”, joking that this will likely be the case “until AI makes it apparently easy for you and I to just type ‘make Dead Space 4’”.
>Beaver estimated that a new Dead Space title would likely have to sell around the 7 million unit mark to be seen as viable. “Any of the Resident Evils are selling around seven million [units], that’s a pretty good number,” the producer explained. “Like you can make that hunt for some amount of stuff. But, you know, companies now are looking for the next Fortnite. They need something that is a perennial moneymaker… something like a single-player package game with no live=service offering that’s like it’s just a dinosaur fossil of a business model.”

Rip Dead Space fans.
>>
it wouldn't have been good anyway, ds3 has to be retconned and the ds1 remake devs weren't good enough to make a new game
>>

Oh wow the series that ended 13 years ago won't get another game?

He worked on every Dead Space except the remake.
>>
>>738734095
But the remake was fine?
>>
>>738734010
>create a masterpiece with 1 and 2
>fuck it all up through biblical greed with 3
>wonder how it all fucked up

Fuck em all. Im glad the remake sold like shit too.

Does it still stutter like an autists off their meds or did they feel like gettin around to fixing that lil issue of the game running like dogshit for almost all pc builds on launch?
>>
>>738735124
Dunno, I pirated it myself and it played fine for me on my 4080 build at the time. It was definitely not a perfect game, but easily a serviceable remake, I actually proffered the way zero-g sections were reworked.
>>
>Capcom repeatedly satisfied with every new RE game and remake
>"Our RE clone just wouldn't hit the numbers it needs"
What does Capcom have that EA can't pull off?
>>
>>738734010
Maybe stop spending hundreds of millions on shitty marketing campaigns
>>
>we would need 15 million units to make it viable
>*he says into an empty room which echos and reverbs his own voice back into his ear
>15 million
>>
>>738734010
They'd have to pull a bait and switch and make DS4 but call it something different so normies aren't scared off by starting a series 4 games into the story.
>>

>companies now are looking for the next Fortnite. They need something that is a perennial moneymaker
I think this is the biggest problem. How many companies are even satisfied with smaller projects or games selling just okay? So many companies seem to want to have the next fortnite, WoW, or LoL, and anything that isnt that just isnt worth the time/opportunity cost to them.
>>
>>738735230
Big western publishers vastly prefer to invest into enormous flops than into mere disappointments.
But also Capcom cheaps out massively on the production of current RE games.
>>

2 was an in-house cashgrab by EA, with all the trappings of the time like cancer dlc and tacked on multiplayer. The fact it was any good at all was a miracle, and it certainly wasn't for the story.
>>
>>738738171
I enjoyed the multi-player and the story dlc wasnt bad.
>>
why the fuck do they need to spend double the budget of previous titles? it doesnt make any sense
>>
>>738738831
The point was that all the greed behind 3 started with 2. It being good was just a coincidence, like Bioshock
>>
I don't give a fuck about Dead Space just give me Dante's inferno 2. You already have the games story finished.
>>
>>738734010
Dead Space fans don't deserve a sequel after hyping up the demake
>>
>>738734010
The pozzed remake killed it
>>
>>738734010
Why can't they give the sequel a lower budget and move development to a cheaper country so that it can hit a more realistic sales target? Not everything has to be a AAAA game made in California.
>>
maybe if the remake wasn't made by and for faggots....
>>
>>738734010
>it’s not unfair to set unrealistic expectations that you know they won’t be able to hit, and then punishing them when they can’t
>>
>>738734965
It’s a buggy piece of shit with zero soul.
>>
>>738734965
But anon, the bathrooms! The blacks! Those killed the gameplay!
