What I hate the most about the NuFF7 demake is how they butchered the world. It's literally the FF15 world meets the FF13 world. It has none of the original atmosphere of the dying dilapidated world you feel sorry for. Instead everything is "cool" and slick now and you're going on a super fun high-tech adventure on your segway. Absolutely disgusting.

Correct.
It's no longer the 1980s' "dystopian near-future dieselpunk" vibe and setting, and many things are glossed over. Even whitewashed.
The fucking Wall Garden being a goddamn mid-20th century European downtown, with Cabaret and shit, is just insulting.

There's a heavy disconnect with FF7, how it's presented, and the nostalgia golem people have built up for it that they based their perceptions of FF7 on.

I don't think there's any greater example of this disconnect than the Remake games, which show what the devs of the original FF7, think of FF7.

The problem is that in the original context it makes almost no sense. In the remake they state that at first, the gold saucer was a musem, which then evolved into the gold saucer. A museum set close to Corel makes more sense, which explains the location.
>>
>>738806540
Irrefutable.
>>
>>738812513
>The problem is that in the original context it makes almost no sense.
How does it not make sense? Shinra wanted to build a theme park next to a new reactor so they burned down Corel to make room. It's the new context that makes no sense. Now they burned Corel down for no reason at all except to be evil.
>>
>>738812512
The combat is objectively better in the remakes, oldfag.
>>
>>738812663
>Shinra wanted to build a theme park next to a new reactor so they burned down Corel to make room
What the fuck are you talking about, the corel reactor is far away from the gold saucer, they didnt need the room to build it. Plus, the gold saucer doesnt belong to shinra.
In the remake they actually explained why is the gold saucer the way it is. The entrance is no longer next to the backwater that is north corel, thats the employees entrance, the people get there by chopper from costa del sol. It was built up from a museum, which explains the keystone and why to begin with, it is built there.

>Now they burned Corel down for no reason at all except to be evil.
The corel reactor exploded and they blamed it on the people of corel, did you even play the original game or did you forget?
>>
We don't really have shitposters thinking they know better than Nomura do they? Most industry vets can't even measure up to his character designs visual or writing wise. What makes an anon think they can?
>>
>>738812968
>What the fuck are you talking about, the corel reactor is far away from the gold saucer
No it's not. It's right down the train tracks. You literally walk a handful of screens from the reactor to get to Old Corel which has the cable car up to the Gold Saucer.
>they didnt need the room to build it.
They did, which is why they burned down Corel. That's the whole reason they did it.
>Plus, the gold saucer doesnt belong to shinra.
It does.
>In the remake they actually explained why is the gold saucer the way it is.
They didn't explain anything, they completely rewrote it to avoid having fun and games on top of what used to be Barret's home.
>It was built up from a museum, which explains the keystone
The keystone was already explained by Dio being a collector. They didn't need to rewrite the entire origin of the Gold Saucer.
>The corel reactor exploded and they blamed it on the people of corel, did you even play the original game or did you forget?
I've played the original game many times, and apparently you haven't because you're confusing Remake canon with the original. The reactor didn't explode in the original. Barret and Dyne were coming back from inspecting it and found Corel in flames. Because Shinra wanted to clear the area for the Saucer. Keep your mouth shut if you only know the remake.
>>
>>738806540
You're aware the dying parts of the world is in certain pockets and the cities are thriving because they're sucking mako out of the planet?
>>
>>738813253
Barret (narrating)
That's how the Corel Reactor was built..... and completed.
We all thought it would bring us an easier life.

The scene changes to show Corel in flames.

Barret (narrating)
It happened when Dyne and I were out of town for a few days.
Corel was burned down by the Shinra troops.
All the townspeople... All my relatives...... Everyone... everything......

Cloud
Shinra troops? What for!?

Barret
There was an explosion at a reactor.
Shinra blamed the accident on the people. Said it was done by a rebel faction.

Tifa
That's so terrible!

Barret
Well, I guess that's true. But more than Shinra, I couldn't forgive myself.
Never should've gone along with the building of the reactor...

Remake hate is just slippery slope fallacy, you couldnt even formulate an actual review of the game so you went straight to "yeah you're not a true fan of the game if you haven't played the original". As if somehow people have to choose between either.

I'm done even appealing to reason with you people, you're just bitter cunts.
>>
Remake and Rebirth are too open ended. Not enough cluter
>>
>>738813774
>I'm done even appealing to reason with you people
Don't kid yourself, you were strawmanning remake critics from day one.
Don't forget to ask everyone who calls it kino to formulate actual reviews, anon. Or is it only critics who need to do that? Praise it and you don't have to explain. Criticize it and you have to explain - but also no explanation is acceptable.
>>
>>738813361
>>738813253
Since you are probably stumped that you forgot this, the story of the gold saucer in the original isnt really much there other than Dio owns it. The gold saucer was owned by Shinra, it wasnt built by Shinra either and Corel didnt get destroyed for it.
>>
>>738806540

The problem seems to be that it looks more like our futurism
than the futurism of the 90s that they used in the original.

And, as you say, that being the case, it looks like another world.
It doesn't look like FF7 world.

It does feel more like FF13 and 15 than 7.

On top of that, not just the environments, but all (or most) the atmosphere and feeling,
it looks too glossy and neat and bright and detailed, that there's nothing to imagine.

In the remake, the people living in the slums, even the main characters,
some wear rich-looking designed clothes (like the kids at the beginning of Kingdom Hears 2.)

>It has none of the original atmosphere of the dying dilapidated world you feel sorry for.
People have already distorted this sentence. But I guess you meant the music and everything.

In the remake trilogy, they are ruining the music.

In the remake there's blood around on the floor sometimes.
The Midgar Zolom in Rebirth is modern anime Kaiju slop. No blood.

And if they were going to put Sephiroth over and over, why didn't they just make him a main playable character?
As when you play Shadow in Sonic Adventure 2.

From what I recall, the explanation was that there were more settlements and buildings and shit in the area around Kalm, but they got ravaged in the war. Some of the buildings were also used as military bases. You can also see some old abandoned remnants of military vehicles as well. Rebirth is littered with remnants from the war or abandoned construction projects.

Kalm and Midgar are connected by a freeway, but it's largely been abandoned and unmaintained. Cars are no longer used to go between towns and cities, and deliveries appear to be done mostly by airship, which seems crazy wasteful but that's kind of how Shinra's portrayed in the remake games. The reason the chocobo business flourishes so much is because the few travelers that move from town to town primarily use them to get around, as due to poorly maintained, incomplete or the complete lack of roads makes most land vehicles utterly unusable.

Rebirth places a little bit more emphasis on a war that preceded the Wutai War, the war between Shinra and the Republic of Junon. From what I recall, this war was never really alluded to in the original game, the concept only first surfacing after Advent Children.

FF7 was always silly as fuck with serious moments. Costa del Sol was a silly, fun, vacation beach place. Rebirth did an excellent job portraying exactly that.

Is there anything you felt it didn't do well?
>>
>>738807025
I don't think so. He has very little to do with the micromanagement of the game. It's more the FFXIII guy's "scenario" team coming up with really lame B-characters. He also made all the new Wall Market characters like Andrea, the finger-sex lady and the Chocobo Cowboy mobster guy. And it's the FFXV team zoomers who have no idea what to make except things like this, and for the sake of development they have to allow that.

Toriyama talked about how Wall Market in FFVII Remake Part 1 was the most satisfying part to make, because it felt like "how we made the original" because after a long argument with Nomura and Kitase he convinced them they should reimagine the whole section.
>>
>>738820373
>Rebirth did an excellent job portraying exactly that.
no it didn't, dumb zoomer
>>
>>738820167
I think something that a lot of people gloss over in regards to the original game is that, if you think about it, FF7's worldbuilding is a bit incomplete compared to what you'd get in previous titles. If Shinra was originally an electric power company prior to becoming a global dictatorship, then there must have been a nation that the company operated in prior to taking power. These ideas never come up in the original game, even though logically they must have existed.

There is SOME merit to what you are saying but your extreme autism and hyperbole completely undermines your argument.

Cosmo Canyon was somewhat ruined by turning it into a tourist hotspot rather than a genuine spiritual retreat.

Nibelheim is not as eerie anymore now that it's being transparently used as a Shinra-operated medical treatment site rather than being a full on potemkin village.

Everywhere else is the same as before. Most of the reason the original might feel gloomier is simply that the camera is usually pointed down and you rarely see the sky.

I don't think that was intended. There was nothing special about Kalm at all in terms of setting.
