So now that is confirmed that Marathon was a success and is here to stay, are you guys jumping in for season 2?

>>738770475could be better, but not badis it free to play?
>>738770332I had a blast but it's the sweatiest most unapproachable game ever. They need to add a PvE mode
Sticky steam chart threads.
>>738770606>is it free to play? That'll be 40 shekels, sir.
>>738770332>paying for Destiny 2 PvPNo.
>>738770332>marathon>successWhat did it succeed at? Flopping?
this piece a shit f2p yet? not interested otherwise
Why don't they salvage the assets and make a single player campaign about weird clone niggas in space. They could call it "Marathon"
>>738771128It is the undisputed bomb of the year, losing over a quarter billion fucking dollars so far, and losing more every month. It's on the top 10 biggest bombs ever, easily, and probably top 5. I don't think there's anything else left this year with a budget big enough where it could even challenge this game for bomb of the year. And no, that's not counting the imparement losses that Sony admitted to having with Bungie.>>738771202Check again is a season or two.
>>738770668PVE mode would remove all tension, which would bring more players in but make for a shitter game.but it's clear that people want a less tense more gay experience.
>>738771237Or Mark A Troon.
>>738771237You can't salvage what was already salvaged
>>738770332I've been blasting for two months and will continue to blast until all the haters are scattered to the wind
>>738771512Just blasted a few minutes ago
>>738771380Come on man, put in a little more effort then that.
>>738770475When this baby hits 5k max they will declare marathon to be f2p
>>738771835Markahugeloss ?
>>738771083it's like 30% better than Destiny PvP but man I wish Bungie would just make a normal shooter again. I don't fucking want heroes or abilities or RPGification. I want the shooter part to feel good first and foremost, Marathon nearly actually hits that mark but the constant balancing problems the harebrained decision to force heroes in caused will keep the game from shining among other extraction shooters. In one of these games every character needs to be just as viable as the other and it just simply isn't so, there being any hierarchy whatsoever to the shells/heroes precludes the game from holding the extraction shooter crowd. You might keep the autists who like Destiny 2 buildcrafting for a bit, at least, until they realize there are more interesting RPG systems they could be playing around with. Another half-decent concept absolutely ruined by the beancounters chasing trends.
>>738770475Looks pretty great for a niche sweaty pvp game
>>738772105It's getting beat by all the other sweaty games. The bigger problem is the game's budget, both initial and ongoing.
Um guys... the destiny thread is getting more attention than us...
>>738772264Those ~10k players better be buying mtx out the ass or this game is done
>>738772105>700 millions impairment loss
>>738772409We know about how much they're making because of rev charts, and about how much they're spending on ongoing, Bungie has said that they aren't shifting people back to D2. It's do or die. So something on the order of 400 of the most expensive people in in the industry. We'll see how S2 goes, but they're definitely losing money every month for now.
>>738770332Ah, irony, how droll. Yes. Quite good, OP. Quite.
>>738770332ppl need to stop saying "the game is good, but..."If the game is good, people wouldn't have gotten bored with it so fast. It's not good, it's absolute dog shit and there's nothing redeemable about it.
I used to think f2p would save marathon but now I realize it won't. Literally no one cares about it and I bet of those 9000 in game right now a good percent are bots
>>738771349loads of PvE games have tension
the only think keeping this title afloat is Sony's reputation. They can't let it die too quick or else it would start a trend and look terrible for the company. They're going to keep it afloat for the year and kill it off quietly.
>>738770332the knife nerf kinda fucked me up ngl
>>738772105If every single one of those 9k players spends $77,700 in microtransactions, Sony will break even!
>>7387741570 of them have as much as PVP games, its the entire reason PVP in any game even exists.its fundamental competition drive in people, you feel bad when someone else is better than you.PVE is never as tense as PVP
>>738774304>They're going to keep it afloat for the year>would rather take a hit to their wallet, funding this dumpster fire than take a hit to their repuationI can respect that, but those investors meetings are going to be brutal
>>738774475they can still have enough tension to be fun. In fact too much tension turns people away
>>738774630>too much tension turns people awayyeah well that much is clear, I think marathon would be a worse but more popular game with PVE
>>738770332>>738770606>not badThose are veilguard numbers. For the budget and years involved, that's a disaster. Even worse, it's only being played by Destiny 2 fans which is splitting their userbase. No one gives a fuck about Marathon. It failed, and faggots like OP are coping hard.
>>738770332I don't know if its a success or not but it might be the coolest multiplayer game I've ever played. It is in all seriousness the hardest most infuriating thing I've ever seen at the beginning so as far as first impressions go its as shitty as it gets. I damn near dropped it within hours without a second thought and several times after. But something kept nagging at me because I absolutely fucking hate admitting that I can't do something without giving it a full send so I started it again. And again and again. Its actually really fucking good. The sound design in particular haunts my nightmares. What sticks with me the most about it is that despite its fantastical sci-fi setting the sound design makes you play it like its real life, listening to every footstep ,every water splash or audio cue trying to gauge where its coming from and who or what it is. Playing this thing in headphones on high volume in solo is the most intense immersive experience I've ever had in a multiplayer game because usually this type of immersion shit just isn't an feature of games in that genre. Marathon is fucking cool. I don't give a single shit whatever anyone else says. I will die on that hill. I haven't played a Bungie game since Halo and I don't give a fuck about all this game industry culture war shit. I bought it on a whim and like the fucking game.
>>738775609stockholm syndrome
>>738775889Yeah incan see why say that. I've never played an "extraction shooter" before and to be clear I don't love everything about the framework of that genre. The menus are complicated, switching weapons and implants on the fly is a chore and trying to even comprehend what a viable "build" is on this context may as well be a fucking graduate degree course. Its not perfect. Every game I've ever loved is flawed in some glaring way so I guess I'm just used to being abused. I will admit this is not an easy game to like, but it is a good game for the determined thrill seekers.
>>738770668PvE only doesn't work for Marathon. It's not like Tarkov where the AI can one shot you if you're not careful the bots in Marathon are braindead once you remove the tension of other players and let people take their time. Also there's nothing to do with the loot in PvE. There's no satisfaction in building a weapon unlike Tarkov you only loot things in Marathon so you have new ways to kill players.
>>738771314when you realize this piece of shit cost more than gta whatever the fuck number its at
>>738771237>salvage the assetsYou mean the reused destiny 2 assets?
>>738774684nah retard, you are just wired wrong, if marathon was a halo with cool graphics and not a woke bright detergent coded pvp extraction piece of shit, it would have been a huge successyou just happen to like shit everyone else dislikes, ive noticed only weirdo tranny freaks seem to like this piece of shit, and only briefly at that, i kinda wonder why
>>738772397sorry ngl im kinda bored of steam charts watching this, its too pathetic. think o moght take a break till layoffs, kinda learned all the regulars schticks by now
>>738770332HELL YEAH SEASON 2 IS GONNA BE LIT
>>738776740but I'm a weirdo tranny freak and hate it?
bait used to be believable
>>738776839nah bro, you are a chud nowwelcome aboard
>~3.7B USD acquisition>the main IP (Destiny) almost completely dead >200-400M development and marketing budget>already ~15-18K total players in Season 1>exists in the shadow of galactic fuckups like ConcordLmao Sony. They can't die fast enough.
I love gaming, but I’m not a gamer. I’ve never been very good at them, as much as I love them. I ended up growing up backseat spectating my brother’s play instead. Honestly, that was enough for me. I get to experience the game without having to worry about toggling any buttons. Then came marathon. I’ve watched my partner play lots of different games, but as soon as he got marathon, I was hooked. I started wolfing down the lore, studying strategy and following discussions in the community. I Even listened to the Marathon soundtrack while training at the gym! After a couple months of this, my partner said enough is enough, and we decided I’d get a whole ass Xbox and a headset just to be able to play the game with him. I thought he was insane talking about spending that kind of money. He finally sold me by telling me if I didn’t take to it we could always make a return. I figured with how much joy this game has brought me, it was honestly worth it to give it a shot, even if I was super casual, to still be a part of the player base and support it.It has now be 36 hours. My partner logged off a long time ago. I have not slept. I have grinded 18 levels, had my first massive come up and then lost it all. I felt the rush of finding exciting weapons, the anxiety of whether I can take someone at their word, and the reward trust brings when I end up getting a helping hand from a new friend. The contentment and getting to nerd out over filling my codex. That awesome feeling of getting comfortable on a map and being able to move around strategically. The sorrow of dying when there’s two seconds left on the exfil.“Just one more run, just one more run, just one more run.”Marathon is an amazing experience.Worth it.See you all on Tau Ceti !!
>>738776963Amazing, you are the people thst make this game worth playing
Great to hear you're all enjoying Marathon. Just a reminder to get those fingers ready for when Elder Scrolls VI releases, in only a few short years.
>>738776923truly one of the greatest financial blunders, possibly ever. Billyins licherally torched.
>>738777121Might be this year.Bethesda is normally 4 years dev time.
Shutting down Concord outright was a dumb decision and now we're seeing the consequences in Marathon. If you want to create a live service game then you have to be prepared to commit at least five years to keeping your servers up instead of shutting it down in a few months. Server costs are fucking peanuts compared to the loss of trust you incur by shutting down. No I'm not sad Concord shut down, but it was a stupid business decision.
>>738777285>he thinks it was JUST the server cost>sony also committed to a road map of content update for concord, so they had to keep the studio going too >there was going to be CGI trailers for every new season
>>738777367>"""content updates""">CGI trailersLmao those things cost even less
>>738777285>consequences in Marathondo you mean something along the lines of "one of the consequences of Concord's shutdown was that Sony learned their lesson and will maintain Marathon"?
>>738777285Concord was a unique failure that nothing has come close to they literally bought multimedia franchise productions before it was even revealed. Bungie have sabotaged numerous Sony funded projects already in an effort to funnel resources to themselves and force the publisher to rely on them. There's no world where a TLoU Online VS from the creators themselves was going to fail but bungie found a way to kill it when it was already nearly complete. Anybody who does business with this company Bungie immediately gets backstabbed and fucked over one way or another. They've been at it for 20 years already ffs. Bungie, the people who've been there since Halo, are absolute scum fucking pieces of dog shit who should be shunned from funding. Let these guys use their own massive bank accounts and make something that's sustainably profitable. More than likely they would simply fuck off and never make games again if they couldn't scam people.
>>738777687>Bungie costing woke investors $billionsWas secretly ourcompany all along.
>>738770332I read this in borats voice
>>738778179I didn't even notice OP left out a word. These ESL posts are reprogramming my brain
>>738770332I don't understand how people can keep making videos like this while literally no one cares and the player base continues to decline.I'm honestly somewhat convinced, given the gerrymandering going on for decades in normal game journalism at this point (mixtape, case in point) that they're paying these random people sums to make videos saying "BUT WAIT IT'S ACTUALLY LITERALLY SO PEAK!!!" and then I watch a bit of the vid, and it's just them gassing up the same game I've seen and played the test of, trying to claim it's more innovative or immersive than it is.One video was some dude going super in depth that the game was, erm, the most unique, bestest stealth game ever actually, but in reality it's the same stealth gameplay, maybe even worse, that games like Arc have with their PvE and enemy players or Hunt, or Tarkov and I'm like "this can't be real, these people are all taking small sums from bungie's marketing department, or they're just total fanboys, which could be true." we're talking people on pokemon/nintendo/disney levels fandom driven cope.buuuuuuuuut idk.The game itself just doesn't jump out as any of the things they claim, given what I played. It all seems artificial, it all seems like an effort to stealth shill this game so that when it DOES eventually get updates there's a pre-constructed basis for people to be like "SEEEEE!!!!! IT'S ACTUALLY THE GOAT! IT JUST TOOK TIME!!!!! WE WERE RIGHT ALL ALONG!!!!!" which would be used to start a narrative that the game always had 'soul' just needed work... when it really doesn't (from its very premise being a resurrected series from 30 years ago), and the fact it released barebones, unfinished, with no real hook and only a vague sense of extraction gameplay and systems for direction, unlike its competitors like Arc Raiders which actually do innovate and almost leave the genre behind in doing so, becoming more than just an extract game.Am I wrong to think this or you feel me?
>>738778667Because morons like you keep watching those videos.
>>738778706I skimmed the ones I did watch, but true, it's really just bait at this point and Bungie is such a hugely influential company that people are so invested in the failure they watch.Idk tho, I barely contribute, but I keep seeing the slop.
>>738778667>and the fact it released barebones, unfinishedIn what sense is Marathon "unfinished"? I can understand having issues with the gameplay, but that's quite different from saying that it's incomplete.

What's that game... Is it any good?
>>738780170I think it's pretty good.
>>738780170It's a real return to form for Bungie
>>738780338I don't think that Marathon can be reasonably called a "return to form" for Bungie. If the form to return to is Halo, then this is an even further departure.
>>738780517A real return to the form of Destiny 1
>>738780550Isn't that a singleplayer game?
>>7387795053.3k now and a new low. 5 AM central time is the ebb so this looks like the basement until tomorrow morning. All in all a successful night of doing nothing.

>>738778667Shills have to fulfill their content quota to be paid
>>738777285>Server costs are fucking peanuts compared to the loss of trust you incur by shutting down. Are you forgetting that they have to employ a studio of several hundred people to push out content to this extremely small group of people? A studio that is located in an extremely expensive part of the US?

>>738772050>I wish Bungie would just make a normal shooter againMe too anon, me too.I don't understand how you go from making some of the best single player fps games of all time to destiny and marathon.
>>738782217>still pandering to streamers HOLY FUCKING KEK THEY HAVENT LEARNED ZIEGLER IS HELLBENT ON KILLING THE STUDIO
>>738771237Small studio, please understandBut seriously they somehow don't have the manpower for this, just look at how Destiny 2 is basically on life support now.
>>738782825The people who made the old games are no longer at the studio
>>738770475Even EU5 has more players than this
>>738771237>single playerwtf are you an economic terrorist or something?
>>738782842To be fair, those are some very basic features. Deadlock had most of that on the first version I played (before Hero Labs). Shouldn't be challenging to implement, either.
>>738771237If a Classic Marathon remake gets made someday, some of the assets will definitely be reused.>>738782878Bungie absolutely does have the manpower for that. The gameplay, maps, OST, and voice acting in Marathon prove it. They just wanted to instead make a live service game where the story is told across seasons. Having a singleplayer campaign would require it to be a different game telling a different story, and at that point, why no release it on its own?
>>738782217every change since launch has been pandering to streamers and ultra sweaty players. No wonder the game is dead
You guys dont rike streamers? They are great people just look how they inspired fhe destiny 2 playerbase
