I love Conan the Barbarian stories, but I really dislike survival-style games like Rust. I tried Dune: Awakening, and the Dune setting plus the different builds kept me interested for well over 100 hours before the game started to feel like a chore — log in, collect batteries for the shield generator, grind Solari to pay taxes, repeat. After the update that allowed you to bank your base, I quit almost immediately.Do you think I would enjoy this game? What I’m looking for is:>Good Conan-style atmosphere, some connection to the larger Robert E. Howard lore, similar way they went all out for dune stuff in Dune Awakening questlines.>Genuinely different playstyles. For example, a two-handed warrior should feel very different from an agile, dodge-focused swordsman. or talent trees like Bene gesserit, swordmaster like it was in Dune Awakening.
When I first played it some years ago, I had a great time playing it more like a exploration game. It has lots of cool places and the combat can be satisfying at points too. I was riding a horse decapitating cultists with some cool sword. But I had seen everything that was there to be seen, the game became quite lackluster for me. I gave myself infinite resources to build some fancy castles with some of the DLC. That was fun for a while. So I never truly played it as a survival game and I got 163h out of it.
it's fun, the connection to RE Howards lore is there and it's pretty good. different styles are viable, personally i thought the axe was strong but there are all sorts of weapons, there's even a sorcerer although it's a bit buried and thematic.the main criticism is 999 crafting tables and moving stuff between boxes. >will i enjoy for more than 100 hourswho can play the same game for that many hours? that's crazy
>>738782067It's hard carried by Hyborian Age aesthetics, but it's still an open world survival craft. I need to really cope and pretend and mod to enjoy it as discount Kenshi, but it still reeks of mmo with dumb, shortsighted enemy mobs, constant respawns of enemies and your player character and essentially nothing really mattering, since enemy camp you kill will simply be populated again
>>738782067I tried to enjoy it because I like Conan buy got sick of having to run the same route 50 times to farm fucking ironstone or whatever. Fuck open world survival crafting slop.
nigger really used chat gpt to write his 4chan post
>>738782552sorry, I'm ESL and people laugh that i'm ESL so i use chatGBT to fix up grammar and style.
>>738782221>>738782347>>738782390>>738782534Can i play it solo on my own realm or do i need to log into larger server? one thing that annoyed me to no end in Dune awakening was that this desert wasteland was supposed to be unhabitable but there's like huge castles every few meters and some assholes block off routes on purpose so you have to go around or cross some enemy base to get accross.
>>738782749You can play solo.
>>738782067It's been a while since I played it, and only played single player, but I'd recommend it.>Good Conan-style atmosphere, some connection to the larger Robert E. Howard lore, similar way they went all out for dune stuff in Dune Awakening questlines.Didn't play Dune, but I felt it was good for capturing the spirit of Conan. It does take place in a mysterious alternative realm of sorts. It is left intentionally vague, but it's maybe a dream, maybe an afterlife, maybe sorcery is at work. It's basically just an excuse to have radically different biomes on the map, like they couldn't have had a desert, a snowy area, and a jungle in one game world otherwise. There are also demons walking around in different parts of the world, which are much rarer in the actual Conan world, but overall it's good for that Conan feel.>genuinely different playstylesIt does have a fair amount of different weapon types, though the combat is rather basic. It has different builds you can do, attribute points you spend on level up and the like. I can't really compare it to Dune, since I didn't play that one.I assume the game is cheap now, and it's probably worth it just for a single playthrough. It has a shitload of dlc, but all but one is cosmetics you don't need. If you want one of the cosmetic packs then it's better to just look for a mod equivalent, since it's all cultural outfits and buildings that modders have covered. There is one DLC that is an alternate map, but it isn't as popular as the default map, and it is more set up for competitive pvp multiplayer. The default map is set up much more like an adventure exploration game, and is much more popular. The point is that you should only buy the base game, no dlc.
>>738782749Solo is great because you csn mess with all the settings to make gathering resources much less tediousYou probably also would want to reduce enemy health a little bit too because the standard settings are balanced for multiplayer. You will then hit a point where you think the game is too easy but that's because you're still in the noob oasis, then you head north and get raped by bears
>>738782067>>738782749Play on solo server.Set gathering requirements to minimum.Have fun exploring with thralls.Magic is pointless.Go to the desert on the left when you can.Spooky orange desert when you're ready.
Made my first actual base, found a crocodile boss i'm not going to bother with yet and i'm wondering if I should go to the isle. Is there a point as a new player or should I "clear" the original map first? Is there a point or should I just start a new character there after?
>>738783116It's meant to be a new starting location after clearing the main map.
>>738783116Siptah is basically just the normal exiled lands map compressed a bit with some ldritch tower shit going on in the middleIt can be ignored but i honestly prefer it to the standard map because you can get around a bit quicker, there's way more iron near the spawn points and you don't have to go the snow biome for black ice which is needed for hardened steel (lategame tech tier)
>>738783162Ah neat, so I wont be severely overpowered then? It gave me the option to start a fresh character there too
>>738782067I'm in a similar spotAbsolutely love Conan universe and vibes, but never gave a single shit about survival-crafters. Never played minecraft, rust or whatever. Never created a single settlement in Fallout 4 or 76, never engaged with player housing in MMOs...I couldn't do it. I tried FOUR TIMES now and the aesthetics and tits alone carried me for 15 hours, but my brain is simply not wired for the main gameplay loop it offers
>>738782648people laugh at your ESLness because they're retarded being unable to speak more than english is patheticbe proud of yourself, practice english
>>738783412i know five languages and i regret it.you really do not need more than english. you do not want to spend your study time on comparatively useless things. it is a mistake.
>>738782067Ngl I came back to this game after not playing it for years and it feels extremely dated. The melee combat which you will be doing a lot of, is very floaty and has you doing this goofy looking spinning combos in place.
>>738782067>Do you think I would enjoy this game? Not really, from the sounds of it.I've seen Dune gameplay and it seems to have more traditional RPG quests than Conan. Conan story/quest lines is more environmental storytelling. The atmosphere of adventuring in a wilderness with ancient ruins is definitely there, but 80% of your gameplay time is going to be "survival crafting loop" shit, like gathering resources for a new crafting bench type, gathering resources for a new armour type, gathering resources for a larger base to house your new crafting bench. Etc.It's thoroughly a crafting game. If you play solo or an easy server you can turn the resource gathering rates way up to make it easier, but then I guess it would be like picking all the vegetables out of a caesar salad because you only like croutons.
>>738782067I'm also still thinking if I should spend the money on it or not
>>738782067great atmosphere, dogshit gameplay
>>738784778that's not the pointbeing able to speak several languages is a pro, not a con, but people make it look like it's something to be laughed at, when most americans can't even tell french from russian or spanish
>>738782067The game used to go on sale regularly for like $3-5, probably not anymore since the big enhanced update so you kinda missed out.Still, I got like 300 hours out of $3 I haven't gotten that much content per dollar in a long time and thats without any of the DLC.
>>738787341it is only a pro if you do not give something up for it.which, naturally, is not the case. for an adult, the benefits of learning french/spanish/russian are basically nothing compared to what else you could do with that time. learning a foreign language is like piano: it only makes sense to do so for young children, for brain development.it's different from ESLs, learning english basically unlocks most of written and spoken knowledge, if you don't speak english you're basically not even human
Are the mods getting updated for the new version?
