Modern audience gaming FLOPS of 2026 (so far):January:>HighguardFebruary:>Relooted>High on Life 2March:>Marathon>1348 Ex Voto>Life is Strange: ReunionApril:>Aphelion>SarosMay:>Mixtape>Directive 8020What's up next?
>>738745067That Horizon live service game is coming up soon, right?
Who the fuck funds all this shitHow do you take this shit to investors and actually trick them into thinking this'll pull a profitI actually don't get it
>>738745067Saaros is aiming for a flop or at least a strong underperfrom. I'd also add POP reboot, which technically was a pre release cancelation. So farm Marathon is the undisputed king of the flops, losing over a quarter billion fucking dollars and rising.
>>738745216Investors are fucking retarded.IIRC nintendo had to politely call them all retarded in a letter when people kept demanding information about pokemon and when they complained that nintendo talked too much about future game development plans instead of stocks.
>>738745216Investors don't play games, they just look at graphs all daySo if you show up and show a nice graph of projections and talk nice like>We're hitting every inclusivity note, we project that players and journalists are gonna love our cast diversity and options, just like Baldur's Gate 3 or [POPULAR TITLE HERE]Then they'll all fall for it, plain and simple
>>738745216What >>738745576 said. Investors are dumber than chimps. They do no research into the markets they invest in, they just see 1 successful thing with high revenue and assume it is a money printer without actually finding out what the actual expenses are.
>>738745216Give $2 million to studio to make DEI productReceive $4 million from Blackrock for DEI initiative
>>738745216Investors are inbred kikes they really are that stupid.
>>738745067that UE5 Lego Batman game
>>738745216OP's example is retarded because Supermassive has made Until Dawn, Man of Medan, Little Hope, House of Ashes, The Quarry, Devil in Me and Little Nightmares III. Why would they *not* get a publisher for their first Dark Pictures Anthology game in four years?
>>738746135>HenchpersonWhich bright color haired mentally ill troglodyte wrote this?
>>738746135>henchpersonKEKAROOOOOOO
>>738746187What? OP's pic is based on flop, not whether they got a publisher. Ex Voto's budget is probably that of Marathon's toilet paper budget. Both deserve to be on the list.
>High on Life 2>modern audienceIsn't it made by that Rick & Morty sex pest that shitlibs cancelled?
>>738746608>OP's pic is based on flopIt came out literally today.
>>738745216>games take years to make>first wave of DEI slop falls into the abyss of failure>too late for second wave to change coursekek what a doomed feeling that must be
>>738745067A lot of people enjoy laughing at games failing more than playing video games and it's interesting
>>738746907I take a break from playing good games to laugh at bad games
>>738746768And it already flopped? Damn that sucks
>>738746768Let's not kid ourselves, it is absolutely going to flop.
>>738746907You don't have time for both?
>>738746768How high do you imagine it will go?
>>738747081the bulk are certainly on ps5 but i’m sure it’s still not much
>>738746969Oh you're a bot, forgive me.>>738747000>>738747081Dark Pictures games are incredibly cheap to produce and all reiterate the same tech used since Until Dawn. It's why the Season 1 games all released within a year of each other, all developed in about 6 months. House of Ashes and The Quarry specifically sold extremely well for the genre (and for the second anon: these games sell most on console). You're nuts if you think a moviegame appealing to normies in a Dead Space setting will do worse than fucking Little Hope.
It's so tragic that this game is going to flop because it's a bad game but Supermassive will only laser in on the people calling it bad because of the ugly protagonist and we'll never get anything on par with Until Dawn or House of Ashes ever againGamers lose when grifters fight grifters
>>738747253You're retarded. Until dawn was literally lightning in a bottle, you cant just recreate it because people will view it as an inferior version of something that already exists.
>>738747243So just to be clear, your definition of it flopping in this case is if it does worse than Little Hope?
>>738747443A competent studio could make a worthy successor in a stagnant media climate. If House of Ashes had a bigger budget and proper advertising it would have eclipsed Until Dawn by opening up the interactive-movie genre to an even broader audience.
>>738747451>>738747081If that's the case, it needs almost 2,000 additional players to show up today, unless we believe that it'll pass 5,000 on a day other than the release date.
It topped out at #381 for the 24h peak on the day of release. I wouldn't bet on this horse.
>>738745216tax write offyou can pretend the game is for societal improvement or some shit
>>738747451My definition of it flopping is it being a worse game and forgotten a week after release instead of being another Until Dawn/House of Ashes, yeah.
>>738748020>You're nuts if you think a moviegame appealing to normies in a Dead Space setting will do worse than fucking Little Hope.So by "do worse" you're not talking about sales at all? Because sales are what people mean when they talk about something flopping.
>>738748116I mean sales as well, it'd be bad for a studio if its new game doesn't outsell a six year old one (although Little Hope might've been helped by the pandemic). It's just that on top of that, Little Hope has genuinely one of the worst narratives I've seen in a videogame.
>>738747443House of Ashes got really close though. There's a reason that game stands out all these years later above every other Dark Anthology title.
>>738747723Your console sales?
I'm surprised how well Dispatch ended up selling, because it seemed like most people were done with moviegames now that they'd played them enough to see that "Your choices matter" is a fucking lie . They still might be fun to watch a playthrough of, but that doesn't translate to sales.
>>738748432Please don't start that cope, anon. "What about console sales?" has only ever been used when something is flopping. Everyone sees through it now.
>>738747182>>738748432always those elusive console sales that totally make games that get sub 10k on pc massive successes for the studios...if only snoy and microsoft showed numbers so the studios could gloat about their success, its not fair..
>>738748568>>738748576So no console sales number?
>>738748742We don't do that on consoles
>>738748742I hope this cope still brings you comfort, anon.
>>738748742>>738748432In case anyone's wondering, this is what's called a "loaded question". The point is not to gain information but rather to act as an implied accusation while still retaining plausible deniability. The implied accusation here being that not pointing to console sales (which are not available), we're disingenuously hiding evidence that proves the game is not a flop.Once you notice questions like this, you can't unnotice them.
>>738745216The expected return from 1/10 games becoming a global hit is greater than the expected loss of 9/10 games being flops. It's just a numbers game.
>>738745067High on Life is modern audience / woke?
Supermassive's games are comfy ludo.
>Be PCissies>smallest market>smaller than even Xbox at its lowest>use your tiny little piece of the pie to claim ownage over devs>wonder why hate campaigns fail every timeKek do you clowns unironically FEEL in charge? Its very adorable ngl
>>738750405Meanwhile, in reality: everything in the OP has flopped.
>>738750405>why hate campaigns fail every timeBut enough about Hogwarts Legacy.
>>738750405Most people try to at least couch their lies in something resembling the truth.
>>738746135>henchpersonThis is shopped, r-right?
>>738745067All western
>>738746335isn't this actually pro-male and not the typical anti-male jewish feminism
Super massive is just discount David Cage, where it's just b movie horror slop where your choices don't matter.Compare it to kino like Detroit become human where you get like 10 paths and 10 endings and make make pretentious people seethe.
>>738745067I think Mixtape is getting pushed through but that's pretty funny, we have a good record this season ngl
>>738754126Not sure why but I imagined someone named David Cage to look like Nathan Drake
>>738745067Anyone has played Directive 8020 already?I want to know if it will have proper coop like the other games. I'm not expecting another King-kino like House of Ashes but it's not like there's much competition in the genre...>>738754126your choices DO matter, if you get the right QTEs you can kill all women and minorities.
>>738754569I just finished playing and, yes, it does have a coop option.
>>738755314nice, Im playing it with my friend with hamachi
>>738745216Wokeslop will continue until morale improves.
