>That time Konami did DMC x Super Sentai x Wizard of Oz x Volleyball
>It was kino
In a genre where DMC, NG and Bayonetta reign, it's easy to forget all these lesser games forgotten to time.
I just finished Sword of Etheria (aka Over Zenith) and thought it was really cool. Can't even call it jank because all the systems work as intended. It's just a plain good game with some things it could improve upon. And the aesthetics and music are really good. Plenty of content and reasons to replay. It's not exactly DMC, despite me using it as a reference, in fact it tries to somewhat be it's own thing, but i think it achieved being a pretty competent action game, frantic and hectic, gives a nice state of flow trying to beat the stages as best as you can to get a good ranking at the end.
If i had to find a reason why it isn't as well regarded is because it wasn't released in America, only in Europe.
Anyway, what are some other lesser known action games you are fond of?

What is it about Oz that draws in the Samurai?

That's because they're trash. Even "the big three" are severely flawed.

It's a moody and surreal atmospheric game. A lot of the appeal comes from the music or the stages that can be somewhat unnerving or eriee. The gameplay itself is on the easier side, but it shines because of how unique it is. Less than combo autism, it's more about learning to use your moveset to move through the stages, a lot of enemies are floating so learning this is key. Each level has a unique objective that can range from "kill all enemies or boss" to "defend object" or "destroy all objects", and this is neat because the game has this thing where almost all the stage can be destroyed either with attacks or launching enemies. It's a pretty 'pick up and play' kind of game, it's easy to just pick up, do a mission and leave it. It's not overly long too, so it doesn't overstay.
2 in particular polishes a lot of the action bits with better bosses and control, but sacrifices some of that atmosphere and includes extra characters that are not as fun as Raikou, but still get to shine with an even better mission list.
It's a unique pair of games, really worth it.
