What did we think of it?
>>
It's a fantastic game that needs more content and less jailer onis.
>>
Ghastly.
>>
>>738774070
Great combat.
Shit enemy variety and a lot of reused content. Same problem as other Nioh games.
>>
>>738774070
I'm playing Nioh 1 right now, is there something i am missing with this game? some people here kept telling me it's a ''diablo clone'' but it's just a soulslike with it's own oriignal mechanic nothing like diablo
>>
>>738778176
Only the loot is "Diablo like". The rest of the game isn't.
>>
>>738774070
Damn fine combat, but that's a given since it's Nioh, but not a massive improvement to Nioh 2. A side grade, but there's a lot of little bugbears that drag it down and have started to rot the foundations. Such as;

Enemy AI is now more passive than previous titles. You will see enemies hang back while one is attacking instead of ganging up on you immediately.

AI in general getting confused around ledges or any amount of elevation at all

Texture pop in that sometimes includes entire fucking buildings

occasional massive FPS drops in some areas for no discernible reason

Onmyo removed as a skill tree and now RNG based with yokai soul cores

Yokai soul cores no longer active abilities and instead are now consumables like Onmyo magic

Only 1 form of burst counter compared to Nioh 2s 3 forms. Technically 2 if you include the Guardian Spirit Skills, but most of those aren't good at burst counter usage

GS Skills are not as varied and useful as Yokai abilities, you are hard locked to just 2 at a time.

Samura/Ninja modes have separate gear, and thus separate builds that largely don't interact with the other. You will grind out 2 builds at a time if you regularly use both instead of sticking to just one.

Poor enemy variety when there is now more than enough enemies to pick from. Dwellers, Gaki, and Jailer Oni will still make up the bulk of the enemies you fight.

Ninja/Samurai weapon tree split saw several weapons gutted of their kit for Ninja, with not enough to compensate for it for most of them. Made worse that Team Ninja could've made a Ninja and samurai moveset for all the weapons as they clearly did it with sword/dual sword.

and much, much more.

Loved it, I'm still seething over the DLC roadmap. 6 months between drops is BULLSHIT and the game had better double in size by the end of it
>>
Very fun but i quit about 1/3 of the way in coz i wanted to wait for dlc and went back to nioh 2 which i've never beaten because in all the nioh 3 threads anons here told me it actually gets way better in NG+ and beyond
>>
>>738778563
Actually scratch that, my main complaint is that there should have been some more brought over from Ronin, like the grapple hook, horseback, and the clothing system.
>>
>>738774070
I didn't finish it cause I ended up getting bored and going back to nioh 2, some of the weapons felt worse to use. I honestly also just do not like open world at all and like the other anon said the basic enemies were easy as fuck. I might give it another go but I really don't feel like playing it right now, it feels weird to say that if I'm gonna play a nioh game I'd rather just play 2 for the millionth time

Nioh 2 > 1 > 3
>>
>>738774070
$70 unfinished glorified demo
I'll buy the finished product when it releases. The nioh 2 complete edition is one of the single best vidya purchases I've ever made, and I'm sure when the 3 equivalent comes out it will be too.
>>
>>738774070
Extremely mid. I have like 500 hours in nioh 2 and nioh 3 bored me to death so badly I didnt even finish ng+
>>
I forgot that there even is a third one.
>>
>>738779782
No surprise here.
>>
Its too unbalanced and broken. Take off all your clothes and use sword meditation and you do 20,000 hit to bosses with the skill that buffs you per missing armor piece. Like come on.

Carnage talisman martial arts damage 2h axe is also ultra retarded.

Naked unarmed onmoyo builds that cant be staggered, etc.
>>
>>738774070
I'm waiting for them to release the full moveset for kusarigama, hatchets, splitstaff and tonfas before I play it
Why is it taking so long
>>
>>738778665
It's funny because I actually liked ronin a lot. I don't typically play open world games but it was definitely serviceable. Nioh's open world is just boring and they barely did anything to accommodate for the change from structured levels to a big map full of hardly anything interesting or challenging
>>
>>738778176
The loot is the only thing similar to Diablo, but the devs add a feature (can't remember if it's in 1) where you can just auto-filter the loot in a few different ways depending on your preference, like telling it "don't even show me loot below X rarity" or "auto-scrap loot below X rarity when I visit the blacksmith"

Absolute shit. It's baffling how bad it was, but I can't be arsed getting into why. There's a good video summary of the various problems in this game if you want to see for yourself:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8yHu4Yct0Y

The first game is the best one in my opinion, and while the sequel did some good improvements, it had bad changes and additions too.

I would still pick 2 over 3 after having played both even without DLC.

>>
>>738780974
My reasoning is basically the same as>>738780697 so 3's combat has felt by far the best for me. Also despite me being a massive open world hater I think 3's open world design is actually an improvement over the dog shit repetitive ass level system 1 and 2 had. I think the pacing was really well handled in 3 and I never once felt bored exploring the world where as I often felt 1 and 2 got tedious when going through some of the main and side missions.
>>
>DLC not out
Incomplete game, not bothering yet. They should have delayed the PC release like they did with 2.
>>
>>738781130
They should have kept it exclusive to PS5 permanently because all PC fags do is complain and they dont even buy the games they complain about.
>>
>>738781191
I have 600 hours in Nioh 2, Snoy. I will buy 3 when the game is done.
>>
>>738780821
Quite a few things. Hated the Dark Realm constantly forcing the game into that ugly black and white screen colour. The Burst Counters also felt really OP and made the game much easier (especially since it made enemies glow red when they did powerful attacks). Hated the Yokai forms (even though it had potential) since they were very spammy and basic, taking away your general moveset (the forms didn't really have much customisation either and everyone looked the same). The sound effects were much worse compared to the original game and it's like they changed them for no real good reason. I could keep going, but you get the idea, there's just a lot of things I don't like about Nioh 2.
>>
>>738781079
My counter argument is that Nioh 3's combat is noticeably slower to Nioh 2 as well as having far less customization options for the player. Little things that had big impacts I couldn't ignore the more I played through both NG and NG+ for 3. Things like replacing yokai abilities with guardian spirit skills but hard locking them to 2 per spirit, and of those you will always have a close range one, and a long ranged one no matter what spirit it is means that there's less variety in the abilities and their utility. Same for only having 1 form of burst counter that didn't have anywhere near the same level of additional utility that the feral, brute, and phantom forms did. No more using brute as a cheap interrupt, animation cancel, and combo extender, no more reaction dodge or blocks with feral or phantom, same for not having unique ult modes since ultimately the ninja/samurai modes do effectively the same things. The inclusion of deflect being a kind of universal "perfect block" for samurai also meant that I wasn't trying to find ways to zone out bosses or really worry about positioning at all as I got better at just deflecting attacks to the point where I would just wait for the attack to come at all. It drastically changed the previously very aggressive and active combat I liked with Nioh and leaned more heavily into parry focused defense like Sekiro...and I don't like Sekiros combat because of that. Generally, the more aggressive a game lets me be the more I like it, doubly so when that aggression can come from turning an enemies attack into a new avenue for my own counter attack. If I'm just deflecting to build up martial arts meter faster to then spam heavies and active skills, then I'm essentially letting the mobs/bosses dictate the flow of the fight and I don't like that at all.
>>
>>738774070
I played Nioh 1 and I'm on 2 last DLC. Now, is it really worth playing NG+? Granted I will use a new weapon so it will freshen up, but does it change that much? I'm more inclined to go to Nioh 2 NG honestly as I'm playing it currently.
As for 3, I will wait price drop in a fee years
>>
>>738781448
I'd say so. All the mechanics unlock across difficulties. Blitz through Strong, Demon, and Wise, don't bother with side content or DLCs, then do a proper run of Nioh, go into the post-game if desired from there.
>>
>>738781448
Yes, unlike a lot of other games and their new game plus modes, Nioh generally ADDS more to them besides just stat boosts for enemies and better loot and difficulty. Some attacks get burst counter chances removed while others get new moves that can be countered, ranged enemies shoot faster (this one is shitty though), cursed enemies appear, enemies gain elemental effects to their weapons etc. etc. You will be challenged, but you will also get better shit.
>>
>>738781191
>They should have kept it exclusive to PS5 because snoys will eat any type of smelly shit and not complain

About what I expected from modern Koei and team ninja, given Wo Long (parry slop), Rise of Da Ronin (parry slop) and strangers of its fanbase literally did not play the game (insanely poorly designed, whos idea was it to make every enemy incapable of exiting hitstun and manifest weaknesses to elements if hit enough, which is < 1 aeroga cast, while all mp using moves break super-armor, so every enemy in the game is trivialized by spamming aeroga?)
- Its a massive step down from 2 in basically every single way.
- The open world does not work. You see demons. You fight them IF you feel like it. If not, just run past. The fuck are they going to do, stop you? In this big of a map? Its not like 1 and 2 where they may have allies blocking the way, waiting to ambush, etc.
The towns also don't work. You can walk in, kill 1 or 2 enemies and run out. They will drop aggro because the aggro range is pathetic and you easily outrun every enemy. You can then fully heal casually, walk back in and get another free stealth attack.
- The ninja mode is terrible. Yes daddy I wanted my moveset cut in 1/3rd. Thank you daddy I love the game being less fun to play.
Its also just absurdly overpowered. It does so much damage with so little effort.
- Because of ninja mode existing and ninjutsu therefore being spammable, all ninjutsu is weaker and feels like ass. They aren't intergrated into your moves like that one tough boss in 2 or anything either, you just arbtiarily get free ninjutsu on hit now for no reason.
- Lost 1/3rd of the burst options, including the most popular one with nothing in its place
- New not-core system is massively inferior and they tout using spirit summons as a big new feature... those were an item and a bonus of being in demon in 2.
- The not-demon mode itself is 1 set form now, so also cut in 1/3rd with nothing to make up for it.
- And there are only 2 backstab animations now. Again. Less options, less animations, no upside.

I enjoyed it but the amount of reused content is insane. Like 90% of the armor sets are straight up reused
>>738781396
It's not slower if you play as Ninja, if you get good at perfect dodges you can pretty much never stop attacking
>>
>>738781643
>ranged enemies shoot faster
I swear handcannnon mooks shoot faster than bows and rifles for some godforsaken reason.
>>
>>738781396
This is just a personal preference thing cause basically everything you said here that you think is worse in 3 is why I think it's better. If anything my biggest issue with Nioh 1 and 2's combat has always been having too much in the way of options cause it leaves the combat system being messy and all over the place, the one part I'd agree with is the different burst counters since they are mechanically justified in being different and it's a shame there's no equivalent in 3. Nioh was always in need of trimming the fat to me and 3 managed that well while also adding it's own unique features.

>>738781719
Impressively, they even dropped the ball with the story in a series with no standards for story.
Why are we still fucking mute? 2's guy was some half-demon with amnesia who doesn't even notice he kills his own identical twin, so sure, have them be mute.
In this we're supposed to be the leader of an entire nation. What kind of diplomat literally cannot speak? Why are we being taught basic swordplay and having a ninja hand us our ninja guy in the field? Where are our guards? If we can magically turn into a ninja for no apparent reason, wouldn't we ALWAYS have that gear anyways? Its so stupid. The time jumping shit and the talking cat do nothing to help with this. We just do shit mostly for no reason. Its similar to crimson desert in that way. Our guy just knows how to deal with demon crystlals because... he just does, okay? No explanation.

On top of all of this, the character creator looks worse. Why did they change it? My guy looks so ugly compared to 2 with identical settings on a better PC.
Apparently its even worse if you make a girl but I can't confirm that
>>
Also the fact we rely on le magic sword for everything was a mistake, too. In the first game we're a guy trying to retrieve his immortal waifu so him relying on spirits for power is fine, but then in the second we're playing a super half-yokai. You don't go DOWN in power after that to another loser who relies on an outside source for half his moves. You can't even backstab in 3 without that weapon
>>
>>738778452
>AI in general getting confused around ledges or any amount of elevation at all
This was one of the most farcical parts of the combat in RotR. As soon as I saw Nioh 3 would have jumping I knew it would have the same flaw.
>>
>>738781997
I knew Rise was fucked when I fought the bandit boss early on who has this one move where he raises his sword, does a little wiggle (for what purpose lol?) and runs at you and realized if I just maintained distance from him he would do that every single time.
Other bosses had similar issues where if you just stood the right distance away or kept blocking or whiffed infront of them they'd consistently try to burst you making them trivial because its parry slop so you just nope them
>>
>>738781819
I actually liked that mechanical complexity because it rewarded me for trying new combinations of moves, yokai abilities, skills and just about anything and everything to see what it could do. Nioh 3 cutting back on that complexity for the sake of appealing to a wider group felt like a step back in a lot of ways by comparison. Doubly so when they took away Odachi's special ability to both bully human enemies with mid stance attacks AND being the only weapon to have a parry that worked on humans and yokai. They massacred that poor weapon meanwhile sword only got better. Because of course the Nips would make the katana the best weapon again.
>>
I killed all the bosses in 3 in ninja mode because it gives you iframes that actually work.
I don't see any reason the play samurai mode when I can just iframe through everything as a ninja.

Like why would I block stuff and potentially get bodied anyways, when I can just dodge?
>>
>>738781853
>Apparently its even worse if you make a girl but I can't confirm that
they did something with the skin textures. I lost all enthusiasm for the demo when every female char I tried to make turned out like a diseased tangerine.
>>
It was a great game in terms of gameplay but unfortunately the story is nowhere nearly as good as it was in 2, and i'm a staunch believer 2 was one of the best sengoku action games when it came to story and overall vibe and message, especially thanks to the finale.
With penance stone the difficulty issues are pretty much solved.
>>
>>738782330
>Like why would I block stuff and potentially get bodied anyways, when I can just dodge?
because parry is iframes + ki damage to enemy
>>
>>738781526
>>738781643
>All the mechanics unlock across difficulties
Is it actual mechanics or just different enemy placement and buffs? Cursed enemies are barely a mechanic
>>
>>738774070
Great game, but I don't like the ninja/samurai stances.
They went and butchered my favourite weapon, the splitstaff into having a third of old moves available. Ninja should really have an equivalent of low/mid/high stance.
