How do i get into Splatoon?
>>738739969play splatoon 2 + dlc
>>738739969Ink your Splat Zone to some Squiddos.
>>738739969That's weird to think about. Someone missing the boat on splatoon. You can't just play splatoon 1 and 2's multiplayer again, the party's at splatoon 3 right now.You COULD play the single player modes for splatoon 1, 2 and 3. Along with the DLC for 2 and 3, at the very least.
I would very much so like to be inside a splatoon.
>>738739969masturbating to porn fanart.
>>738739969Travel back to 2015 and play Splatoon on the Wii UDo NOT play 3 unless you enjoy not having fun
>>738739969You shouldn’t because it will be nothing but a massive disappointment once you realize that a technically great game is held hostage on low end hardware and hosted on low cost servers. It’s a tragedy really.
>>738740073Isn't better to start with 3?
>>738739969At this point just wait for Splatoon Raiders and then the inevitable Splatoon 41 and 2 are dead and gone, 3 sucks
>>738740441The fuck?
>>7387406732 has a better single player experience.>fomosplatoon 3 isn't going away for a while. you'll live.
>>738739969Wait for 4 if you want a multiplayer focused PvP game. Raiders will probably be a good starting point to get used to the gameplay, world, and so on in the meantime.
>>738739969>How do i get into Splatoon?Buy game.Play game.Play game online.I don't understand how someone might have difficulty "getting into" a casual Nintendo party game.
>>738739969what's even the point of this game?
Are you more into singleplayer or multiplayer? If multiplayer, start with 3, it had a good singleplayer campaign too. If singleplayer, start with Raiders, which will have co-op if you have friends. If you wanna experience it all, buy 2 specifically for its dlc>>738742382To have fun
You can’t. Tendie sweaties make the game miserable for anyone who hasn’t devoted hundreds of hours into the game already.
>>738740756Splatoon 1 autists are a thing
i own all splatoon games + dlc, but never touched the multiplayer. yes, we exist.
>>7387407902 dlc is a better singleplayer experience. 2 base singleplayer is far worse than 3’s
>>738743063meaning 2+dlc is a better singleplayer experience than 3 and SHOULD be played before 3.
>>738739969Raiders will be ironically the best way to get into splatoo as it has no PvP so you don't get "tryhards" bullshit.
>>738743181No, 3+dlc is better than 2+dlc. But 2 dlc is the best. So yes, play that first, but a lot of people on here are poor, so the added context is worthwhile
>>738742914>>738743305I don’t get this complaint. The game has ranked matchmaking (unless you play turf war, maybe? But turf war is ass once the novelty wears off)
>>738742938And theyre correct
>>738744371lol, no they aren’t, they’re just your typical nostalgia fag. Splatoon 1 had some nice aspects, but it was also a mess that was losing its new IP buff by the end
I can’t wait for this game
I wonder what over the top finale they have planned this time. The team really knows how to create a set piece
>>738739969Cut your cock off.
>>738747760>cut your cock off to enjoy the squid sluts gameBad advice
>>738743334>No, 3+dlc is better than 2+dlc. But 2 dlc is the best.This. If you have the opportunity and means you should play all of it. But 2's base game story is not stellar. The DLC does a lot of heavy lifting for 2. Meanwhile 3's base game and DLC are both great even if 2's DLC is better than both.
>>738742382i enjoyed salmon runs. its basically cod zombies but you shoot fish instead. dont think i've ever played pvp and i dont think most of the playerbase does either.
>>738739969Play it. It's a multiplayer focused game and Splatoon 3 is currently the most active one.
The only people who hate 3 are the people who played way too much. 3 is great. play 3.
>>738752174I’ve played it way too much and still love it. I think a lot of hate is from rose tinted glasses. And it does lack its own big new thing. 1 was brand new, 2 had Salmon Run, 3 is more iterative. And that’s not a problem, it’s the best, but I can see a certain type being dissatisfied
I'm so tired of the "choose your style" instead of just "choose your gender." I get it, if you're a big corporation, you have to bend the knee to all this faggot shit because all the kids identify as some branch of brain damaged gender identity in place of a personality they barely had in the first place, but it's so fucking tiresome to see it in literally every single game. No clear and obvious male or female appearance, just a person shaped thing that you have to infer gender on.
>>738752381Can’t imagine giving a fuck. It allows me to create long haired guys and short haired girls. It’s a benefit, if you’re not mentally cucked by culture wars
How many copies do you think this thing will sell in its first weekend in Japan? Nips go nutty for these games
>>738752381I hate it too. But people kind of overlook how Splatoon isn't just asking you to choose the gender of the character, but also what species it is. As one singular choice. Either you'd need to split it up into one Male/Woman choice and one separate Squid/Octo choice. Two choices. Or you'd just have one screen with all options. But then you would need to adjust the language because all of a sudden you're choosing multiple things at once.
>>738752517That's fine in theory, but Legends ZA is the best most recent example of this shit where you think "oh hey more customization options, that's cool, I'm sure they'll have a nice amount of things that look good on both male and female styles or both" but it's just everything looks good on girls and some shit looks okay on guys but would look better on girls. This resulted in everyone just picking the male and dressing them up like a girl and going "hehe femboy" which appears to just be what any video game with customization that Nintendo makes is going for. You can either make a cute girl, or cute boy (feminine).
>>738753992I don’t really care what other people did with another game. ZA having shit variety in clothing is its own problem. Splatoon does not have that problem
>>738739969i have over 1k hours in splat 3
>>738744302PvP always devolves into "tryhards" galore, unless you are into that you will always end up frutrated and mad. Hell, it's the reason why Marvel Rivals is working in expand its PvE mode, they realized people enjoy the game more when they don't have to deal with "tryhards" and "meta", this is also why Highdivers 2 was so sucessful and there was massive backslash against the nerfs because "WHY THE FUCK YOU NEED TO NERF WEAPONS IN A PVE GAME?!"
>>738739969Is Splatoon the evolution of Team Fortress 2?
I had so much more fun in splatoon 2 than 3.Everything vomits ink. They baby the charger and splating classes in map design, nerfing ninja squid by multiple means, and generally overtuning them.Everything is a hallway with sheer dropdowns so perched up classes can see your vector of approach from MILES away. It's so bad every special in the game has to be designed to kick classes off their unassailable perches. I KNOW S3's design lead just has to be a charger main that HATES being snuck up on. The fucking faggot ruined this for me
>>738754653>I had so much more fun in splatoon 2 than 3.I didn't. I super love the Octo Expansion, but beyond that Splat2 has easily been the lowpoint of Splatoon for me and by more than just a little. It's the worst of both worlds for me between Splat1 and Splat3.
>>738754653Someone misses their ink armor crutch>It's so bad every special in the game has to be designed to kick classes off their unassailable perchesNot true and directly conflicts with your “he’s a charger main” schtick. He’s clearly a shooter main anyway.
>>738754892I hated how it outed my sneaking without my permission, actually
>>738754892Shooters being strong and scrappy is just inherent to the concept moron.
>>738755729Yet he keeps buffing them, retard
>>738754653This. and the worst part is they kept Missiles. Ever notice how they completely gutted the Reef's concept of multilevel stages? It's because missile are retarded on it
>>738755798Yeah because pencil runined the game.
>>738756483And he should’ve stopped beating around the bush and significantly hit pencil long ago
Delete E-Liters and Chargers are fine.
>>738739969Read books on military tactics. They unironically help.
Surely they'll show off Marie in the next Raiders Direct.
>>738756798Design the maps so that they can be reliably snuck up on and chargers are no issue at all.Is a monstrous injustice that they get to see ninja squids swimming AND spot their drop down. And that fucking spawn launcher glow? Give me a fucking break.
>>738754536Nope. Splatoon is, unironically, a direct bastard descendant of grandpa Doom, skipping Quake entirely in its evolutionary path. Every other modern shooter has unmistakable Quake genes in it, but not really Splat.
>>738757250Yeah I hope s4 makes it so you can opt out of the launcher and spawn on the ground.
>>738743063>>738750591I think 2's base game story is more important to go through if you are skipping Splatoon 1's singleplayer. The big issue of 2 isn't that it's bad, it's just the same shit as 1.
>>738757253Meanwhile, Team Fortress is a direct descendant of Quake in the most literal sense, it started as a Quake mod.
>>738739969Go back in time and play Splatoon day 1.Anyone who didn't has an objective, not a subjective "old good new bad" thing, but an objective worse experience of where the game is now.
>>738739969buy Raiders when it comes out and enjoy the single-player experience
>>738757349More important than 3’s storyline? Eh maybe. It gives you one game of seeing Octo conflict, but 3 gives you the original crew, complete with Agent 3, who is important, unlike the literal who Agent 4. And it gives context into every aspect of the story, a bit of octo feud, salmon run and setting up Deep Cut, the latter two being the most important for Raiders
>>738757047look at those inkers
>>738757528>day 1>missing out on the test fireyou’re not getting the peak splatoon experience
>>738739969How do I get into inklings
>>738757630Oh I don't think it's necessarily more important that 3's story as a whole, or even better. But if you think you are going to go through 2 anyway you may as well start there and actually play it.Also if you don't play the main story of 1 or 2, the bait and switch of 3 is much less enjoyable.
>>738757715What do you think "Day 1" means, if there was nothing before release then hopping in close to release would be fine.
the storyline in splatoon is like plot in pornyou fucking skip ityou're here for gameplay
>>738757642Yes, they're quite mesmerizing.
>>738757809The storyline was peak in octo expansion though.
>>738757787I was mostly joking around as a way to reminisce about the test fire, but day 1 often also means launch day
>>738739969get HRT at your local pharmacist just like most splatoon players who are fans of the franchise
Am I the only one that thinks charge hold is just entirely unnecessary as a concept for the charger class? Because without it they have in place a just fine balanced weakness. The worst thing is that they up and gave it to a SPLATLING.Thats improper as a fucking concept. Fuck Naut. Things need to get marked for death of something when they use it
>>738757809It’s a fun vehicle for wacky shenanigans and some kino moments. Nothing to take seriously, but it can have a small emotional hit when a particularly good credits song plays
>>738757769All very true anon, good point. The answer to OP really depends on how deep he wants to go
>>738757891Well, I meant literal day 1 but I suppose you're right.I barely slept so that I could play as much of the test fire as I could and got pissed my friend was featured for winning on a dev's team when I was destroying online thanks to caffeine. After finishing 3 I wish I got that same level of dedication at some point.
No one even plays this franchise here. Every thread I see about this game is just some avatarfag dumping his twitter images folder.
I really wish you could play octo expansion without having to purchase 2 to play it
>>738758220hey anon, look up
>>7387582702 has better maps than 3
>>738757935charge hold is a fun and largely impractical option for skill expression, most of the time you can just take the shot normally, and most of the rest of the time you're putting yourself into a lot of peril if you're not hitting that shotyou also used to pay for it by losing scoped chargers' little bit of extra range and paint, but now they've been normalized, which was a mistake desulet chargers have fun toonaut is, quite literally, marked for death when charge holding, it fucking glowsand for how good charge hold is for a splatling, charge hold unsquid still takes extra time, and it can't recover ink or use subs while holding charge either, so it's still majorly disadvantaged compared to baisic shooters
>>738739969>be 10>see marie dancing>fall in lovethat's it
>>738753651I'd guess at least a million. Might be a bit high but I think there's hope behind it.
>>738758875I think it clears one million easy. 2 sood nearly 700k in 3 days with a lower install base and while the series was still growing in popularity. I think two million is a safer bet
>>738758348>charge hold is a funI don't disagree>largely impractical option for skill expressionbull fucking shit. Peaking a corner vs peaking a corner by charge holding out a character width to pop out and blast a guy is not "impractical". It's a powerful mixup.
Splatoon 3s story absolutely did not give context into every aspect of the storyNothing about the octarian side of the war was actually focused on and hardly a single thing about salmon run was even mentioned at allWe get one throwaway line from the logs talking about what mr grizz maybe used the golden eggs for, but ultimately not a single thing about splatoon 3s story had anything at all to do with salmon runSplatoon 3s story was just "what if we did octo expansion but AGAIN since everyone LOVED it so much" forgettinf that octo expansion was really good because the story was good and the gameplay was new and being able to play as an octoling was huge in the context of the gameSplatoon 3 just took the gameplay aspect and forgot to integrate it into the world in a way that makes any sense at allMost of the story literally nothing happensIn fact i would even say splatoon 3s story had nothing to do with anything at all in the slightestA "conclusion" to the octarian conflict but the octarians arent the focus at allJust enemy fodder for the sake of enemy fodderMaking mr grizz the villain by making him act entirely different from how he normally does and giving him almost the exact same motive as tartar from octo expansion, which they repeat AGAIN in side orderOrca served absolutely no purpose in the story
Chargers and splatlings should have a off-pov *kasheen* effect when they achieve full charge.
>>738757869when you think of it, it's a total farce>tartar calls out 8, and cephkind in general, for following in humans' footsteps to a t (humans nuked themselves out of existence)>sets out to nuke inkopolis to send a message (we knew that there are more settlements than just inkopolis back then already)>is there a moral? is he right? was exposure to grandpa cuttlefish enough for 8 to consider saving the city?>lmao no, you have no agency and get no message, magical superpowered lesbian idol * power to the rescue <з every single singleplayer so far has been fucked over by last minute idol takeovers, and in oe especially it muddles the entire message
>>7387597502/?The stupid little salmonid you have with you doesnt matter at all and killing mr grizz doesnt matter at all because you can just go back and play more salmon run anywayThey imply lil judd takes over and then do absolutely nothing at all with thatThe premise of "this one bear survived the spaceship crashlanding to earth and got hyperintelligent because it dreamed a lot while in cryostasis" is the stupidest premise everDeep cut served absolutely no role in the story no matter how you look at it
>>738756926This! Sun Tuzu didn't write "The Art of Turf War" for nothing after all.But yeah, start with Splatoon 3! It gives you the full Splatoon package. It's a ton of fun, both on your own and with friends.
>>738757250>they get to see ninja squids swimmingThey can see me?
>>738759467it's a commital and rather expensive mixupunsquid buffer with charge is half a second, plus swimming itself, you're baisically charging twice and likely ruining your positioning for a pick, so it better be fucking worth itgoing trad charger plain lets you do more
>>738759867Splatoon 3s story couldnt decide what it wanted to focus on so it tried to cover everything and ended up covering literally nothingIf the sunken scrolls and the themeing if the game were anything to go by, they shouldve focused on deep cut and the history of the three clans and on the splatlands and not a bunch of other new things that came out of nowhere that they had to rush a connection to everything for
>>738759750>if you ignore and downplay everything it touches on, it doesn't touch on anything at all!Sure man. And nothing happens in any splatoon story until the end. And Order’snmotivation is hardly the same as Grizz or Tartar
>>738759852Thats not what tartar didThe point was that tartar idolized the hell out of humanityAnd misinterpreted what they were likeCriticizing us for focusing on stupid things like fashion trends and fighting for stupid reasons when thats exactly what humans didThe "message" was that this thing was insane and couldnt see its hypocrisy"Enough for 8 to save the city" how about the fact that they were literally about to be killed and wanted nothing more but to go to the surface and has nothing else going for them
>>738754536its a much faster game that requires less direct coordination. the time to kill is also lower
>>738759750>but ultimately not a single thing about splatoon 3s story had anything at all to do with salmon runI kind of liked that. It's not as if the game said nothing about Salmon Run. Even if the game didn't provide some grand Salmon Run story, the Salmon Run mode itself did give lots and lots of clues as to what Salmon Run was or wasn't. And then you had the story mode, that was primarily focused on the whole Alterna stuff and its human connection. And then the Alterna stuff and the Salmon Run stuff intersected. And that was kind of rad.
>>738760094Okay heres what their motives were: lets erase all of this current species to make MY ideal species/stae of existenceTartar: wanted to kill everyone and recreate its idealized species, forcing people to become mindless zombies in the processGrizz: wanted to kill everyone and recreate his idealized species, forcing people to become mindless zombies in the process (mind you, they dont talk about why fuzzy ooze can even do that bexause its a stupid ass plot)Order: wants to basically lobotomize everyone and turn everyone into mindless zombies into what it thinks is the idealized state of being. Also happens to be an ai like tartar was
>>738760451But that's because MY ideal > your ideal.
>>738760138he idolized humans, but he also knew exactly what lead to their downfall despite how great they werethat's why he called cephs out for being just as vapid and violentthe plan was to nuke inkopolis to demonstrate his power and then keep standby as a neutral peacekeeping threattartar was insane, but tartar was also rightand 8 could've escaped to the surface and then fucked off in a makeshift boat to the nearest shore because fuck these guys over there she's never seen them
>>738739969just buy three and play it squigga.it's easy.
>>738760451grizz is a 12k year old virgin, all he wanted was some warm mammalian pussy
>>738760431There literally wasnt a salmon run connection to alterna thoughAlterna being remnants of humanity wouldve worked if all of it wasnt clearly built for us inklings to utilize freelyNone of the testing stages fit in with alterna at allThey simply do not make sense nor is there even a good reason for there to be testing to begin withThe only thing was that ark polaris was the spaceship that crashed that mr grizz came from and that wasnt even a part of alterna, mr grizz found alterna from the ships gps system or whatever
>>738760080>going from 2 dimensions visually to poping out of that 2nd dimension to blast some fag with little endlag as opposed to strafing in the 3rd dimensionCharger apologetics man.
>>738760451Order didn’t want to recreate the species in his image. He was just an extreme extension of Marina’s desire to keep things from changing. So the motives are meaningfully different, despite similar execution
>>738740441squiggers like you should be fried
>>738760050They put an initial startup wake on ninja and eddies are visible as you swimThe latter isn't unfair or anything though. The former is.
Heres a good nerf for charger and spaltling: Direct hits with the line marker vacate their charge
>>738746360>subs are usually R>but we technically due two subs with gadgets>no special to be seen>but relic powersvery strange. intrigued. need more info.
A big problem splatoon has as a whole is that instead of giving us lore in game theyll do exclusive dev interviews to explain huge worldbuilding and plot things and maybe put info in japanese artbooks instead of into the game so they can just retcon anything they want whenever they want, i guess
Someone tell me if I'm on some stupid, but I've started considering Splatoon 3 as "The best shooter as long as I'm playing it"If I'm thinking about what to play, Splat3 rarely comes up, but once it does I start to think about how great splatoon is and get really into it.And then I get my fill and put it down.Does anyone know what I'm talking about?
Splatoon 2 is undergoing server amintenance. Don't bother booting up till next rot
>>738752381>, if you're a big corporation, you have to bend the knee to all this faggot shit becauseNo you absolutely do NOT need to cowtow to antiwhiteism. stop making excuses for them.
>>738761190Oh, to clarify, I don't consider other games on the level of splatoon, I really think it is one of the best shooters out today.
>>738761174Even disregarding outside sources, splatoon 3 including side order did a horrible job with the plotLike an established bit of canon was that sanitized octolings are made up from the sanitization goop and are functionally not aliveAnd they just retconned that completely in side orderAnd thats why making mr grizz the big final boss for splatoon 3 was the literal stupidest possible thing they couldve done because the reason for salmon run literally just boiled down to "get eggs just because, i guess?" and now that lil judd is supposedly in charge its just like. Okay so what the hell did we do all that for thenLike none of that meant anythingIf there were salmonids in alterna MAYBE it couldve matteredIf anything at all actually had anything to do with salmon run and not just that you have a smallfry with youThe most appealing thing about mr grizz is that he was a mysteryAnd given the way tartar functioned, there is absolutely no feasibly way that it wouldnt have known about ark polaris or alterna
>>738761157Special seems to be tied to the bot buddy (ie riding big manta, summoning master mega). No idea about relic powers though. I think they may become inherent abilities, but whether they’re universal things everyone gets from a boss or just slots that unlock and can be customized, like with this double jump, who knows
>>738739969why do they lock the pve mode behind level progression. i don't want to play pvp to get to lvl 4 just so i can unlock pve. it's fucking dumb.i got a week of free nintendon't online when i got this game, but playing pvp was hell. i ended up just dropping the game by the time my free week was over.
>>738761157>>738761546Actually, looking at it, the relic power is also octagonally shaped. So it seems basically guaranteed that you can customize them abilities you get from treasure anywhere in the map, and you probably unlock new slots from the bosses. And yeah, they seem to be power ups instead of things assigned to a new input on your controller. This game has a fuckton of build options
>>738760656Also that was blatantly not tartars plan at all, as tartar itself specifically tells you that it was created to pass down humanitys knowledge to the next dominant species, but tartar decided we werent worthy of that
How long do you think Raiders campaign will be?
>>738761567first 4 levels of pvp are baisically a tutorial letting you figure out the controls and mechanicsturf war is too casual to count as pvp as it distinctly lacks in the versus aspect, it's kinda like playing hightower in tf2 where everyone just fucks around and you get kicked for actually pushing the cart
>>738761737weren't worthy of that yetif he just gave vapid and violent squids blueprints to the retrowave cannon they'd go and, dunno, blast all of salmon back to fish age
>>738761497>Like an established bit of canon was that sanitized octolings are made up from the sanitization goopThat’s not correct. Like obviously incorrect, because Acht was partially sanitized. For someone who is yapping a ton about the story, that’s a huge thing to have wrong
>>738756798just make it so only gootuber can hold its charge just like splat1. it's retarded that base and e-liter can save charges.
>>738761764Probably about 10 hours to beat, 20 to 100%, give or take
>>738739969you can start by taking hrt, sister
>>738757253explain your reasoning. i'm intrigued.
>>73876176420 hours since it's a single player focused game. I'm really hoping that the multiplayer is engaging enough that I could play it for hundreds of hours.
>>738761706I think those are special spirhalite crystals on its back. Probably what gives you the new upgrade for relic powers
>>738762003Okay so i was wrong about them being made up from the goop itself, but another issue with acht is that they canonically were willingly sanitized and then they act like they didnt make that choice themself
the fact that people are complaining about charge hold, of all things, really tells me the level of play the dudes here are atlike, bitch, 3 has maps that are so fucking wide open that you can glue a charger to the ground during charge and he'll still wipe the enemy team if left uncheckedcharge holding is strong, but it's also niche and takes restraint to not use when it's not actually needed, if someone's using it for every shot they are actively crippling themselves, ergo, only shitty chargers do it often enough for guys like you to noticeit's kind of like jump revving with heavy in tf2, low-grade players use it all the time because they don't know any better but strong ones know that it's a niche aggressive option that you have to be able to both afford and justify to even consider (slightly less cool than charge hold though)not even goob uses charge hold much, and its hold is giga buffed- it's got a short buffer, it's got charge-strafing, it's got enough duration to use rolls and surges, it can be held whenever, and goob still uses raw 100s, partials and torp combos for its bread and butter
>>738761497>And thats why making mr grizz the big final boss for splatoon 3 was the literal stupidest possible thing they couldve done because the reason for salmon run literally just boiled down to "get eggs just because, i guess?" and now that lil judd is supposedly in charge its just like. Okay so what the hell did we do all that for then>claims to be a lore expert>gets everything wrongshut upfry yourself. The eggs were explictly gathered because they are a power source. this IS told to us in two.li'l judd keeps grizzco running to hasrvest energy for his own evil ploys (also hinted towards heavily) illiterate squigger READ
>>738762575>they canonically were willingly sanitized and then they act like they didnt make that choice themselfOr ya knowlater regretted it after seeing 8 work towards freedom.nigger
>>738762575Yeah, you really don’t know what you’re talking about if you’re getting basic shit like that wrong, so you shouldn’t keep spouting nonsense. In what way did they act like Acht didn't choose to be partially sanitized? She wakes up in the simulation and tries to rescue Marina. That’s all
>>738760092Sunken scrolls aren’t meant to be full-on lore dumps, they’re suppose to be small tidbits to explain different aspects of the game and that’s it. You can sum up the scrolls with “here’s why/how [x] is.” They’re not there to give you a full-on lore history of each of the clan’s history, just enough to explain how frye can control eels and shit. Besides, it would ruin the magic if they overshared and left nothing to speculation
I love Raiders because it let me to a chain of events that made me discover this artist who draws juicy Frye (and sometimes other splatoon girls) pretty much every day.
>>738763165Why is she so big?
>>738740673Yes, just play 3. Play story and then start doing turf wars/salmon runs. Ignore that guy, he’s probably poor so he emulates
>>738763350Because she IS big, her 3d model is stacked for the standards they have to that artstyle.
>>738763557meant big as in tall. camera angle makes you look ant sized compared to her
>>738742382Fun. Lots of fun.
>>738753651I wonder if this game being a lower price and singleplayer focused will onboard a lot of new players in the west

As someone already into splatoon, is there a way to get gyro aim like splatoon in other games via Steam input or something? Literally nothing else does gyro like splatoon does because its method kinda necessitates a camera reset button, but that's how I built up my muscle memory.
>>738765921It kind of sucks compared to Splatoon's reset button, but on Steam you can configure a gyro on-off toggle button. And you can turn off the gyro and re-adjust your gyro before quickly turning it back on. It's not as good but you can become pretty quick and comfortable with it somewhat easily anyway.

>>738769862Ah, I forgot that was in the direct, good call out. And you’re probably right, relics powers and gadgets(though likely maxed at two pretty early) could be one of the main things limited/enabled by tank variety. Makes more sense than a boss upgrade, and those dangling charms are most likely relics. Hadn’t pieced that all together yet. Cool, thanks anon! Makes me wonder if we do get any unique upgrades from the bosses, or just progress and some a powerful relic or something
>>7387675653>2>12 had the best campaign, though.

I never played a Splatoon game. Am I good to buy raiders and do it live or should I try to play the other games single player beforehand?
>>738815974>should I try to play the other games single player beforehand?I think you should, but you could probably go into raiders just having read a plot synopsis of 3
>>738815974I imagine that Raiders will probably be a good entry point. But naturally playing Splatoon 3's story mode, at the very least, would give a lot of context. Playing some of the "Salmon Run" mode wouldn't hurt either. But I doubt it'll be all that necessary. But Splatoon 3 is great fun either way.
>>738815974Raider's story is almost certainly going to be self-contained, it's not gonna get bogged down by the past decade of lore. It'll probably only assume you're aware of who the salmon enemies are. If you're not aware of the salmon enemies, here's the QRD:>There are salmon enemies called Salmonid. They're basically orc invadersok you're good

>>738816473Knowing who Shiver, Frye, and Bigman are, going into the game, might be kind of cool. But I also imagine that Raiders will be more than sufficient in letting players get to know them all. I mean, you'll probably get to know them better in Raiders than you ever did in Spaltoon 3 even.
I'm sure it can be enjoyed as a standalone game, but its definitely mostly people who are already fans of the series buying it.At the least, get and play splatoon 3 since it involves the idol troupe of that game, and try the online while at it.
>>738816724I recall people talking about how they damn near play second fiddle in their own debut game. Honestly I thought Nintendo was going to drop them like a rock, so this is a pleasant surprise because I actually like them.
Splatoon peaked at the Callie vs Marie splatfest, sorry to say. It won't get better than that ever.

>>738816939Same. I can't say I like them as much as the other groups, but they're still a fun group of idiots and having an adventure with them sounds like a grand old time. I'd rather they get a game and some spotlight over the other two again.>>738817825>not peaking at Grand Festival

>>738821215*makes me believe they didn't get any betterI need sleep
>>738821215a lot of the maps have had big changes and play a bit betterthe latter half of post launch maps are also much better in general
>>738821215The game approved a lot. But some people just keep insisting otherwise.
>>738752381i dont care for all the culture war bs, i just think it's terrible UIthe point of character customization is to be able to customize your character (wow), and if you have to add a "listen to them speak" button just to be able to tell which is a boy and which is a girl then you've just made terrible ui for the 99.9% that just want to choose one or the other>>738753690s2 just made it four options. i reckon you could solve the problem real easy by just idk, adding little icons. little icons which by the way are already in the splatoon fonts! both fonts already have male/female symbols, you can use them for free and the problem is instantly solved
>>738821215Roughly halfway or so through the lifespan of the game, they finally stopped adding tetris maps and had more variety and also brought back a few of the better one from past games. But the shit ones are still there so 3 will forever be tainted by them. But the game still plays the best out of all of them, and the specials aren't horribly OP like in 2 so it's fine. Salmon run is much better than in 2 so that's my main appeal. I still miss Lost Outpost and Ark Polaris, though.
>>738821590I guess you could. But I wouldn't fault anyone for thinking it's unnecessary. Especially alongside the audio cues. If it's already obvious, then how much more detail is needed? That said. I wouldn't mind the menu looking like that.
>>738821590>complaining about being able to make truly androgynous woomies
>>738821215Maps were the main issue, though they got better post-launch. Devs actually acknowledged player criticism of the maps at one point, which is unheard of for NIntendo. Second biggest thing I remember everyone bitching about was kits. Each main weapon only had two kits total, and for some weapons you had to wait two whole years for the second to even be added to the game. They did eventually add third kits for a few weapons, to coincide with the NS2 patch, but at that point it was too little to late for most. Not much else to report beyond that, the specials weren't total cancer like in 2 and weapon balance wasn't an issue outside of a couple small pain points.
>>738821590>you can use them and the problem is instantly solvedWhy do you think the problem exists in the first place? They got rid of male/female player options deliberately, to appease the non-binary crowd.
>>738821426Which maps do you think benefited the most? I feel like Umami went from bad to genuinely good. And mincemeat went from absolutely abominable shit to bad (and even good in a mode or two)
>>738821804it doesn't have to be necessary if there's other obvious cues, in 3 you had the fact both had different default hairstyles (though people i know still got confused by it), in this game they're the same (unless you know to look for the eyebrows) so the voice button is a necessary standin that just feels clunky, having to go over each one and hear them speak for something that could have been made very simple i reckon>>738821936i think being able to use boy&girl hairstyles interchangeably is good! my point is that this ui requires a doubletake for the 99% only to appease a 0.01% that will likely still not be happy, right? after all the choice is still "boy or girl", in the end. it's not really fooling anyone per se. so if the point of some UI is being able to customize your character then i think it should be made easy to customize your character, right? you don't have to even say "boy or girl" per se but it has to be obvious through clues at least, having to hover over each option, press Y, then evaluate whether this gibberish sounds male or female to you, is not particularly good UI to me>>738822291but does it, though? did splatoon 2 have problems with people for having the boy/girl options clearly labeled as opposed to obscured? are there people who think that because it doesn't say it they're suddenly not boys and girls anymore? as in, beyond random nobodies' tweets of "omg splatoon 3 logo is the nonbinary pride flag colors"i don't believe that anyone takes these obscured gender select screens at face value and just go "oh ok i guess they dont have gender then"
>>738822426definitely umami, crazy to me that such a big overhaul was a footnote in the patchnotes and didn't get proper advertisement. unlike hammerhead, which gave us a cute callie drawing but barely changed the map at all outside of zones

Swapping into new gear for no real reason other then staying fresh is half the appeal. I dont like the catalog, but mostly because half of it is junk filler stuff like every other battle pass.
>>738824967Arbitrarily locking stuff like that behind a timelock is never a good thing, anon. Especially when it takes forever for a specific pass to come back. I play the game all the time still, and there have been seasons where I only just barely complete it. At least when stuff is in the item shop pools, there's a chance literally every day where you could find it and buy as many of one item as you want. What if somebody wants more than one of a specific battle pass item but you have to wait a longass time to get just one more? It's so stupid, completely against what player freedom should be. The catalogs are nothing but a shallow attempt to "retain" a playerbase and are the main reason so many people burned out on 3 in the first place. Nobody likes feeling forced to a play a game, there's a reason gacha is so reviled.>muh super special clubThis place hasn't been a special club in a long time, but that's no reason to talk like a faggot.

>>738838962>Hearing that term for years now and I'm still not sure what it means.it means you shoot and extract

>>738837579let me guess gold aerospray?
>>738838962Basically you enter a map to try to get loot and get out. There’s usually both pvp and pve, and you risk losing what you take in. This seems to be doing the enter a map for loot thing, but no pvp, and likely no resource loss, though maybe you’ll drop what you grab on the map if you die. We did see lives in the Ui, if I remember right. food anagrams
>>738838076that's normal for splatoon threads
>>738839081gold aerosprays are integral to victory

>>738839094Ah okay, that's why it isn't just a traditional looter shooter or whatever. Not sure I quite agree that's where it's going, but having dungeons and all makes it a definite possibility. Having high difficulty ones for endgame runs sounds like it could be pretty fun, if they're invested enough time into the upgrade loop.>food anagramsOh shit, you're right. Spata, though....tapas?

>>738838962greed about Side Order. It had a nice balance of pre run and mid run build variety, and it’s probably my favorite implementation of meta progression. So many are overbearing and feel tuned to be unfun without upgrades. Fucking hades has a mechanic that tries to force a loss on you if you’re doing too well too early

>>738839235>>738839262guarantee my winrate on aerospray mogs anything you have, and im not even talking about turf war

>>738839246I do understand some of the criticisms but calling it bad just seems shitty because it flows really nicely. The only thing that really gets my tits is taking that gamble on a hacked floor and getting the no Pearlbot shit when you've invested heavily in her. But that's just part of the game, really.>Fucking hades has a mechanic that tries to force a loss on you if you’re doing too well too earlyWow.>>738839280I choose to believe I am right.
>>738839206This makes me pretty confident in the game’s structure. The lives and treasure search both just makes sense for it
>>738839389ngl i dont know how to see the winrate, help me out
>>738839425It's just making me want that direct more and more. It's more than likely coming in June but fuck, I gotta KNOW.
>>738839472I don't know either and I thought you posting it would let me know where its shown

Aww, it's about to die. And what a nice thread it became. Always nice actually talking bout the game for once. But gimme that direct, goddammit.
Hmm, "for once" may not have been the best phrasing. More like there were enough people to do it.
>>738839578lol it might be freshness but I'm not 100% sure
Sweet, that's all the ones I wanted to post.
