Link is more versatile and has much more options than Cloud, since he is meant to be an adventurer with many tools for many situations. Cloud is a much more capable fighter with innate strength, speed, and durability due to the Jenova cells in him. His weapons are also enhanced by materias and he has access to summons that are basically demi-gods. Link’s shield is basically indestructible so he can put up a good defense, but I think he would eventually fall to Cloud’s overwhelming speed and dexterity.
