1080p has been the most popular PC gaming resolution for 15 years. When will gamers finally upgrade?
>>
When my now 15 year old monitor burns out? Why should I upgrade otherwise?
>>
unlikely any time soon with the hardware requiring a 4k high refresh rate setup outside of most goy's reach
refresh rate matters more than the jump from 1080 ->4k anyway
>muh 2k
meme resolution completely not worth it
>>
>>738773704
The new upgrade path is going from shitty 16:9 to 16:10 monitors
>>
>>738773704
Why have a 4k monitor when you can just have 3-4 1080p monitors for the same price?
Also with how expensive good gfx cards are now and that most ppl on the internet are 3rdies, should be no surprise that most ppl are still on 1080p.
Not to mention, like 34% of games played are 10+ year old games, which generally dont support resolutions bigger or more obscure than 1080p.
t.I ended up selling my Ultrawide to a friend cuz the literal only 2 games it was good for was cheating extra view range on Dota 2 and having more desktop space in Eve. Shit crashed and had constant issues with old games.

>>738773704
I'm not upgrading until we get funny monitor shapes.
I want a star.
>>
Years after they stop making the monitors and I can't find any on ebay

When accessibly priced graphics cards can push 120 non-fake frames per second at 4K (never at this rate).
>>
>>738773704
>he fell for 4k 60 fps (fake) meme
>>
>>738773704
What's the advantage of having a bigger screen at my desk? I can already see everything.
>>
pc goymers are too broke for 4k
>>
Probably not for a long time, simply because consumers and monitor manufacturers are retarded and evil respectively.

4k is the first actual upgrade to picture quality since LCDs became prevalent. The problem is that most people don't understand this, because they're retarded, or buy the "high DPI" scam that monitor companies are selling them.

The POINT of 4k is that it's 4x 1080p. I mean that literally, it's a single monitor that replaces 4 1080p monitors in a 2x2 stack, you can use it to tile 4 1080p windows at once, run side by side 8:9 1920x2160 windows, run large format 2880x2160 4:3 content, or just play things in 4k. This only works when you buy a 4k monitor in a suitable size, which is 40" minimum (equivalent to 20" 1080p). Monitor companies do NOT want to sell you 40" monitors, because they're expensive to ship. They want you to buy 27/32" dogshit, and so the majority of consumers will stick with 1080p, because running monitors that small requires scaling and turns effective resolution into 1080p or 1440p equivalent.

When NS is finally implemented so everyone doesn't get fucked over by jews printing fake money like it's Cookie Clicker.

For me it was 1680x1050

>cpu clock speeds haven't changed at all in 15 years either
We just keep adding more cores.

your head is not getting any bigger bro, 23" is good enough on an average desk

When nGreedia stops being so greedy. So never.
>>
>>738773704
When modern titles are capable of running past 60 FPS on modern hardware at 4k. Currently with Framegen it can work on some cases, but i literally just play at 1080p so i can atleast use the entirety of my monitors refresh rate...
>>
>>738773704
it's easy to run higher refresh rates which are very pleasant to use with a mouse
>>
>>738777452
>>consoles playing on 4k
>upscaled from 720p with fsr2
>>
I'll upgrade to 1440p when the top cards can run modern games on ultra at 144+hz without using fake frames so probably never.
>>
>>738773704
hopefully never, make better graphics at 1080p instead of increasing resolution, I don't want to stare at a 40 inch monitor to see the difference
>>
>>738773704
Ass steam is only used by turd worlders.
>>
>>738779104
>upscaled from 720p
lol they wish
>>
If you are playing on a desk, you don't need 4k.
>>
>>738773704
there's literally no reason too.
1440p and higher resolutions require higher monitor sizes, and most people are satisfied with 23-24 inch displays.
And say you want to get a 27 inch monitor because you have the space. Congrats, now your games run at 20-30% less fps.
1080p is the sweet spot for monitors, no matter how much the industry is trying to push higher resolutions.
>>
>>738773704
1440p is literally as high as you need to go along with improvements to AA tech and that's about it going forward
>>
I was using a 1368x768 monitor until 2019
>>
>>738773704
2k and 4k are meme made for retards.
>>
>>738777069
post irl setup or cap
>>
>>738773704
I have money to buy a few new monitors but I just haven't felt like it.
>>
>>738773704
There aren't any games worth upgrading for which is why I haven't upgrade my PC in years. I've only ever upgraded for MP games just to not suffer with a permanent disadvantage, and I haven't had a reason to do that since MP games have sucked for a good 10 years now
>>
>>738773704
my 2015 24 inches 1080p samsung is still working fine and showing no sign of failure. i'm not gonna upgrade to higher resolution with no clear visual benefits but guarantee worse performances in games.
>>
>>738773704
Never. Hardware stopped improving so this is as far as things go.
>>
>>738773704
The only time I felt 1080p wasn't enough was playing online shooters like Squad and getting bush sniped by single pixel dots, I don't play those shitty games anymore so 1080p is fine.
>>
>>738773704
There's no point in 4K, I can't even see that much detail with my eyes.
