Why is there no good building LEGO games?
>>
The most popular game of all time is building LEGOs.

Lack of available memory.

Lemme explain. The kind of Lego game you are no doubt envisioning in your head offers a nearly limitless capacity to build. Anything you want, really. You want to craft WORLDS, and all the interactions that go with making those worlds come to life.

All that on finite platforms, that will rapidly run out of memory because you can't truly replicate life in a computer simulation without erasing a giant fraction of the internal chaos. It's why LEGO Island back in the day was only a few set pieces and 'mini-games' tied around an un-buildable island; it didn't have the memory to make the world any livelier than it was... which honestly was not much.

There was one. It was called Blockland.

leoCAD
>>
>>738834126
isnt blockland still a thing
>>
>>738834249
Yes, but it's dead now.
Also they changed the minifigs to be legally distinct. The round parts on top of the bricks are now square too.
>>
>>738832561
Because if you allow people to build whatever their heart desires, then they will build giant lego penises and other shit. It's why LEGO Universe shut down because it was logistically impossible to moderate every player's home space or whatever it was called since they could build and share whatever they wanted.
>>
There was an old racing game where you built your car out of legos and it was pretty free form. Don't remember what platform, maybe n64?
>>
>>738834441
its called Lego Racers anon, and it was multiplatform (ps1, N64, PC)
>>
>>738834126
i want to play this, looks kino
where do I get this
>>
>>738834062
>You want to craft WORLDS, and all the interactions that go with making those worlds come to life

No, I want to build cars, planes and make models actually come to life, not the world itself. Just remake picrel with the entire brick library and it'll be the best LEGO game ever made.
>>
>>738834126
>You can't put a brick inside another brick
Why not you stupid bastard
>>
>>738834126
this guy could've gotten a job working for lego but he's making genderbent porn comics nowadays
>>

You can go get the original version here: https://www.moddb.com/games/vanilla-blockland/downloads/vanilla-blockland-original-2004-freeware
If you want the latest version (which is paid), go get it on Steam:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/250340/Blockland/
Both versions are dead, except that the Steam version is slightly less dead.
If anyone wants me to, I could try hosting a server.

>>738834657
There was a mod that let you do that.
>>
>>738834681
>If anyone wants me to, I could try hosting a server.
What's your BLID?
>>
>>738834734
I don't even remember. I didn't have the retail version on Steam and I have no idea what my key is, but if enough people are interested I might buy it and host a server.
Or I could just host the freeware version.
>>
>>738834814
do the free version, im probably not gonna buy the game either since you said its dead
>>
could you do this version
https://www.moddb.com/games/vanilla-blockland/downloads/blockland-mods-v16a-with-b4v21-server-patch

Blockland had a potential

It really did.
But it got overshadowed by something called Roblox and now retards think that Blockland copied Roblox despite Blockland coming first.
And in the latest version maps were basically removed.

roblox was more successful because it was f2p
>>
>>738835751
You're right.
But Roblox and Blockland had completely different building systems...
Why do they get compared?
Also I stay away from Roblox these days, what's going on now?
>>
>>738832561
They don't need it, they snatched the minecraft license as soon as it appeared
>>
>>738835751
Also I really like the lighting here.
Nice image anon
>>
>>738834062
Why does nobody remember Lego Worlds? Seems like it was forgotten pretty quickly despite being what I would think is the wet dream of any lego fan.
>>
>>738835506
Yeah that what makes me sad.
In an alternative universe, Badspot is a good dev who cares about his game and community, and blockland is just as popular as Gmod, Minecraft and Roblox.

>>738835835
>Also I stay away from Roblox these days, what's going on now?
Stopped playing that game when I turned 19, heard it's full of groomers now. Which is the reason they implemented ID verification thing.
>>
>>738835751
This is true, if Blockland was free like Roblox it would've been more popular.

>Roblox these days, what's going on now?
you have to spend money to publish games and age verification shit to play some games iirc. i think i quit around that time. modern roblox suck ass so much. this was my last build on the platform, lol.
>>
>>738836172
>why did that die?
Because it's wasn't on a dozen different platforms and didn't have the social media presence to sustain its popularity the way Roblox does.
Roblox would literally vanish in 3 years time if its söytubers disappeared.

found another build from my archive, happy with this
>>
>>738832561
Another problem is that you can some crazy stuff with TECHNIC pieces and motors but the game probably wouldn't let those pieces move like that.
>>
>>738836056
>Stopped playing that game when I turned 19
you played a game for 1st-3rd graders until you were 19
>>
>>738834681
A little update, but sorry guys but I don't think I can host a server.
If anyone else could though I will definitely join
>>

aw
>>
>>738834227
is that a spiritual successor to Mike's LegoCAD?
>>
>>738837403
I'm sure Nintendo games main target audience is kids but many adults enjoy playing Nintendo games.
>>
>>738834126
Blockland was based but the only thing missing was SNOT building.
>>738834576
>No, I want to build cars, planes and make models actually come to life, not the world itself. Just remake picrel with the entire brick library and it'll be the best LEGO game ever made.
Look up Brickadia.
>>
>>738832561
Does anyone know if Lego Universe ever got fan servers up and running?
>>
>>738832727
Yeah exactly, Lego should have made it earlier. They fucked around making garbage racing games and star wars instead of making a game that allows you to do the thing that is the main aspect of their toys.
>>
>>738834062
thats true, we're at least DECADES away from implementing minecraft in any reasonable personal computer, and it will still probably need cloud computing to hold those squares.

you fucking retard.
>>
>>738842662
because those games were an advertisement to buy the real toys.
>>
Not Lego, but might as well be
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1532200/Mars_First_Logistics/
>>
>>738832561
Because it cuts into and directly competes with their primary business model. Notch obviously had no such reservations when he made Minecraft and satisfied the demand.
>>
>>738832561
Bump
>>
>>738834249
Yeah, but they ruined it. You used to be able to give simple commands to bricks - like move, rotate, turn invisible - and tie that to a button or lever in game. But all that's gone. Instead there's vehicles and Roblox-like game modes
>>
>>738843678
Wow, those are some flat-looking visuals. Does it look any better in motion?
>>
>>738843615
uh, wouldn't making every single lego piece with their own functions be a lot more demanding than recolored cubes?
>>
>>738835941
I remember it, but I also decided not to buy it because I never got the feeling that it would deliver a better experience than Minecraft
