Why was Witcher 3's gameplay so badly designed?
>>
Your mom badly designed you.

It's been years but the main issue I remember having is Geralt automatically facing opponents in combat. Minor issue by itself, but let's say you're asked to climb around and do a little platforming in an area that is populated by flying enemies that constantly put Geralt in the combat stance if they get too near, and you can't platform in the combat stance.
Why not make it so Geralt only enters combat stance once he hits an enemy, and holding the run button let's Geralt disengage from combat? It's the small things.

sometimes I feel like the only person in the world who thought Witcher 3's combat was fine

Was it spectacular? no, but it wasn't nearly as bad as most people make it out to be, they act like it's the worst combat to ever exist, and all I can think is they never played any 5th or 6th generation console games growing up, because there was so much janky or stuff combat in those gens and you just accepted it
they can't imagine how much of a step up combat got in the 7th gen, and I'm still not saying it was the best, but it finally had a few decent templates down to copy, and a lot of those games STILL played worse than the wiutcher 3 eventually did
>>
It was a massive improvement over 1 and 2, which were borderline unplayable
>>
>>738777763
Which sucks balls because world and character as good as they get
But gameplay is never more than serviceable

I think the key to making it fun is using everything the game offers. Signs, bombs, potions.
I see loads of people just mash light attack and then complain it's boring. Mix it up.

>>738780596
I only like the gameplay of witcher 1, 2 and 3 felt too much like console ports
>>
>>738780689
You're not wrong, but the problem is the game never expects you to utilize your whole toolkit. You can just spec into light/heavy attacks and spam them until the end of days, even on the highest difficulty.
>>
>quen and spam fast attack
simple as
for me the real gameplay was gwent
>>
>>738781024
That's an issue in many if not most games. I think they needed to make the secondary tools more powerful (which they kind of did with the nextgen update), to entice people to use them more. I personally don't like it when games force me to use certain abilities in certain situations. If someone wants to beat the whole game just mashing one attack they should be able to, it should just be a lot harder and more time-consuming than using all the available tools.

Yen wears pants you can't upskirt her.
>>
>two button combat
>one of the buttons is completely useless
>>
>>738781323
name a game you like, and I'll tell you why it's shit because I only ever used the basic attack button, and nothing else the game offered me

>play a mission that's above your level
>your hits don't deal any damage and you get oneshot by any attack
>carefully draw aggro while an npc deals damage to the enemies
>finally beat the mission
>loot is scaled, get an absolute pittance
it's pretty bad
>>
>>738780689
nah
key to making it fun is never using quen
and rolling only a little bit (you have a second dodge anyway)
using the rest of your toolkit follows organically from that

>incest rpgmaker fag has an opinion

>>738781395
Depends on what you think makes an rpg good

Writing, immersion and a good setting

yes
and that opinion? correct
>>
>>738781395
Is it an rpg?
>>
>>738781671
And good roleplaying

>the problem is the game never expects you to utilize your whole toolkit
I think very few games do. And hell, games that do expect you to use everything like Doom Eternal get screeched about even harder on this board.

Yeah I didn't really have a point.
>>
>>738780596
playable game doesn't mean it's good. Somehow drakengard 1 feels better to play. And the rpg systems and world being level gated are unimmersive garbage mechanics. It is no surprise a game that barely functions as a game is so popular, but it sure is frustrating
>>
Don't bother trying to convince people Witcher 3 is a shit game.
Majority of people's IQ is too low to understand this fact.
>>
>>738780596
1 is actually pretty damn fun once you get used to it. 2 was always console jank.
>>
>>738781671
Are the asoiaf books good rpg games?
>>
>>738781731
I'm glad I'm not a game designer since I have no idea how to tackle this problem. I'm all for giving players the freedom of choice (with builds), but then the players create this problem for themselves like this.
>>
>>738781860
2 has legendary sex scenes, so it has that going for it. And some memorable quotes.
>lesbomancy
>>
I remember playing some combat overhaul mod that improved it a bunch. weakened quickstrikan, punished dodgerollan, expected to properly use parry and the side-step. also nerfed Igni so it wouldn't instantly melt shit because of how op the Ignited raw damage type was
>>
>>738777763
Why would they feel the need to design it well when the player has a literal press button for god mode sign
