is it better for your gpu fans to stop and start as needed or always be on

I changed my mobo and now my GPU only turns the fans on as necessary, it feels weird but it seems fine, debating if i should get a utility to manage it

It's harmless if they're consistently off when doing light tasks like internet browsing and consistently on when doing something demanding like running a game. You just don't want it constantly stop-starting with wild temperature curves.

it seems like its mostly like that, I checked it out during a game and while it did turn off at times (in menus) temperature never went above 50c

they idle by default for everything until hitting 50-60c not because its useful but to "save power" like a 3v fan really matters on a 350w gpu

short cycling is bad for motors. they should either run very hard for short periods or be on at low loads constantly

Only if they remain off when looking at Youtube videos.

yeah they dont come on for that, or for lower spec stuff like stardew valley or touhous or anything
