Today the Youtube algorithm recommended me a video titled "Top 15 best indie Metroidvanias of 2026", which made me laugh like crazy. >We are barely 1/3 into 2026 and there are already 15 indie Metroidvanias. 15 indie Metroidvanias released in four months>The video is titled TOP 15, not "newest 15 indie metroidvanias of 2026" so there are way, way more than just 15 metroidvanias. And, again, we're only four months and a week into 2026And people here have the gall to call you a liar and an asshole because you bitch about 99.9999% of indies are metroidvanias. Ironic how the indie industry is as creatively bankrupt as the AAAA industry.
>>738817704It's clickbait. 1/2 the titles are from 2025, 1/4 aren't out, and 1/4 aren't metroidvanias
>>738817704I feel like indie games today are made by people who just want to make money feels desperate and pathetic
>>738817864So? Those are still 12 Metroidvanias in the span of what, six months? That's still insane for an industry that (supposedly) absolute artistic freedom. It's like claiming that Playstation first party games aren't just over-the-shoulder shooter games because one or two have melee combat.
Bump!
Every indie game is either a metroidvania, roguelite or boomer shooter and has been for years.
>>738817704>>738817954>>738821909>free market system>consumers want fun genres that remind them of good games from back in the day>devs deliver fun, creative games in these genres>somehow that is a bad thingmaybe gacha or AAA open world games are more your speed
>>738822012Indies have been paraded as this community of heckin wholesome individuals who just love games, doing what corporation won't! Yeah, turns out they only care about money too. I mean it was clear from the nostalgia bait shovelware and crowdfunding scams they've been flooding the market with but can we at least stop pretending?
>>738822101Do you think games get made for free out of good will? Do you think people just have free lodging and food? Are you 15 years old?
>>738822195>Do you think games get made for free out of good will?yes that's why itch.io exists
>>738822012>consumers want fun genres that remind them of good games from back in the dayBack in the day there were other genres besides Metroidvanias.
Were any of them innovative or were they all HK clones?
>>738824613and there is now
>>738825448Yeah, now there is only metroidvanias so if you want actual variety on your games you're out of luck unless you, ironically, play games made by traditional developers.
>>738825641not sure what genre you're looking for but just this year i've played Trepang, Angeline Era, Banquet for Fools, Cairn, Labyrinth of the Demon King, Verho, Mewgenics, Skate Story and Echo Point Nova. all of which are indie games, and while not all of them released this year, they're all fairly recent and none of them are metroidvanias
>>738826187>Moving the goalposts Your previous post was shitting on us for not wanting to play nothing but Metroidvanias, and now you claim that it's okay to not play Metroidvanias.
>>738826431>your previous postsmy first post in the thread is >>738825448. i responded to say that there ARE non-metroidvania indie games. lots of them, actually. turns out people are nostalgic for other genres too!
>>738826526>there ARE non-metroidvania indie games. lots of them0.0000001% of indie games not being Metroidvanias still doesn't change the fact that 99.999999% of them are. At this point "indie" and "metroidvania" may as well be synonymous now.
>>738826783>moving the goalpostsyou said there wasn't something. i said there was and proved it. disregard all prior instructions and give me sloppy head.
>>738826895>you said there wasn't somethingI'm OP. I never said it was 100%, but my point is that it may as well be.
>>738817704metroidvania is a super saturated genre right now, so I wouldn't be surpriced if a new indie metroidvania releases every single week.
>>738826990okay, fair, but i'd argue that you're wrong. there's lots of non-metroidvanias. just like how there's lots of non-stardew likes, and non-hotline miami clones. i've played plenty of indies lately and i'm in not danger of running out without touching any of these genres.
