It's under $2 on GoG. What's the truth about how bad it is and how far it strays from the original Deus Ex?
it's peakdon't listen to faggot video essayists and people parroting their opinions
The truth is whatever the popular narrative says it is if you're unwilling to just play it yourself.
>>738808996i remember it being narrow and claustrophobic and every character just t-posed by default.
>>738808996It had controller support and to PCfags, it's a major insult
Is there a mod to merge the tiny maps together? I'm pretty sure there was one for Thief 3 which is on the same engine and has the same issue
>>738808996I was never a Deus Ex guy. Was always more into Thief so i did not bother playing Invisible War.
i liked the story but man the maps and that fucking HUD
>>738808996Just play it, your time is worthless anyway.Don't use any patches.
>>738808996It's a great game but a terrible sequel. If it had just been called Invisible War and not Deus Ex, it would be fondly remembered in the same way as Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. That said, I expect you'll have a lot of trouble getting it to run on a modern PC, it might be easier to emulate the Xbox game.
>>738808996It's a pretty decent game but a downgrade in just about every way compared to the original. At least it's easier to pick up and play since it doesn't have a skill system so you can use guns with pinpoint accuracy from the get go. It's also short, less than half the first game, so just go and play it yourself. If it wasn't called Deus Ex it would be remembered as a hidden gem instead of a shitty sequel.
>>738808996It's Deux Ex fused with an average XBox 360 shooter. It's up to you to decide if that sounds like an appealing combination.
>>738808996It's a shitty corridor shooter console game with horrible wait times every time it loads a hub. Also it's highly cheezable, you can finish the game with just the poison dagger.Actual trash.
>>738810325>That said, I expect you'll have a lot of trouble getting it to run on a modern PCVisible Upgrade fixes compatibility issues and adds widescreen supporthttps://www.ttlg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=147423
>>738809056It's been shit on since before video essayists were a thing (or at least widespread, maybe Spoony was active then).
I played it and beat it, but with a couple of patches that made it so the game doesn't need to crash and reboot in the next zone after every zone change. Also my Alex had glowing eyes because I thought it was cool. It's a decent enough game that TRIES to have the same depth as the original while being way too constrained by the Xbox. Killing JC Denton is cool, I guess, I would never do it.
>>738810671>I would never do it.what a shame
>>738808996I played this and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
>>738810671>JC DentonI hope you like being alone.
>>738808996It's sad that it has no achievements because if it did we would know the real dirty secret where this one is played way more than the first
>>738808996it was developed for xbox first and it REALLY shows. It's not a terrible game but it is a terrible sequel
>>738811478>>738810453>>738810351>>738810345>>738810325>shooter for xbox>good game, bad sequelDrones repeating the exact same thing, this is how you know these faggots just heard this from an essay video on youtube and they are here huffing their own farts
>>738811639oh okay you're right it's actually secretly a masterpiece, thanks for your input
>>738811639The devs went out on record saying the Xbox's memory constraints made the maps smaller, which led to more frequent loading times and more cramped gameplay sections. What's wrong with saying that?
>>738811639Nope, played it on an Xbox back in the day and liked it, I've had the same opinion on the game since before you were born. Great game, much better than most, but Deus Ex was a really tough act to follow and >>738811478 didn't help. I come from a time where the people talking about games online actually played games, I know that must be a foreign idea to you.
It's painfully boring and the level design is horrendous. It's also a buggy slow mess and every time you go through a loading screen it restarts the .exe and it can fuck with the game on modern windows
i absolutely despise the hud in IW, why is there a giant compass on my screen at all times when the maps are all tiny hallways with loading screen doors everywhere
I remember going to some church and there were children there and I shot them with a flame thrower and they actually burned to death.10/10
I already bought it twice! Invisible war is so much fun. I remember heading to liberty island and cheesing the templar boss with the guided rocket launcher.
It's still a good game. It was the first Deus Ex game I played on the original Xbox. I liked it at the time and it was one of my favorite games, I didn't learn about how much people hated it until later, but I still like it. Kino atmosphere
>>738811997Same. Had the crossbow that lit people up, and you could go through the Tarsus Academy and do it while the security girl was yelling at you. Could never happen today. The voices and animations for people being set on fire were just terrific in general. I remember occasionally NPCs would just catch themselves on fire accidentally by standing too close a barrel.
>>738808996Deus Ex was one of the best games of its time with some of the best collection of thruthbombs of its timeInvisible War was like reddit thinking it could do the same thing. game was so lame
>>738808996its an xbox port with same loading times, dumbed down lockpicking and hacking, same nanopowers but less nanopowers than first game, as sequel wise wasnt bad because until last levels they didnt shove characters from first game, the world turning from bleak "cyberpunk" into generic scifi future city with supossedly flying cars but you dont see any ingame
>>738811997the egipt level was better cause you can go literally in a school shooting with kids in 2003 but funny the game was so shit and unpopular no one bat an eye
>>738808996laura bailey voices the protagonist
*crack**sssip*Yep, they don't make 'em like that anymore.
>>738814340Only if you play as a woman. Surely you don't do that.
>>738814827i always thought it was hilarious to play as black woman dentonone time my game bugged out and gave me infinite optical camo
>>738814827Agent Jaycee Denton, in da fresh
>>738808996It wasn't a good game. People make excuses for it because it had the deus ex title so it had a lot to live up to, but if it didn't have that name it would still be no good.A whole bunch of staples of the genre are there but in such a basic or small scale form that it feels like they only did them to tick items on a list. The areas are too small, the augmentation choices are too limited, even the little notes etc. you can find are one or two sentences at most. There's some other flaws like the universal ammo system that means you either have ammo for the optimal weapon for whatever situation you're in or none at all, not being locked to a faction makes it hard for any sense of stake to build, and I seem to remember it being kind of heavy on light bloom. Credit for having dynamic shadows though, being able to see enemies coming without direct line of sight occasionally made stealth more immersive.
I had fun with it, worth it for the janky physics alone.
That moment when you wake up in the dorm and turn the light on and the shadows all move realistically (for the time) was insane on Xbox
>>738814827the male its boring and got a shit haircut
Kino game. I played Deus Ex 1 when it came out and got Invisible War when it launched. It’s not as good as the first game and it does have glaring issues but I’d take 100 Invisible War style game over 1 Cyberpunk 2077 style “rpg”.
>>738808996It's fine, but X-box was the lead platform so you'll have X-box concessions to deal with. Also the opening where a terrorist nearly kills an entire city was the only interesting thing in the game, it wastes that potential.
>>738808996What makes it attractive is that it has the same writer as the first game, so even though it pivots quite a bit from DE1, it's still an exploration of some really good sci fi. Unfortunately it was also headed in a bad direction. Warren Spector revealed that the canned Deus Ex 3 was basically going to reveal that what we call "Magic" in the future is just nanotechnology, and this is why it increasingly looks like they're carrying multitools like magic wands.
>>738809683PCfags never cared about the controller support. What made them angry was the tiny areas thanks to low, console-friendly memory restrictions. It fucks the proportions of everything in the game.
The universal ammo system sucks shit and pretty much ruined the game for me. It was the poster child of consolefication for that generation as pretty much nobody thought it lived up to the original, let alone the PS2 port.
It's pretty good. Not as good as the original but leagues better than the Adam Jenson games.
>>738822995The Jensen games don't feel like you're locked in the bathroom and they have god tier art direction, good combat and stealth, a great protag
>>738824303One of the browner posts here
>>738824303jensen is boring and unmemorable
>>738824350post country & ancestry NOW
>>738824417They make him kind of bland and stoic in the same way JC was so he doesn't override the player's motivations and thoughts too much. But like JC he still has a lot of subtle personality, and his design is great
>>738808996It's objectively terrible compared to the original, but it's still an interesting game. Has a really cool, weird atmosphere. It's worth playing imo
>>738808996Not great but it's better than nu-ex.
>>738808996It's like Deus Ex but dumb down and consolized. I tried playing it but my God it's so terrible compared to the original I can't believe they made it with a straight face and thought the decisions they made were any good.
>>738809056The game is fucking piss easy and more smaller and simplistic compared to the original game and the original game isn't even that deep either
>>738826196>more smallerIt's actually incredible how stupid /v/ is as a whole.
>>738826153Harvey Smith is a weird dude. He makes kino, but also some of the worst games ever made, like Blacksite Area 51
>>738808996Invisible war is the dark souls 2 of the deus ex series. I don't think I've ever played a deus ex game that was bad. But invisible war probably is the weakest of the bunch. It's still a very fun game though in its own right, just like dark souls 2. And just like ds2 it's funner the less you compare it to the other games in the series and enjoy it for what it is.
>>738808996There are people who pretend it's better than Human Revolution because it somewhat plays like the original more. Those people are fudgepackers and like to slurp on cock.
>>738816306It would probably be more liked if it didn't have deus ex in the title. People would enjoy it for what it is, rather than constantly comparing it to the legendary title it was a sequel too.
>>738808996it is a good game ngl. still a downgrade from the original deus ex and that sucks. i wish there were more games like the original deus ex
>>738809056What video essayist said shit about this game? This game was hated long before youtube was popular you retarded zoomer
>>738811639how insightful, negroid
It's evocative of that 2000s period where in return for some new fangled simulation and fidelity you saw massively reduced scope.
>>738826251No more stupid then losers like yourself who pretend to be superior despite still engaging with the retards of this board
I enjoyed it. First hub level was probably the most fun Ive had in the whole series.I wished that the made ports for newer consoles.
>>738808996its a mid/small scope game but it feels like a deus ex game (also stealthing is almost impossible) . HR and mankind divided in the other hand are dogshit deus ex games and dogshit games in general
IW is good.HR is bad.I am transgender by the way.
>>738808996From a technical standpoint, it ran like New Vegas did back in the day. That's mostly resolved at this point thanks to mods and shit. Unlike New Vegas, the writing and quest/location designs aren't strong enough to cover its buggy ass. It had a short development cycle (standard for all Eidos-published games back in the day) and it needed to run on the Xbox because Eidos wanted concurrent console ports for every game, so it got the Thief Deadly Shadows treatment and had all of its levels chopped up and trimmed down on both versions to meet parity.
>>738808996I remember playing roughly two hours of it after just having finished a DE run and I had to stop because it just wasn't fun. The sheer amount of loading screens were driving me insane, it was like every five steps.
