After Platinuming Saros, I really just didn't enjoy it all that much. Returnal is just a much better, more complete and fun game. The environments in Returnal make it feel like a Metroid game. Returnal is a harder game. There's far more variety in the guns and the parasites making the game very different each time you play it. You can still become very powerful / overpowered in returnal, but it's not the same as how fast it happens in Saros especially with the upgrade system from Primary that gives you a lot more buffs, whereas in Returnal most of the increases in your lethality are by upgrading each type of weapon by using them and killing enemies with them. Saros just simplifies the mechanics in an unnecessary way, and there's far less variety, each run ends up feeling basically the same as the last. You become overpowered so quickly to the point with many weapons you can just hold down R1 and spam L2 attacks to destroy an entire room of enemies in a few seconds. There's also a major lack of balance between the abilities and weapons. The Chakram is incredibly powerful, as is the Crossbow. Both the versions that essentially autofire endlessly with R2. The pistol is completely worthless. You won't ever use it again after the first biome unless you have no choice. The Shotgun is worthless, you never have any real reason to use it. The Assault Rifle is not as good as the others, not bad but only the overdrive version without autoaim is ever worth grabbing. There's only 5 weapons in the game too, yes there's like 3 different versions of each but it doesn't matter all that much. Returnal had WAY MORE variety in the weapons and different modes of fire for each, it made each fun actually feel different because you could be using the same weapon in many different ways in each run. Returnal >>>> Saros. I hope Housemarque learns from their mistakes and goes back to a better formula with their next game.
>>738739040They listened to reddit and made saaros easier which is annoying because Returnal really wasn't that hard
To continue, the artifact system in Saros is so undercooked. There's 3 attributes and they just basically modify them in a little bit. They don't do anything cool or interesting outside of debuffing you with the corrupted ones and those debuffs are basically harmless like oh you take a little bit more fall damage or oh your cooldown for dash is a little longer, that's it. The story too, I just was not engaged with it at all and honestly the whole thing still felt like nothing about it was real just like the original game. The game itself is just far too easy too. Only the final boss (Yellow King) had any sort of difficulty and that's only because the final area limits how high your level can get from collecting lunacite. >>738739147I agree. Returnal honestly wasn't hard at all outside of your first trip in the first biome. That said, in Returnal, the times I did die were just to a room of normal enemies where maybe my gun wasn't as powerful as I needed it to be, I only ever died to the first boss once, and none of the other bosses ever killed me despite killing them many more times than the first. The final boss in Returnal in particular is piss easy since unlike in Saros, in Returnal you do have to run through 3 biomes to get to the final boss so you're going to be very powerful by the time you get to it.
Didn't read. Both are garbage. Both are generic console shooter with a story than manages to be pretentious, gay and retarded all at the same time. But if "it was all in le head lol" is so much better for you than "We must be better cuckolds" then good for you.
>>738739273Returnal had a level up system with the gun attributes where if you were shit at the game you could still level the guns up to break the game.
>>738739040I remember Returnal getting a lot easier after leveling up weapons
Whatever, I still like SAARjun Betterman's game more.
>>738739697It does, which is why people saying Returnal was "too hard" is ridiculous. Saros is a cakewalk compared to it, you can become so powerful so fast that you just curbstomp everything you come up against with the right weapon, and none of the weapons need to be upgraded, and there's far less variety with the weapons so you're more likely to just get one that you can destroy everything with.
I just finished Saros and feel the same way. What hurts it the most imo is the lack of risk vs. reward mechanics. Returnal has you making choices that matter all the time while Saros straight forward almost to the point it's a generic action game. I'm thinking a run without upgrades might be fun, but the game forces you quit your cycle too much. Since starting from later biomes with no upgrades would probably make the game absurdly difficult you'd have to start over after almost every boss. And there aren't even rewards for self imposed challenges... not even trophies.Still a fun and somewhat difficult game. But I'm hoping there will be an expansion that brings back Returnal's mechanics.
>>738739040I liked in Returnal that using the weapons attributes or whatever they're called leveled up the more you used them. Wish Saros had that
>>738739697However you needed to play very well (avoid damage at all cost) to level up quickly. Some weapons also weren't that great so you could have a difficult run depending on what the game threw at you. Not to mention malfunctions that actually mattered, mini boss rooms that could screw you up and overall more difficult enemies.
>>738739871>I just finished Saros and feel the same way. What hurts it the most imo is the lack of risk vs. reward mechanics. Returnal has you making choices that matter all the time while Saros straight forward almost to the point it's a generic action gameExactly, you get so many acolyte's whatever it was called to re-roll whatever comes out of a chest you can just get whatever gun you want pretty much whenever you want anyways. There's just much less variety and the upgrades in the game make you way too powerful way too fast.
saw on reddit some retard was 20 hours in the game and still did not beat the first boss and was bitching the game shouldnt be that hard. These are the "people" that Housemarque listens too
>>738740071some of those rooms you get locked in were pretty tough if you didn't have the right weapon that was upgraded enough in returnal. That's what made the game more fun though, it was actually having a challenge sometimes. In Saros, you can just get whatever overpowered gun you prefer in pretty much every run (payload crossbow or the reaping chakram which will just rape an entire room of enemies in a few seconds, especially with prominence. Speaking of which, I only ever found Prominence to be the useful power weapon since you can just pair it with a weapon that builds your power up in a single shot and just spam nukes that 1 shot most enemies. The other ones that you have to charge up were completely inferior because of that.
>>738740142I saw the same thing before I bought Returnal. It intrigues me making me think the game was hard and I proceeded to beat it in 2 days
I hate when games go over board with customization it basically is them admitting they are garbage at balancing and outsource that to you
>>738740142I was struggling a little early on in the game until I realized how broken it was to start from an earlier biome instead of the latest. And with a full armor matrix you're overpowered from the get go for even the cathedral. It's absurd how busted this game is.Not to mention barely anything can catch you if you just run circles around the enemies. We make fun of fromsoft for delayed attacks and anime combos on their bosses, but they got the right idea to make their games incrementally more difficult instead of the opposite.
>>738740558I was doing the same thing. I died to the first boss a few times and thought huh, maybe this game isn't going to be as easy as people were saying but as soon as I just started running through from the first biome you get so powerful that you can just waltz through everything that comes after.
Did anyone else just not ever use the shield? Parry as well, I just never felt the need to ever use it not even on bosses, tanking any damage wasn't hard to do anyways. It is completely pointless. I never felt any reason to use it outside of getting the 2 trophies associated with it. You can dodge through almost all attacks and just run circles around all the enemies anyways. There's hardly any enemies that try to melee you or anything too, that's another thing about the game is the lack of enemy variety compared to Returnal.
the fact that I've managed to beat sekiro twice is truth that returnal is too fucking hard. paying 60 dollars just to get filtered by the first boss and then not being eligible for a refund.
>>738740910The last boss in returnal was so fucking easy you just are shit
>>738740910The first boss is only hard because you're going into it without fully understanding the game yet probably. Once you get a hang of it it's a breeze. Honestly, I died to the first boss in Returnal a handful of times but once I beat him I never died again to any of the other bosses. You get so overpowered as you upgrade each gun too.
>>738740910Returnal requires you to learn a bunch of stuff: what weapons are good, what artifacts are good, how to efficiently use risk factors to level up quick. Then there's learning to keep moving instead of standing around and doing smaller dodges. If you don't figure these things out the game is hell.
>>738741241once you get that ability that gives you life on every kill the game is a joke
>>738741402You could still fumble it if you weren't focussing at the wrong time, but yeah that artefact was way too good.
What happens to that Eli guy?
>>738739040Respect for the substantive thread. Had interest in this game, but no ps5. Was anything more mechanically interesting, even if the balance was fucked? Better bosses or anything?
Returnal comes together better from a cohesive design it's greater than the sum of it's parts It has a steeper learning curve than Saros but once you figure out everything it's easier, you have more items at your disposal and can use to your advantage, the enemies in Saros are faster, more erratic and more aggressive than Returnal
>>738744131My highlight was honestly the environment design of a couple places... mechanically it's just a downgrade from Returnal unless you're one of the people who quit Returnal before they even beat the first boss.
>>738739040I didn't pick up Saros after seeing all the chose your own difficulty options, whenever I see those after Doom The Dark Ages it strikes me as a massive red flag due to the series being casualized. Sad to see that I was right on the money and it ended up being worse than Returnal, which I did enjoy.
>>738740475The biggest offender of that for me was hearing Sonic Frontiers lets you do that to the core platformer physics and such. Unbelievable
>>738744131It's still a good, fun game, it's just not on the same level as Returnal to me and in some respects it's a downgrade. They really wanted to make the game more "accessible" for example, you don't have to start at the same biome every time like in Returnal but can start any biome after you unlock it from the hub area. The weapons are more simplified, and there's fewer of them. The game gives you a shield to block damage that you never really have to use. >>738746116It's still not a bad game, it's just not as good as Returnal. It's worth a playthrough if you can get it on sale in the future, definitely not worth the $70 to play it on release like I did.
>>738746406>It's worth a playthrough if you can get it on sale in the future, definitely not worth the $70 to play it on release like I did.I might pick it up when it's $30 or something then. Barely any game is worth $70 to me anymore, I'm buying about 2 of those a year, sometimes just 1. It's never really worth it when games go on sale so quickly these days, I only do it when I want to support the devs.
>>738746545Returnal was like $20 within about a year of release, probably the same for this game. I picked up Returnal when it was on sale for $20 physical on amazon a few years ago.
If they make a game that's not so hard by default and requires players to restrict themselves to have a real challenge, they should at least put in incentives to do so. Something as simple as an unlockable gallery or optional trophies would do.
>>738739040That sucks to hear since returnal wasn't hard outside of the first biome but I'll still try it since my library is the one buying it
>>738739040I didnt read all that but your pic is unfortunate. I was looking forward to maybe seeing saaros on pc in a year
>>738739040That's disappointing. I really loved Returnal. Should I still pick it up down the line as a Returnal fan? Do you think a Sisyphus style mode that removes all the permanent upgrades would maybe make you like Saros more?
>>738747228I mean I'm a little harsh on the game, but it's still worth playing at least once if you enjoyed returnal. The gameplay is essentially very similar, it's just Returnal felt like something truly special and Saros is a bit more generic in comparison. I just don't think it's worth $70 right now, wait for it to go on sale in the future and then give it a try.
and the game really does look good, I still preferred Returnal's biomes and aesthetics though.
>>738747452I'll def pick it up eventually. I hope they add a Sisyphus mode
>>738748329They should hopefully do some DLC. Returnals was pretty fun, and actually hard too, harder than the main game at least.
I got platinum earlier this year. Had been looking forward to Saros, and now this thread. What a bummer.
>>738748554It's still a good game, it's just not as good as Returnal that's all really. If you liked Returnal you will still like this game though.
Im really mad they changed how the health system worksreturnal's was so fucking cool I also ended up saving keys for doors but theres barely any locked doors in the fucking game so you start using them for the yellow chests and then you get the ability to just break those open so what the fuck are the keys even for in the end game
>>738748990I liked that there was like a high risk / reward in returnal and sometimes you could go a long time without getting any health meaning avoiding taking any damage was very important. In Saros health is a lot more abundant, each level has ample health pickups as you play through them and as you put points into your abilities you get more and more health drops from enemies more often.
>>738747593yepsaros was way to red and way too mechanical if there were more areas like shattered rise and the cathedral it would have been great. returnal didnt even do that well and we got saros so i'm hoping saros does just well enough to see another evolution of this formula. Maybe something that leans less into the roguelike aspects and more into exploration
>>738739040>it’s still good I promise!!!Black lesbian cuckold SARRRRRROS.Just imagine lol
>>738749141this thread is for people that actually play games. go somewhere else
>>738749116They need to tone down their piece of shit MCs and their terrible endings.Selene and Arjun were awful human beings.
>>738749430I do hope their next game is more "grounded" in a sense that I'd like to have a story where the game doesn't feel like it's not real the entire time. I'm still not even sure if anything that happens in Saros is real or not, or if it's just another "internal struggle in their head" game like Returnal was with all that happens being a metaphor.
>>738749667I think its less of a metaphor than Returnal, the planet in Saros is just heavily influenced by the characters feelings
Saros is incredible
