How do I kill my backlog and stop buying new games?
>>
>>738774461
Flick yourself in the nuts for each dollar spent on new games.

normal breeding sex with normal girl.
>>
>>738774461
Why do Zoomers do this? What is the obsession with having a backlog?
Zoomers are so dumb man.
>>
>>738774461
most game are only 6 hrs long, you can beat 2 on weekends unless they're jrpgs and need a guide.
>>
make a calendar reminder to refund the latest slop you bought <2 weeks from when you bought it.
I might've missed the boat on refunding '83, kinda pissed about that.
>>
>>738774461
Just stop worrying about it, gaming is not a job. If you want the backlog to stop growing just stop buying shit and look through the ones you have first.
>>
How do I stop having sex with my own mouth and get a gf?
>>
>>738774461
Just kill yourself, you fucking loser faggot.
>>
>>738774461
just play the shorter ones and dont buy long ass games, i am jobless right now and even if i can buy new shit i dont and play the ones that i own.
>>
>>738774461
realize you are being retarded and that the games you are buying don't matter to you enough to play them.
>>
>>738775214
can someone translate this to Mandarin? Google translate ban me for asking too many time to translate penis
>>
>>738774461
I put all of mine on a wheel, spin it, play for at least 30 minutes and see how I feel. I also like to write down my thoughts, just gotta kill that indecision to just actually play something
Specifically playing it, not playing through it. No point in forcing yourself to scarf down 12 hours of a game you don't like. 30 minutes, in and out, see how you feel. Move on from there
>>
>>738774461
It is even longer if you try to 100% achievement every game.
>>
>>738774461
uninstall steam
>>
>>738774461
Imagine being upset that you have options. If you can't play them now, you'll get to them later, or not. You'd have a bigger problem if you had no games like some anons who can only seethe at people having fun. As long as you don't chronically hoard them by the dozens each sale, you'll probably fine.
>>
>>738774936
It's not just zoomers, this shit has been going on since time immemorial I have a whole room filled to the ceiling with books, and most of those were from my late Uncle. When buying something as valuable as a book or a game, it's an investment for when one has the right mindset and "vibes" to properly take it in. Having tried to read the Silmarillion while being beaten with a stick every other day I can guarantee that's a fact.

That said, based on my experience, part of the problem here is that it's just really fucking good to get a game on a good sale, shooting dopamine through the hunter part of the brain, and it serves as a little boost when one is feeling down. With how naturally and constantly depressed zoomers are, I guess it's a coping mechanism and insurance for a future that might not come.

It's about buying something you see on the shelf that looks interesting, but you only heard about.
Or something that you wanted goes on sale so cheap that you might as well pick up a few other things while you're at it.

Your alpha ass is referring to streaming everything and never having what you paid for staring you in the face. Without owning anything, you don't feel invested enough to finish anything. Since you don't finish anything, naturally you don't care to experience anything.

And just like that you can release a game where the horse's balls change and people will cum and shit their pants because they have never and will never see anything like it again.
>>
>>738774461
>Play game until I'm done with it
>move on to new game
It's that simple.
>>
>>738774461
Spend your paycheck on coke the moment you get it so you don't have money to buy new vidya
>>

Backlogs are extremely millenial-coded because we grew up with the pure white-skinned desktop computer internet with busy forums. You are a golem who is either too stupid to see/remember this, unlucky enough to not be assigned a soul at birth, or both.

I was having backlog problems. Then I bought the watcher dlc for rain world and it's pissing me off so fucking much that I'm not locked in.
Can't find the echo nigger a third time after wandering aimlessly in ten worlds. Can't do some jumps because you need levitation and cannot use spear stacks to pass. Level design is clearly the work of a community each trying to make the hardest most obnoxious shit conceivable using the rain world physic and movements. You got murdermoths that may as well kill you the moment you barely touch them if they have babies in the map you're in, toads sapping your food meter, rot niggas and rot covered maps, excavators fused with barnacles...
I got to coastal cave today, I went into the dlc from shaded citadel ( which leads to flooded pathway if you find the last echo in this location ) so I didn't get that map as my insertion point. Well that shit is supposed to be the player's introduction to the dlc. First thing I see is a large flooded cave system and upon reaching the end of it I get ambushed by two lizards while still underwater.
And if you turn invisible you can't see where the fuck the slugcat is and you miss pipes underwater leading to your death by drowning. Difficulty is cranked up to 9000 compared to survivor campaign.

what the fuck did I buy

This is the only way it is done.
Fellow actual game finishers/enjoyers I compel you to play 3D Ultra Minigolf Deluxe (Zomb's Lair download version so it will work on modern systems) 30 mins tops to finish, a game with incredible soul.
>>
>>738777465
This is my best buddy's favourite game of all time and I am thusly honour-bound to finish it one day. I love games *like* this, but Rain World seems to have gazed into the abyss for a little too long.

It means too many things. Decide what your goal specifically is and everything else gets easy.

>to stop playing your current games and play other ones
Back up game data to an external drive (so you can pretend "oh, it's just temporary") then delete the game and save off your machine. Go play the other things, repeat as needed.

>to play more things, more generally
Set a deadline for how long you have with each game before you'll stop playing, start game, play and finish playing the game on deadline. You won't finish everything, we're committing to that being okay

>to buy fewer games
do other things + use self control.

>to finish more games in general
Be ruthless about story progress, quests, and avoiding side bullshit. Play for an ending, and in a pinch or if stuck, just consult guides and speedrun resources if you ever get stuck till unstuck.

You will probably dislike doing most of these more than whatever you currently do, which is why you don't do it. Learn to accept your weaknesses and disinterest in doing things you don't actually care about doing.

Sometimes it's like this, and sometimes you get a streak of absolute bangers. Parasite Eve 2 into Chrono Trigger into Racing Lagoon is a feeling I will be chasing probably forever. On the bright side, finding a run of bad games makes your backlog smaller as fast as possible!

This is the best way to go about it, main thing is breaking the indecision like you said and say "ok i'm going to spend x ammount of time and then decide" It's too easy to look at time to beat and make it feel like a mountain.

Some other tips are:
>Know what you like
don't get pressured into buying BG3 if you despise CRPG's
>Don't buy tons in a sale
buy a game when you want to play it and play it instantly
>Try to approach media with an open mind
Try to engage with the game on it's terms and not think "oh but x game did it y way" if you really don't like it you will know
>Be ruthless
If the game does not spark joy then get rid of it
>Don't force yourself to play too much
I played like 1 hour of cyberpunk a day until the story really gripped me and then I ended up playing it load per day until I finished it. You don't have to dive right in and finish games in one sitting.

Many people will say we are making too much out of this but for some people their brains are just cooked and they need strategies to help them here.

Base game has a sense of progression, and you can identify the difficulty curve and find ways to mitigate how severe the hardest ordeals are by being cautious and/or circumvent threats. It is also easier to know where you're supposed to go.
Meanwhile the watcher has your cat trapped in the movie Cube. If rooms in Cube were massive labyrinths, with the topology and death pits screwing you over. And there's 40 FUCKING GIANT MAPS IT'S BIGGER THAN EVERYTHING ELSE COMBINED.
I UNLOCKED CHIEFTAIN AND NOW SCAVS ARE BLOCKING PIPES AND NARROW PASSAGES ALL THE TIME. THEY WON'T LEAVE ME ALONE THERE'S A RED LIZARD COMING GET OFF THE TUNNEL OR ILL HAVE YOU BENT

I'm not on steam, I'm on switch 1 for maximum quality time when the game is shitting the bed, sabotaging my inputs and running at 15 fps after spawning too many creatures.
It also crashed ~10 times already. Mostly when taking a dimensional warp and I surmise it happens because the game doesn't clean off entities from the previous map and memory gets saturated. So my routine is to zero in on the closest bunker to hibernate whenever I warp.
Also if you die before that you're sent back to the previous map. Broken ass paid mod.

If you play, do vanilla, downpour and really think before buying the watcher.
Picrel is me being sucked into the teleporting dimensional fracture thing while a vulture or a moth is around and also sucked in along with me, knowing that I'll have to deal with it seconds later while shaders are going mad all over the screen.
>>
>>738778689
lmao, cheers for the advice bud, I will most likely call it after Downpour in that case
>>
>>738774461
instead of buying them just put them on wishlist and ignore all the sales until you actually want to install and play one, then just pirate it and buy later if feel like it
>>
>>738774461
Pick a game
Play it until you finish
You can't stick to one? Pick two or three in total and circle between until you finish them, rinse and repeat
>>
i have a big ol backlog and i just dropped like $200 on forza paypig edition
>>
>>738780103
>200 buxx
Wtf did you buy a real life car too?
>>
>>738774461
Just have fun playing what you like. If I want to replay a nice vidya and put another fifty hours into while ignoring other games, I do it without regret.
Also, you could try switching to anther fun hobby for a moment. Doesn't make your backlog smaller but it could help you reset and get back into gaming with new vigor.
If you only treat your backlog as a chore, it'll make you feel like shit all the time.
>>
>>738776783
Comparing it to hunter is actually a goddamn good point. Sometimes it's just the thrill of catching your prey, not consuming the prey itself.
>>
how do I start enjoying games?
nothing I've played recently has hooked me enough to have me continue after an hour or less
>>
>>738774461
leave this dogshit gay ass website and never look back, congratulations now you have enough free time to finish your backlog
>>
>>738774461
Start playing them
>>
>>738774461
It begins with the realization that video games suck and buying them is gay
Before you know it, you aren't playing them anymore and instead you spend all your time here shitposting about all the games you don't play

the whole backlog thing comes from burning out on a genre / aesthetic. sometimes i want plain boring army man shoots army man. sometimes i want cartoony hack and slash RPG. sometimes i want srs gritty hack and slash. sometimes i want to race a car. sometimes i want a racing sim. or a business management sim. you gotta get in the mood or figure out what you’re in the mood for, not buy NEWEST THING and just play what you already got. get over the “but it’s the Xth game in the series” just play it unless it literally requires you to play the previous entry. get over “but it’s old and there’s a newer edition out” just fuckin play it. whatever hurdle you have, watch a movie remotely in the same vein or whatever and get in the mood for it. sneed. then again, nothing wrong with replaying ole reliable for the millionth time but that’s not why you made this thread.

stfu you bald retard, i remember people whining about backlogs over 15 years ago.
