Wasn't 40 millions?
Anyway, see >>738761104

This is almost as bad as the GameCube game that looked like a PS2 game.
>>
>no voice acting
Good

Your imagination should fill in the gaps.

The game was made in the mid 90s for hardware that couldn't do much better than that OP

It was almost entirely through word of mouth. It was the first jrpg a lot of people played. At the time it felt new and fresh. Most people hadn't considered video games as a proper story telling medium yet. Everything was still very heavily bing bing wahoo.

Iconic science fantasy setting and characters. No game had an aesthetic like it before or since.

>models are its contemporary tier
weird complaint

>>738761904
That's the overworld model, the battle model is much more detailed, and the cutscene models are a step above that.

>no voice acting
ok
>models are n64 tier
with various expressions and movements.
this statement also excludes FMV models, battle models for enemies and party members, summons, spell & limit break effects
>soundtrack is still on par with the snes soundchip
soundtrack is pretty cheap
>gameplay is run-of-the-mill jrpg
materia combos is definitely not run-of-the-mill.
>ok looking pre rendered backgrounds
this one is pretty much non-argument since every PS1 JRPG had it during that time
>15 fps during combat for some reason
pretty sure this is intended for dramatic effect
>fmvs are ok for the time I guess
another non-argument
>garbage localization despite strong marketing
fun localization.
